BMW announced the BMW X2 M35i will have a 306 hp/332 lb-ft torque turbo 4 cylinder. What are the chances we get a RDX Type R next year to compete?

Not sure about a Type R haha, but I can see a Type S. But if it does come out, I think it will have a 3.0T V6 instead of a higher tuned version of the 2.0T.

Also, X2 is more like a X1 coupe, it's way smaller than the RDX.

I'm not so sure it has to become a horsepower "race" or "I'll match whatever you do" issue for these SUV's. Once you get to a really "decent HP and torque amount" like the RDX....and it has so much else going for it,
there is really no need for "more."

The RDX has more room, plenty of power, lots of high end goodies, etc, etc....and it cost much less....and it will give you more value for the money than the BMW.

I see the Type S V6 coming with a turbo to push that engine well over 300 HP....but, will show up in the TLX. I doubt very much you'll see that engine in the RDX. IF Acura decides the market is really calling for more power in
the RDX....then the Civic Type R engine will most likely be it. The current engine is that engine anyway...just "toned down" a little.

Type S? Maybe.
Hybrid with a little more power? Most likely.

At the end of the day Acura doesn't have the market reach like BMW and Audi and Mercedes so it can't make too many versions of each model like the Germans can. Hell at one point the Q5 offered 5 different powertrains in north america alone! (2.0T, Hybrid, Diesel, 3.0T, and 3.0T with different supercharger and tune).

There are two possibilities:
1. Type S with 3.0T 300 HP
2. Hybrid (just like MDX) with another 25-34 HP, which will bring RDX to 300 HP.

The 3.0 V6T will come with TLX first for sure and not RDX.

The possibilities certainly exist. It all depends on consumer sentiments. Most of the EU competitors in this segment have the upgraded engine trims, even Volvo! (who would have thought?)

I think RDX will most likely follow the MDX's path and receive a hybrid before having a v6 type S variant. It was wise for Acura not to launch these variations with a new model/factory. It also gives us something to be excited about for coming years.

It seems Acura tends to follow a HP and luxury/tech feature hierarchy with their models. The RDX will probably not get anything close to the Type-R 2.0T 306hp until the 4th gen MDX standard HP is +310hp. It will be the same for the future of 3rd Gen RDX hybrid and it will always have less HP/TQ than the MDX sh-sh-awd.

I think the best we can hope for is good vehicle frame, over-engineered engine/AT/sh-awd powertrain, ability to upgrade hardware/ECU, and getting back some kick-A$$ aftermarket support to make our own Type-S and Type-R. Hondata already has Accord reflash for Stage 1 or Stage 2 that provides a mid-range punch of 25-55hp/40-80tq above the Accord 252hp/273tq 2.0T engine without I/H/E: https://www.motortrend.com/news/get-...a-accord-2-0t/

Type R, seriously? Why would they implement the Type R on a crossover? Type S, most likely but I'm doubtful it will be released next year. Talked to a buddy who works at Acura corporate, most likely we'll see a Type S in 3 years for the RDX. The TL will be the first vehicle to get the Type S.

No matter if Acura proceeds with Type S or Hybrid. It won't happen in the next 12 months.

I am sure Acura will wait a bit before releasing anything new. Right now Acura is enjoying the sales of the new RDX in Canada and US. The car is very well received in both markets. Acura did a patch job for MDX and ILX to postpone the redesigned models for another 24 months.. Now their next big release will be the new TLX...most likely 2020 TLX (in 2019) with more HP and mostly likely a V6 turbo engine.
