Brake Squeal

Anyone else have squeaky brakes? Seems to happen when the car sits either overnight, or being parked for a couple of hours. It goes away after applying moderate brake pressure after driving a bit, so I assume it’s to remove any residue that might have built on the rotors.

i thought I heard this after parking all day in a garage. Have been especially attentive the past few days, but have yet to hear it a second time.

i agree that it is almost like the things got wet and it is being dried off.

I heard it a few times, but I couldn't find any patterns when it happens.

Not heard anything like that at all, and it's not unusual for mine to sometimes sit for up to a couple of days without being driven.

Yes, it happened to me after a car wash and went away after some driving.

Update to my post on 9/3: I've had mine for 2 months now and in the last week to 10 days I've been hearing intermittent noise varying from a light squeal to a grinding or growling sound but only when applying fairly firm pedal pressure. It hasn't been consistent enough to play around with to get a better feel for when it does happen. It's happened first thing in the morning after sitting all night as well as after 200+ miles of freeway driving and then pulling into a rest area.

I noticed this when driving my wife's car after washing it last weekend. With light pressure there was no noise, but if you apply mid to aggressive brake pressure there was an almost rough grinding noise. It did seem to go away, and was not constant so I told her to keep her ears open but don't expect she will pay much attention. It was more pronounced than what I would have expected from a light surface rust due to water sitting on the rotor.

I have reported this issue to my dealer. They have replaced the brakes and rotors, but as I was told squeal may be back and Acura is aware of this and looking into the solution to fix it as I am not the only one.

I had a 2016 ILX previous to my new RDX. They had a service bulletin on the brakes early on. Around 5-6k miles the brakes would just start squealing. Not sure what the reason was, but nice to have brand new brakes right away haha. Here was the service bulletin: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...99943-9340.pdf Maybe the same thing will happen in this case?

I had the same issue in my second generation RDX and the dealer replaced the disks and brake pads under warranty. I agree that this is not a huge deal and not a safety concern anyway.

My wife is experiencing this and is going to take it in to get it on record. Brakes are nice and hot...no water...no rust but at times will squeal and others grind but its all noise...brakes feel and work great. Looking forward to a fix.

Acura engineers are coming to my dealer to try to figure squeak out. Heard there have been alot of complaints re this. Most are coming from cars in Cal. Mine is Ohio

I've owned 3 RDXs. One first gen, and two second gen. I pick up my new gen 3 on Saturday. I've never had one that didn't have squeaky brakes. Acura always seems to fix it, and it's really the only issue I've had with these cars.

I was getting my winter tires put on my TLX this morning, and while waiting, I was chatting with my sales guy, and he asked if I wanted to test drive the RDX. Of course, I accepted the offer, so he went to get the tester while I waited outside as he brought the vehicle to the front. He backed up the vehicle into a stall and holy smokes, those brakes squealed quite loudly. Seems to be affecting a lot of RDXs so wouldn't be surprised if Acura came around to fixing it one day.

On the wife's 19 I notice it is horrible grinding squeal for several stops after the car has been washed, not sure why moisture is really causing it it very badly compared to other cars I have had.

On my 3-week-old RDX A-Spec the brakes squeal for first 3-4 stops after the car is started. After that it goes away. I'm in Toronto. The weather has been 5 to 10 degrees C. It sounds like the brakes are damp.

Same issue with the ILX, Honda/Acura changed the part number of the rotors to fix the issue. Meaning they went with cheap rotors.

I just started hearing a brake squeal this week, around 2,500 miles and 2 months old now. Had 2017 and at 1,200 miles has rotors replaced for same issue. Was hoping it didn’t happen on 3rd gen but looking like I may have same issue.

Of course it will be an easy fix...they will either replace the rotors, the pads or both. Nothing more it can be.

My wife called me on her way home from work to complain about this...said eventually it went away.

I had a similar issue with my Audi S4 when the weather started hitting the 40's, like it is now...replaced the stock pads with Akebono brake pads and the problem went away. My guess would be an inferior pad on these cars too.

I was hoping it would be the pads. A good excuse to get a better set of brake pads + SS brake lines.

I'm also curious if the BBK setup on the Type R would fit on our RDX.
