19' RDX Steering Wheel Maintenance
Hi, everyone. I'm new to Acura and recently purchased a 2019 RDX. I'm curious what everyone is doing to maintain their steering wheels. It seems a bit "dry" so i don't want to get it too greasy but also don't want it to crack. Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks,

always start with least aggressive treatment...damp rag to wipe away debris...but wait, if there is debris on steering wheel, it must come from your hands! wash hands first.
use damp rag to clean wheel. if you need to further clean, use a soft soap and water...least aggressive treatment always.
however; if you're not doing any extreme work where your hands get dirty, probably dont ever need to step up to a aggressive treatment of steeting wheel....wipe down occasionally with damp rag.

1. Use driving gloves!
2. Occasionally clean the steering wheel with Lexol cleaner (NOT conditioner) or other mild detergent.
3. Buy a new steering wheel for about $350 or trade the vehicle when the steering wheel get too slick and shiny after a few years or tens of thousands of miles.
4. Don't use hand lotion (the oils will make the material slick and shiny even more quickly).
5. Don't use hand sanitizer (the alcohol will dry out the material).
6. Don't sweat (the salts will dry and discolor the material).
7. NEVER use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (or any other abrasive material) as shown on some online videos to remove the gloss and restore the matte finish. It may work a few times, but you're sanding off the protective layer and will actually accelerate future wear).
Having had leather steering wheels on dozens of vehicles over the last 20 years, I've learned that they will all become slick and shiny and look well-used no matter how careful you are.
Keep in mind the actual leather used on the steering wheel (and seats) is never seen or touched because it is dyed for a consistent color and coated with synthetic materials for resistance to wear.
