Majofo wins You've got to understand that the organizers of the meet are from out of town and not so familiar with the area so we might now know the hip spots/places to stay. I like your idea though. Perhaps we could have more Austin people chime in?

I've lived many places.. traveled to many locales.. Austin is definitely one of my favs.. I know most of you guys have probably come through before, I know Justn has , but I want to make sure it's a fun experience for all.
Oasis is an awesome place.. I always bring out-of-towners there. Food sucks.. it's overpriced.. but the view.. you can't beat it. Plus the huge parking garage.. and the area for a cruise.. fantastic.
It's about even distance from downtown or up north.. although the ride up 2222 is a lot more fun than 360 if you stay downtown.

The Holiday Inn is not far from The Domain area. That's why I chose it. It's close by without paying for the domain ambience. I personally dont recommend that La Quinta. I had my car vandalized there 2 years ago. And the Extened Stay hotel, those type of longterm stay places have the highest rate for automotive break in's (per USAA insurance lol). So as of right now, Im still down for Holiday Inn. It's less than $100, very nice looking, has a bar and its just a short drive away to the nice bars recommended by Majofo.

It seems that I'm the only one here so I'll give my again... Where the hell is Taper, isn't he regional coordinator for Austin?
It seems you guys are really set on staying up North. If that's the case, I suggest staying in the Domain area. Aloft has reasonable rates.. there's also a Westin there. Lots of open and covered parking as well. Terrific place to get some cool shots. Plus the Domain has fantastic restaurants and a sweet sports bar that's open til 2AM, downstairs Aloft.
If the price at Aloft or Westin is too pricey (~$140), there is a La Quinta about 300 yards from the Domain and an Extended Stay less than a mile straight shot that are < $100.
Also, closer to Weirdos. It's this cool bar wedged adjacent from mopac (1) and Parmer. Beach Volleyball, bar, ribs, it's a fucking party every weekend there. I've seen 3 full size chartered buses there.. You guys might enjoy it.. and around the corner from there is Cool River, a good restaurant that turns into a hip bar lounge. Crowd is late 20's early 40's.. Plenty Cougars so someone invite Doctor Cougar.
Alternatively, if you stay in the Arboretum area, I would actually stay central to S. Arboretum like Renaissance. There is a Z Tejas there.. Cheescake factory.. not much else though but far better than Holiday Inn.
I just feel like this meet is going to be super lame if you all stay at a commercial Holiday Inn that most Austin residents aren't familiar with. I mean, when a recruiter brings in a candidate, they put them up downtown or at the Domain to show them how cool Austin is.. not Holiday Inn to hang out at the hotel bar.
Anyways.. back to whorin'

as for all of the hotel discussion, I've stayed out of it for the sake I will have no part in any of the evening activities (2 little kids), but if I can help I'm happy to. Most all of you have been to Austin so I didn't feel the need to play tour guide and the places recommended were all fine, no ghetto warnings needed LOL. All that aside, I think everything you said is spot on.
if you're going for downtown, might as well stay at The Driskill, an Austin landmark hotel, supposedly haunted and in the heart of downtown so no drunk driving necessary. For those not planning to go downtown, anywhere in the Domain, Arboretum, 2222 or Lakeway area is fine and will leave you a fun drive away from the hotel to meet location @ The Oasis. Key roads for those coming in include 2222, Hwy 360 (Capital of TX Hwy), Lime Creek (Meet route) and for those with time to kill or in the area, the drive on 1431, from 183 to Marble Falls, is an excellent highway twisty with elevation and not too far away.
My days of 6th/4th St and bar hopping are behind me, so I'll let you be the Chapter Leader when it comes to the debauchery and fun side of the evening activities

Ah.. I figured I'd bring you out of hibernation and into the discussion..
I've always wanted to rent the presidential suite at the Driskill.. too much money. Although I hear many politicians have stayed there.. no wonder we're in debt.
No way will I lead a group of drunks downtown. I can't even lead myself.

30, 40 more isn't all that much. Less than the real nice places downtown (reg room at drisk is +250). If you want to stay at a real cheap place, there's an ext stay tucked away near burnet and 183, around $60. I stayed there for about a week. It was clean, nice. It's not highly rated, nor was it then, but I had no problems there. For 20 more you can stay at embassy suites in Arboretum.. we're talking big rooms, omelettes in the morning.. bar downstairs. You're getting way more for you money and better convenience / location.
Never stayed at La Q or Extended Stay at those locations, but in general, I've never had a problem staying at their properties. It's not a bad area, so I'm surprised you were vandalized there. La Q gives you free waffles in the morning and is dog friendly, that's a win in my book.

