3G RDX Rear Hatch glass explosion
This morning I was 10 feet down my driveway when this happened. Complete shattering of the rear hatch glass. I thought ice was sliding off my roof. I have an appointment this Thursday with my dealer. The outside temperature was -16C, about 3F. Incidentally the rear hatch glass is about 4mm thick. Has anyone else had this happen to the rear glass? I’ve read subscribers mentioning this with the roof glass.

It’s happened to a handful of people here. I’m sure plenty others who aren’t members here. I’m sure there’s a batch that weren’t cured properly or something like that that are compromised. Then again, Honda hasn’t had the best record when it comes to the glass they use.

Assuming this wasn't in a garage prior to going down the driveway. A lot less flex in the glass and tailgate at 3F than at warmer temps. Likely a dip in the driveway or torque caused when rear axle is in the street and front axle still in driveway. I'm not sure if 10 feet gets you to the street and absolutely not making excuses or condoning this happing.
We had a sunroof replaced that displayed cracks that ran from corner to corner, but fortunately didn't explode.

My question now is, what about everyone that has a defective rear defroster that if you use it, it will eventually cause it to shatter, no fix for that? It just a ticking time bomb waiting to happen, and our warranties are limited.
