If the FTC and Justice Dept agree to this merger, a condition of it should be to let those T-M customers out of their contracts.

If AT&T raises their rates, it'll only give me more reason to move on to Verizon.

AT&T will switch T-Mo people to AT&T phones, at that time I can see AT&T imposing AT&T rates, because they'll be "new customers" to AT&T system.

AT&T's proposed $39 billion buyout of T-Mobile hit a roadblock on Wednesday when the Department of Justice filed to block the deal over concerns that it would reduce wireless market competition.
“The combination of AT&T and T-Mobile would result in tens of millions of consumers all across the United States facing higher prices, fewer choices and lower quality products for mobile wireless services,” said Deputy Attorney General James M. Cole at a news conference.

A failure of the deal puts T-Mobile in a difficult position. It's struggling to compete with the larger carriers, and owner Deutsche Telekom AG has said it's not willing to invest more in the venture.
AT&T has promised T-Mobile $3 billion in cash if the deal doesn't go through, plus spectrum rights and agreements that could be worth billions more.

Seems like it's in T Mobiles best interest for the deal to not go through then

AT&T is saying that if this doesn't happen it will be bad for the customers, if they planned on paying T all this damn money if the deal didn't good, why didn't they just put all the those billions into upgrading their system to start with. T has said that they are not going to invest their system beyond a certain point.

^ Well, it's actually deutsche telekom, the parent of T mobile, that doesn't want to invest in T mobile's U.S. business anymore.
If T mobile wants to expand, then they have to do so using revenue from T mobiles U.S. operations. No help from daddy. Since a lot of people are jumping ship to ATT and VZ because of iPhone and better coverage, T mobile's revenues have been on the decline.
The $3 billion and spectrum rights should help T mobile a bit, if deal goes south

As a T-Mo customer, I'm glad this deal didn't go through. I just know AT&T wouldn't continue to let us use their network on T-Mo prices.
Then again if they do merge and the prices go up, I could just never sign a new contract once the current one expires, that way I don't have to pay the higher costs. I'm would just be solo on getting a new phone though. But I'll cross that bridge if it comes to it.

You do realize Sprint was going to buy Tmobile but ATT offered Tmo. a sweeter deal. Sprint stock fell the next day. Who knows what sprint has up their sleeve..... They may buy Tmo. and lease the towers out to. ATT to increase profit margin.

Not so much a merger, but a buyout of customers. That won't go over well.

Glad this is not going through. Used to work with a company that was a reseller for ATT and they even treated their business partners like crap. the only way one could get around the forced ATT migration is to get an unlocked phone that can operate on their 3g frequency. I was/am seriously considering going BACK to Sprint if T-Mobile gets the gobbled up by ATT

Seems the final nail has been hit ...

And there are blaming the DOJ and FCC. Guess they might actually have to build a network. Guess they won't be bringing all of those oversea jobs here, if there were any to start with.

I wanted this to fail from the get go I didn't really see the chance for any good to come of it. More than likely prices would have gone up not down for us.

The AT&T and T-Mobile USA combination would have offered an interim solution to this spectrum shortage. In the absence of such steps, customers will be harmed and needed investment will be stifled.

Absolutely stupid and retarded.
Congress, courts, people have been so busy worried about a merger regarding fucking cell companies, they've put in such huge efforts to block it.
Personally, I could give a fuck....how about paying attention to something that actually matters. Right now there is a merger about to happen regarding to two huge and already shitty prescription insurance companies...
How about people put as much effort into stopping that shit from happening, which in the end will have a much larger impact on people's lives than fucking mobile phones.
