Oh yea while watching CNBC at work yesterday when they were talking about netflix stock and the guy that works next to me got pissed off. He initially bought it a few years ago when it was around $30/share and dumped it a few weeks later ... and now its up around $180

Just signed up last night. Did the $7.99 plan since we really don't need the DVDs, just using it for the streaming. That said, being able to get a movie at a time in addition to streaming is a bonus... So far I gotta say it's pretty awesome. From what I've seen so far... it blows Hulu Plus out of the water. Have both on trial right now, but looks like we'll be dumping Hulu Plus and keeping NetFlix...

The alternative is pretty much redbox/blockbuster express but some don't offer BD's and redbox has that 30 day wait period. I guess PPV on either PSN/Live or your TV provider is the way to go now for 1st day releases.

I thought I read somewhere once it had something to do with contracts with the dvd companies it cable companies had with the movie companies that they couldn't but they were working on it and once what ever was holding them from being able to they would. I feel the same. Once new releases are available instant stream I would be willing to pay more. Especially if they upper the quality, which isn't bad for me anyway

i figured with the fall of blockbuster, that maybe/hopefully in the next year or two the contract with cable companies/ppv will start to crumble...
once more people realize the enormous value of netflix its only a matter of time.
watching 10+ movies a month for $8 rather than renting one from PPV/Cable for $5-$6
but yea, hoping they can move on from that soon.

I agree with certain titles that really focus on audio/video for my HT and HDTV. Unfortunately the majority of movies that I watch overall will have more than adequate quality on Netflix with my wired connection. The best audio streamed is only DD5.1. When they can upload the larger BD quality video and audio with DTS-HD/TrueHD, then I might stop buying BD's.

Holy smokes, look at the rate increase! The $9.99 DVD/Stream plan is now $16 FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU Netflix! I'm going to keep the streaming and ditch the DVD. I'll give Redbox a shot.

http://blog.netflix.com/2011/07/netf...plans-and.html
First, we are launching new DVD only plans. These plans offer our lowest prices ever for unlimited DVDs – only $7.99 a month for our 1 DVD out at-a-time plan and $11.99 a month for our 2 DVDs out at-a-time plan. By offering our lowest prices ever, we hope to provide great value to our current and future DVDs by mail members. New members can sign up for these plans by going to DVD.netflix.com.
Second, we are separating unlimited DVDs by mail and unlimited streaming into separate plans to better reflect the costs of each and to give our members a choice: a streaming only plan, a DVD only plan or the option to subscribe to both. With this change, we will no longer offer a plan that includes both unlimited streaming and DVDs by mail.
So for instance, our current $9.99 a month membership for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs will be split into 2 distinct plans:
Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month
Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs, 1 out at-a-time (no streaming), for $7.99 a month.
The price for getting both of these plans will be $15.98 a month ($7.99 + $7.99). For new members, these changes are effective immediately; for existing members, the new pricing will start for charges on or after September 1, 2011.
Why the changes?
Last November when we launched our $7.99 unlimited streaming plan, DVDs by mail was treated as a $2 add on to our unlimited streaming plan. At the time, we didn’t anticipate offering DVD only plans. Since then we have realized that there is still a very large continuing demand for DVDs both from our existing members as well as non-members. Given the long life we think DVDs by mail will have, treating DVDs as a $2 add on to our unlimited streaming plan neither makes great financial sense nor satisfies people who just want DVDs. Creating an unlimited DVDs by mail plan (no streaming) at our lowest price ever, $7.99, does make sense and will ensure a long life for our DVDs by mail offering. Reflecting our confidence that DVDs by mail is a long-term business for us, we are also establishing a separate and distinct management team solely focused on DVDs by mail, led by Andy Rendich, our Chief Service and Operations Officer and an 11 year veteran of Netflix.
Now we offer a choice: Unlimited Streaming for $7.99 a month, Unlimited DVDs for $7.99 a month, or both for $15.98 a month ($7.99 + $7.99). We think $7.99 is a terrific value for our unlimited streaming plan and $7.99 a terrific value for our unlimited DVD plan. We hope one, or both, of these plans makes sense for our members and their entertainment needs.
As always, our members can easily choose to change or cancel their unlimited streaming plan, unlimited DVD plan, or both by visiting Your Account

Funny, someone made a good point in that, the unlimited single DVD plan USED to be 15 a month....so really, in perspective, its not a big deal. I guess.
The reality is, its all a tax write off me regardless.

This will backfire on them. Just trying to decide if we should drop streaming or mail, but one of em's gotta go.
