YAY!! Let the phone shopping begin...
I've been waiting until December when both mine and my husband's phone are eligible for upgrade so that we could do a B1G1 deal. However, he has recently decided that he wants the iPhone 4S (he's obsessed with the commercial, even though he'll NEVER use that function), and I want to stick with Droid. (We're with Verizon, btw)
I need help, though. I'm completely dumb about what to look for.
I text, a LOT.
Play a few games - Angy Birds, Scrabble, etc.
I use my phone's camera WAY more than my regular camera, so a good quality camera would be great.
I pretty much want a bad ass phone that will make him rethink getting an iPhone.
Any suggestions? Y'all talk way too technical for me in the Android thread. I need you to dumb it down for me. I'm not techy!!!
p.s. TIA!

Ok Jayne you are going to want to wait a little bit to buy a new phone. I know the wait will be hard as I am in the same boat. However Verizon is releasing the HTC Rezound and Droid Razr on Nov 10th and then the new rumor for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Prime is that it will be released on Black Friday. Sucks cause I want the Nexus Prime and don't want to wait that long. It will let me be sure though that I want to rule out the other two.

If you use your camera phone more than your regular phone, the choice has to be iPhone. With the amount of quality photography apps with iTunes, it's the choice. But if you want to just take pictures any of the newer Droids should do.
Both OS's are pretty equal, more customizing on Droid, but better/more apps on iPhone. Why worry if he wants iPhone, Verizon has both iPhone and Droids?

The concern isn't where to get the phones - we were just going to save more money by getting the same phone. And we're not both eligible for upgrade yet, only I am. But since we're not getting the same phone, all bets are off. The iPhone apps may be better, but they're also more expensive.
Already out. I don't really like the way it looks, but maybe I need to get over that. What's so "fuckin dope" about it?

Why is there so much hype about this?

A friend of mine has one, it barely lasts him 6 hours. I'd avoid it

Ah. Well...I did a VerizonWireless compare of the iPhone 4S 16GB and the Droid Razr - the differences are the 4G capability (not on the iPhone) and the "usage time" is nearly double for the Razr. I have a feeling that may be my winner. I actually do use YouTube quite a bit. It's great for the kids when we're waiting somewhere if they get restless. Izaiah watches cartoons every time we're at the Dr.

Jayne a reason I am staying away from the Razr is it doesn't have a removable battery so you can't just buy a new one easily when it stops lasting as long. Also means you can't get an extended battery for it.

It isn't confirmed but I had to post something since you keep posting the same question in like 80 different threads
It has passed through the FCC which means it will be available in a working for you just might have to buy it outright from AT&T and then put your sim card in it instead.

Check the FCC's website for spectrum approvals. Compare approval info to T-Mobile's frequencies, that'll tell you if it's been approved for T-Mobile or not.

The original Droid had very low specs so I'm not surprised it froze a lot. I'm still amazed at how Motorola was able to sell so many of them. Its all about marketing. With that said, the Droid RAZR is tons better than the original Droid and should be future proof for a while. I would consider the phone myself but I need my bootloaders unlocked and I'm waiting for the Galaxy Nexus. I'm hearing the Rezound is a POS from people who have review units already. Definitely take a look at the RAZR. (Its only 7.3 mm thick and made of Kevlar!) If you can wait, which it seems you can't, Galaxy Nexus.

IMO, if you need a phone now, get the Droid Razr - I plan to dump my Atrix the minute the Razr comes to AT&T and chances are it'll have alot of dev support.
The non-removable battery is not a deal breaker for me since I used to have an Iphone and even though I can remove my battery now, I don't see the need to.
However...
If you can wait... lets say 1-3 months (but who the hell knows with the way Samsung releases their stuff in NA) get the Samsung Galaxy Nexus/Prime.

Thanks for your inputs everyone. Not 100% yet, but definitely thinking about the Razr. If not that, it'll be the iPhone 4s, even though I hate the whole "superiority" complex of those who carry the iPhone and I would hate to be grouped with them. Battery life is kind of an issue for me. I've had to replace the batter at least once in just about all of my previous phones.

The Galaxy nexus has a feature that lets you take pictures very rapidly, one after another. The way you would on a DSLR.

Droid Razr is a cool phone but a bit too wide for me and the battery is TERRIBLE. That being said, 4 LTE is incredibly fast (over 10 megs down) but there aren't any widgets to turn it off to save your battery at the moment. I just turn all data off to conserve the battery because it will only last 4 hours or so with LTE on.
I like all the custom stuff you can do but still miss my iPhone 4

stay away from the Windows Phone 7....the way it is now it will NEVER see a dual core cpu setup (OS is not designed for it) and at this point in time 800*480 is all you seem to be able to get.....
