printer server question

I'm trying to share my printer between my desktop and lap top.
setup
desktop win xp hooked up to a netgear wifi g router
printer is an hp 6110 using a hawkingstech usb print server harwired to my router
laptop is a dell inspirion using the centrino chip to communicate with the router.
Internet works fine on both and i'm able to print from my desktop.

However, my client softwareon the laptop is unable to find the printer server. this is my first attempt at networking a printer so i'm a little iffy.

a. I'm I supposed to setup a workgroup for both of my computers in order to see the printer server
or
b. should i be able to see the printer server without setting up a network.

any help or tips will be apreciated and yes I did before writting this.

Just found this post.

I believe all print server are usually one way. Meaning that they do not communicate back to the PC. For instance, a print server will be good for printing only (but not for scanning nor PC-Fax, etc).

Usually, for a print server, you will need to add the printer manually, adding a TCP/IP port to your laptop.