Can we please finalize this hotel. The one that was going to split the hotel with me backed out, so I will have to get one solo now. :/ Going to be a pricey meet.

Champ, I thought you were getting a deal on the Holiday Inn? As stated before I booked a room at a Comfort Suites off I35 since I didn't want to wait last minute and end up paying more for a room. I can cancel my reservation if we all decide to stay at one location. I called a few locations but either our group isn't large enough for any real discount or they wanted a card on file immediately.

Oasis(Lake Travis)/Coffee&Cars(Leander)/6th Street(Downtown)... Gateway, Austin, TX is pretty central to all of that. The area is very nice and conveniently right off of 183. Address for reference: 8901 Business Park Drive Austin, TX 78759
I found a Holiday Inn that is super nice. It has a bar! http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/us/...s-_-hi-_-ausnw

I no longer will be staying at a hotel. I'm going to be staying at my friends place in North Austin. I'm still down to hang out Saturday night at a bar or maybe even 6th street if I don't have to drive.

I don't recommend staying in any hotel off the N35 corridor from 2222/290 to town. Those hotels usually get the most traffic, so will be the dirtiest and most dilapidated. I stayed in two hotels in that area when I first moved to Austin. It didn't take me long to recognize that the ratings were for the proximity and access to downtown, not the room quality.
If you guys are going to share a room I recommend Embassy Suites in Arboretum. It will fit 2 people comfortably and is still in the north Arboretum area. The living room (pull-out couch) is separated from the bedroom, and I think you can book two queen size beds. It's around $120.
If you want a really cheap room, that homestead / extended suites just north of 183 and Burnet is $60. The rooms were nice and clean when I stayed there. That was years ago but the rating hasn't changed much from when I stayed there.

I agree with the above, if I had known it was that location off of I-35, I would have advised against it as well. It is a shady area in general and bordering on some bad parts of Austin. For the sake of you and your car, consider other options

I picked the hotel since no one can make a decision. The extended stays one that was picked above seems like a good choice.
Extended Stay America - Austin - Arboretum - South
9100 Waterford Centre Blvd.
Austin, TX 78758
Phone:512-837-6677 Fax:512-837-6696
I booked my room for $62.99 (Got the extra pull out sleeper Sofa) just in case someone else wants to split the room. But either way, I am set and that is where I am staying. Suggest others do as well for that price.

Pre-meet locations
Short version:
On Saturday, meet at Mt. Bonnell park 1 hour before the meet starts. Meet/greet then a scenic drive to the Oasis. (When does meet start? 3:00? If so, meet at Mt. Bonnell @ 2:00)
On Sunday, meet at HEB parking lot at 2243 & 183 at 9:00am. Group parking for C&C starts at 9:30, must arrive together.
--
Long version:
Since this meet will feature so much of the scenery of Austin (Oasis, lake, drive route), we should probably keep that theme and meet somewhere just as scenic in advance. I'm proposing we meet at Mt. Bonnell park, located in west Austin off of 2222. From Mopac (Hwy 1), exit 2222, head west on 2222 and the park road entrance will be on the left hand side. It is not located at a stop light, so everyone needs to keep an eye out or you can miss it.
2222 is a very scenic, twisty road with large elevation changes and fun to drive, which leads to Mt Bonnell park that overlooks the Colorado river and provides scenic views of the entire city. They have parking along the street, then a large staircase which takes you to the top. It's not a very long climb, then you are up top overlooking the city landscape, pretty cool and great for out of towners.

Here's a link to various images of the park:
https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...og&sa=N&tab=li
Also for Cars & Coffee on Sunday, group parking starts at 9:30. I suggest we meet in the HEB parking lot at 9:00, located at 2243 & 183, just up the road from the C&C event location in Leander Town Square. We can all arrive together to improve our chances of getting a group space. I've already contacted the fire chief in charge of group parking at the event.

I say we meet around 1, 1:30 the latest. That will allow persons coming from out of town to stretch a little bit and mingle before we take off. We also should consider time that might be spent trying to park then getting the group together at Oasis. I'll update the first post.
