Viewing fonts across platforms
Thought I would throw this out there. I am dealing with an issue where a particular font(Calibri) used to create documents and send in pdf form are causing viewing issues. I have seen two common issues arise, on XP machines if the font is missing the problem is simply resolved by either emailing the fonts and copying them to the fonts folder or installing a patch from MS.
On Apple machines it is a bit more difficult. If they have MS office installed, they can use an upgrade patch. If no MS office installed they are unable to view the font on the page.
Has anyone run into this before or know a way to resolve? Embedding the font in the pdf just isn't feasible at this time. I have been searching online for a few days now and haven't really found anything solid. I did come across something the other day that talked about substituting fonts in the document; basically selecting a different font like Arial to display whenever the missing font was called for, but I do not have a Mac to try it out on.
Any ideas??

Download the trial edition of Microsoft office, there is an option (or at least there was) for installing just the fonts.

choose a different font that is on all platforms? I don't think I'd make someone jump through hoops just to see text rendered in a certain font. They probably won't do it anyways, they probably don't care about the font as long as they can read the text.

Changing the font isn't really an option right now. I personally don't care what font they see it in, the issue is that their readers are not substituing another font, rather displaying dots. I would be quite happy if their reader would just revert to a default font of sorts, but that is not happening.
