What is your Geographic Location, & Mobile Phone Provider, What Phone are You Using?
Hey Everybody. I would like to keep a running list of the members of this board and what phones and services they use. So if you can, please answer the following:
1.) Where are you located? (city, state) or you can be as specific as you want.
2.) Who is your mobile provider?
3.) What phone do you use and what kind of reception (signal strength) do you get? Also include what displays on the MID when you pair.
Please include firmware version if you know it and your experiences using it with the handsfree link in the TL
I think this way, people who want to switch providers will get a better understanding as to who is the better service in their given area.
Here is my info
1.) Dallas, TX. I go to Houston/Austin about once every other month and reception is also solid in both cities as well as the highways on the way down there. (45 & 35).
2.) T-Mobile (4 years and going strong)
3.) Currently I'm using a Sony Ericsson K700i. When I went to the dealer, everything showed up on the MID. Firmware version: R2L001.
Sony Ericsson T630 (R6C005), Sony Ericsson T637 (R3A025), Sony Ericsson Z600 (R6C005), Sony Ericsson T610 (R7A010), Sony Ericsson T616 (R1B027). Yes all these phones I have paired up with the TLl and everything displayed on the MID. I have also owned a Nokia 3650, 6600, 6310i but that was way before the 3rd gen TL came out.
To check firmware on a Sony Ericsson Phone click (right star left left star left star). Select Service Info, then Software Info and the firmware version will be the first line. On Nokia phones, hit star pound 0000 pound (*#0000#). For Motorola, go into settings and than other settings.
...Please keep the format to 1.) .... 2.) .... 3.) ....

1. Los Angeles (Calabasas), CA - I drive around all of the San Fernando Valley and get awesome reception with my new phone (see #3 below).
2. T-Mobile (almost 2 years) and I love it!
3. Currently I am also using the K700i. Everything shows in the MID and overall the phone performs great with the HFL. I believe my firmware (you'll know for sure Alex) is R2L001.

1.) Fullerton CA, Im usually in all parts of LA/orange county
2.) Sprint PCS (2yrs) and Cingular (1st yr after i dc'ed 3 yrs ago)
3.) Sanyo scp-5300 excellent phone, use it for business, strong reception and very good camera, oh yeah sprint is the worst for text messages.
Sony Ericsson T637 Like the black case, matches well w/ the ebony interior, good personal phone, doesn't bulge out of pockets, reception is good but not as strong as the sanyo. No problems what so ever in the TL and the camera is a POS

1.) Pittsburg, CA. - I commute to San Francisco & get great reception except in Clayton, where every provider has problems there.
2.) My provider is AT&T, but it's going to merge with Cingular, who acquired AT&T early this year. I've been with AT&T for 12 yrs. when it was originally Cellular One.
3.) I use the Nokia 6820 which gets great reception & pairs well w/ the HFL. No meters show up on the MID, only the 'triangle image". I don't know if there is any firmware version/update for my phone.

I live in austin, and I use Cingular with a Moto V600. Reception is not great, but not terrible either. It tends to do poorly when I am behind a hill or something (of which, there are a fair amount in Austin)

I live in Delaware (the State's not big enough to worry about a city)
I use AT&T wireless and have a SE T637. Reception has been good
Everything shows on the MID. no probs.
Firmware .. R3A027 prgCXC11-22714_MARTHA_N (I have no idea what that means)

1) Palo Alto, CA, 3 miles SW of Stanford Univ. (work location)
2) Verizon
3) Motorola V710, full 5-bar signal strength. (AT&T has a dead spot here which is one reason I went with Verizon.) TL HFL excellent but no signal or battery indicator in MID, supposedly will be fixed in upcoming S/W version.

Keep Right Except to Pass
1) Northern Virginia (live there, work in DC; frequent road trips to Charlottesville)
2) Verizon (America's Choice plan)
3) Motorola v710. Incoming caller ID displays on the MID, assuming the number is available of course. No signal strength or battery life, but I don't care about the latter since when I am driving I put the phone on a car charger that sits in the lower compartment under the center armrest. Only problem using the phone with the HFL is that initially incoming calls would not ring through; this was solved by using the solution discussed elsewhere on these boards of selecting a different ringer (basically, I took a cordless phone out to the garage and called the cell phone using different ringers until it rang through the HFL).

1) Atlanta, GA (travel domestic & internationally for work)
2) AT&T GSM (now Cingular - National GSM) and Verizon (America's Choice)
3) SonyEricsson T616 (everything displays properly; however when on Cingular it says "RM" (roaming) and the TL will speak "to save the car's battery the call is being transferred to the handset" when I turn off the car - doesn't happen while on the AT&T network)

1) Eugene, Oregon
2) Verizon
3) V710
I have finally got things working after several perplexing calls to Acura and Motorola, and then finally finding this forum -- getting incoming calls was a challenge. Phone and signal displays, along with phone number for incoming calls (caller id). So far signal seems pretty good, but I notice when my wife calls from the TL (her car!) around town there's a little crackle. I've used it on the I-5 corridor between Eugene and Seattle and it sounds good.

3. Motorola V710
I have had the phone for about one week. Have had good success with the phone so far. I was expecting it to be able to sync up with my phone directory via bluetooth, but no luck.

2) Sprint - no problems
3) SE T608 - Everything shows up in the MID, however people complain about the sound quality on their end via the HFL (sounds fine on my end). I'm wondering if other phones sound better... any thoughts?

2) Verizon (almost 2 years)
3) Samsung a-310. It's an old phone and I can't wait to upgrade. Drops calls, goes into analog (when there is a tower less than a mile away from me). The only thing I can't complain about is battery life. I can go for days without charging it.

Sorry for the confusion -- no battery strength display, just phone and the cell tower icon --like everyone else.

1. Philadelphia area, PA (Montgomery County) - I drive around the entire north east of PA and all of NJ, Manhattan. Work in Orange County, CA.
2. AT&T (almost 7 years), GSM, very few dead spots in the travel area stated above
3. Nokia 6820b, phone is great, have a Motorola BT headset too, no issue w/battery life. MID does not display signal or battery strength. Pairing was a breeze.
No major issues, just learning how best to speak for voice rec.

2. 8-9 months with T-Mobile (satsified with service)
3. Sony-Ericsson T-610
Both the battery and signal strength shows up on the MID. So far no problems.

3) Motorola V710. Don't remember the firmware version, but it's whatever came with the phone. As is well known, the signal strength and battery indications don't display on the TL's display though a firmware update is supposed to fix that.
My reception is generally excellent in the areas I use the phone most, which are lower Manhattan, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The reception is definitely better than that of the T720 that preceded my V710.
mobilezen, have you heard anything about the V710 firmware update? I thought it was coming out in September.
Regards,

3. S/E T616 with R1B027 firmware. Everthing shows on the MID.
Since I ugraded to the R1B software I occasionally find the phone data shows on the MID when I start the car. I am unable to access the voice recognition unless I first depress the the talk and then the cancel key.
The phone works well otherwise.

Can you hear me now? Good!
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
Moto v600
Displays signal strength and Caller ID.
Slow to answer incoming calls. After I push the phone button, I wait to see "IN USE" on the MID, then give it another second to say "Hello". That works.
People at the other end sometimes complain about audio quality when I'm driving at highway speeds. Rarely, I hear an echo of my own voice with a time delay.
I need to keep connected to the power cord on a long trip as the HFL seems to use a lot of power on the cell. No problem with cord in top tier of center console.
Bad reception spots are still there with or without the HFL.
