2019 RDX - Spare Tire ?

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...4ddb6f1fb6.png
did anyone happen to see if the 2019 RDX at the Auto Show comes with a spare ?
This screenshot makes me wonder .

Spart Tire

I have been wondering the same, esp. since I have an A-Spec on order. I currently have a 17 RDX and an '18 TLX A-Spec. The TLX has 19" wheel and tire for the A-Spec, and like in many cars today, it comes with the
air pump and sealant "machine!" I special ordered the Spare Tire Kit....doughnut tire...for it and that put in the place of the "machine." LOL. Now, my thoughts are that since Acura went with a 20" wheel and tire set up...
which I wish they hadn't and stayed with 19's.....it will come with the air pump/sealant machine....and I'm guessing that there will not be a Spare Tire Kit available for the 20" er!! Which does tick me off. I'd much rather
have the spare "doughnut tire" than the sealant/air pump. Most would it seems. The Mustangs come with the sealant/air pump, but, the Spare Tire Kit is an option...$400 one at that!! For 18" and 19" ers.
If you have a flat that is not repairable with the sealant/ air pump, then you can easily be stuck out in the "boondocks" if that is where your flat happens.....and it could....and I don't like that possibility...esp. if it happens to
my wife. BMW for years had run flats....but, has now gone back to "std. tires" due to the repair issue that run flats cause. Same with Infinity vehicles...running "run flats" and I almost bought a Q60....and I was going to take
those off and put on std. type tires. I've heard other folks doing the same. So, we wait and see. Again, I just don't think there will be spare tires/kits for those 20 inchers. And with the new "storage area" under the rear deck,
I don't know where they'd put a spare of any kind....other than hanging underneath...and I don't see that happening. As much as I like the A-Spec, I discussed with my wife the idea of getting a non A-Spec RDX....but, she
wants the red interior and that is only available in the A-Spec version. As far as I know. It's true with the TLX A-Spec. Red leather only in that version.

Check out post #849 in this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...961500/page22/

A member took a picture of the dual exhaust set-up from the prototype and it had a spare tire between the mufflers. The prototype was missing the heat shielding protecting the spare; but, we figured it would be added on the production model. I'm just guessing if the RDX tires will have the same circumference because of sh-awd in the 18", 19", or 20" tire sizes. The A-Spec might be a little wider and a donut or full size spare might fit in the same spot. All current sh-awd MDXs come with a spare and maybe the sh-awd RDXs will also. I added a full-size spare to my 11 MDX and it just hangs down a few inches lower compared to donut it replaced.

The A-Spec will come with 255/45/20 tires. Lot of tire to put underneath. The screen shot of the underside at the auto show just might be the std. 19" wheel/tire RDX's. Just one more thing to add to the list of...."I wonder if?"

I bought a new 2019 Acura RDX with Technology Package five months ago. No spare, just the air pump/sealant machine. Three days after I drove it off the lot, I got a large nail in the inner sidewall. Fortunately, I was able to make it to the dealership before the tire lost too much air pressure. They didn't have the tire in stock, but they gave me a loaner while they waited. Which was fine, but in a couple of weeks, I'll be taking a long road trip. The potential of being stranded without a spare makes me very uncomfortable, so I'll be looking buying into a spare tire kit.

Acura roadside assistance should have a donut on their vehicles but I don't know if that's the case. At least the owner can get on their way without the need to leave the car on the side of the road.

you are not the only one, most BMW owner have the same problem, no spare tire..:wish:

REALM 06-13-2019 01:40 PM

My understanding is SH-AWD has a spare, the 2WD just gets the sealant kit.
Mine has a spare and I already had to use it when I totally blew a tire. I don't even like having a donut only spare as usually always carry a full-size spare in past vehicles. To think of driving with no spare at all just completely boggles my mind.

pcmcia 06-13-2019 02:48 PM

Any idea whether you can fit a full size spare under there?

Couple years ago, I was on a road trip out of country in some rural area and had a flat tire due to side wall damage. The tire cannot be repaired. Luckily, my RAV4 had a full size spare. I was able to drive home and put the damaged tire in the spare holder. My car was packed full.

If possible, I want a full size spare for piece of mind.

KeithL 06-22-2019 02:09 PM

ThenAdvance has a spare underneath I believe all other models it has to be purchased.

I have the advance pkg. However, the spare is still a donut. The spare tire has the same diameter but only half the width of the regular tire. This means you can only drive up to 50mph (ie. No highway speeds) and up only I think 200 miles.

Like I said, I had an incident where I was out of country ( in Canada ) in a rural area. I was more than 5 hours from home by car. I had side wall damage on one of my tires and it was not repairable. It was impossible to find the same size/model tire for my car. Luckily, the RAV4 had a full size spare. I was able to drive home and order the a new tire from my local Costco, which still took a day.

If my car had a donut, I don't know what I would do.

KeithL 06-23-2019 06:39 PM

correct it is s donut, the lower models do not come with a spare as it is a dealer installed option.

Wander 06-23-2019 08:40 PM

IIRC SH-AWD comes with the compact spare, in all trim levels except A-spec.

EFR 06-23-2019 08:59 PM

Cuz A-Spec people don't need no stinking spares...we just drive on the rims. But seriously, really, no spare? I bought the spare package anyway. That no spare has become kind of a thing amongst however many manufacturers...why?

Unless something changed for 2020, the 2019s only came with a spare (donut) in the Advance trim, regardless of whether you got FWD or SH-AWD. All other trims come with the repair kit only. And as far as I know, you cannot put a full size tire where the donut goes. The manual even tells you to just throw it in the back.

I had a flat last week and that's what I did. I went straight to a shop anyway where the guy was able to plug the tire from the outside and mount it back on the car.

Well, mine is a 2019 Advance SH-AWD, so maybe I'm mistaken about other trims.

You're right that a full-size wheel can't go on the hoist. The hoist end won't fit through the center hole in the thick aluminum wheel, no matter how hard you try...

But the manual says to put the removed full-size wheel in the plastic bag they supply, poke a hole in the bag, feed the supplied strap through the bag enclosed wheel, and strap it to the anchor points in the cargo area.

It's a pity the infotainment system designers weren't this fastidious.

The press release had a number of inaccuracies, albeit minor. The latest brochure I saw when I was shopping in February said Advance package only.

Fortunately, this is an RDX forum. To clear this up, all we need is for some Standard, Tech and A-Spec owners with SH-AWD to chime in and say what they got.

desmedt 06-26-2019 11:13 AM

Bought mine new from the dealer's lot. Came with a donut T155/90D17, for 'Temporary Use Only, Max 60PSI'
No max driven distance shaown.

No spare on American A-spec AWD but I believe Canadians do get the spare. I added the spare tire kit and put the inflator in the bin to the left. If I can plug the hole (plugs purchased at parts store) on the 20" tire I will. If not, I'll use my spare.

NooYawkuh 06-26-2019 11:30 AM

Well, that makes it about as clear as mud.

Pretty sure all SH-AWD RDXs come with the spare not just the Advanced. Minus the A-SPEC SH-AWD

019 RDX Spare Tire

After learning it came with no spare tire I added it to the contract. It took 3 days for one to get shipped to the dealer and they installed it before I drove off the lot.

REALM 07-23-2019 08:12 AM

I have a base SH-AWD, and mine indeed has a spare tire. I had to use it for a flat already, so can 100% say it’s there... and worked. :)

Totalpkg 06-05-2020 01:04 PM

All Canadian Aspec RDX come with a spare tire.
