Info on Blackberry 7130e/ Verizon

I'm going to be taking advantage of the Verizon "new every two" program and getting a new cell. I was planning on just getting a regular camera phone -nothing spectacular to replace my LG V6100. However, I'm thinking of getting the following phone:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/s...edPhoneId=2080

I'm considering this phone b/c I'm a special education administrator for a school system and I'm often away from my office/computer and need to consult my email or Outlook calendar. Sometimes it's hard to do so at my schools-thus, the reason I'm looking at this kind of phone. Any feedback on it? I'll be able to access my Outlook email/calendar on this and sync it with my desktop, right?

I've got a couple of questions though:
Right now my wife and I just have a regular 1000 minute/month family plan. Do I need to add something else on to compensate for using the blackberry more often for email? I won't be sending text messages or anything-just checking my email a couple times/day.

Is a Blackberry a bad purchase now since the legal difficulties they're encountering?
Is there another Verizon product I should consider?

TIA!

44/a month for blackberry service on your existing plan...blackberry is a great choice...but you will only be able to view your outlook calendar and do what you have to do if your on the BES (blackberry enterprise server)....I wouldnt suggest getting one unless your getting a bunch of berrys or your school is willing to pay for it...(i believe they start at 2k or so)....

Thanks for the reply- how does the BES work? Will I be able to make new appointments on it?
I noticed the Verizon has a data plan for $25 for 10MB of usage. Does that make sense? I'm not going to be using it a ton every day but it won't sit collecting dust. Do I need to consider a Treo or something else?

I wish the school system was buying these! I was "issued" a Palm 105 or 102 that I consider to be basically useless- that's why I'm looking to do this on my own. You would not want your taxpayers $$$$ wasted on toys for administration now would ya?
