Any who installed roof rails and racks/cross/bars.

I remember reading about a vehicle a couple types, maybe my Land Rover model was one, where people had added the roof rails/cross rails and by doing so, introduced a fair bit of wind noise the owners felt was quite annoying. I have never had cross rails and was considering it. Has anyone who has installed these noticed the wind noise from doing so? overly loud or annoying in the cabin?

Any set of crossbars has the potential to create wind noise. It's dependent on the air flow around the vehicle combined with the air flow around the rails/crossbars. It can even be affected by wind direction and speed so there's really no way to predict beforehand exactly how a particular setup will behave.

Typically you’d take the cross bars off unless you had a load up there tied down. Are the RDX’s movable, sliding up and down the rails when loosened, and completely made to easily remove when not in use like other SUVs I’ve seen? You wouldn’t want to obstruct that beautiful panoramic view now would you? The rails (parallel front to back) are obviously permanent.

When you install the cross bars, the front has two positions you could install them at, one was supposed have less wind noise as the cross bars would be closer together, or at the second position where it would be further apart but create more wind noise. I have them placed where it’s further apart but the wind noise wasn’t that loud to me...although I always have my music on.

Correct, two possible positions for the front crossbar. But noise level is related to the position of the front crossbar relative to the windshield. Positioned closer to the windshield, it gets more of the updraft and hence more noise. But that position also gives greater crossbar spread for more flexibility in positioning long accessories such as ski boxes. The rear crossbar position is fixed.

The crossbars are relatively easy to take off and store when they aren't in use. My audio is NOT always on.

I have the roof rack and cross bars. You get a bit more wind noise, but nothing that isn't tolerable. You really only hear it if your pano sunroof shade is retracted, otherwise the car is relatively quiet.

I just got my new 2019 RDX A-Spec last month with dealer installed roof racks. The passenger side roof racks whistle when I get over 35 mph. My car is currently at the dealership to have this whistling address. I hope they don't charge me for this service.

Maybe the covers at the ends of the crossbars weren't installed properly.

Can you easily install the factory roof rails yourself? I want to see if Thule will make a crossbar, I have been using Thule for years but they don't have a model that fits 2019 RDX yet.

I had the dealer install roof rails on my RDX, but soon afterward I DIY installed them on our 2014 MDX. In retrospect, that was harder than the RDX install because you have to cut down the roof trim on the MDX. From the instructions, the RDX install looks pretty easy if you have the tools and basic skills.

Cross-bar install is easy. Thule makes the kit. I thought I would be able to use the cross-bar kit on the MDX if I wanted to, but no go. I got a Thule aftermarket kit for the MDX.

So now I have two cross-bar kits sitting in my basement "just-in-case". This is a feature of down-sizing my primary vehicle.

The roof rails were real simple to install. It took max 10 mins per side because I was taking my time not to scratch the paint.

I’ve been talking to Thule and they seem optimistic they will have certified a new footprint soon. We’ll see I guess
