imac 27" or sony L series

my hp desktop is causing me so many headaches. Its not even that old, and the damn thing crashes at least once every other time i start it. And it freezes likr 2 out of 4 times i use it. And it keeps going to the menu when you dont shut it down properly. Even though i shut down properly. i didnt even back up my itunes music,photos.etc.. and it lost everything., i swear i will never buy another hp product, gateway, toshiba. every again. such garbage.
i am a die hard pc person, i really dont like apple os system. but i took a look at the imac 27" and it is just beautiful.

what would you guys get?

There have been a few problems with the 27", there's been a lot of talk about them being DOA and the screens broken.

I wish you gave more details about your problems instead of ranting in a way that no one can follow what you're talking about. I'm sure your problem can be fixed and going out and buying a new PC is unnecessary.

It's like if your car is starting intermittently you don't just throw it away and buy another you get if fixed.

If you don't like the Mac OS why would you get a mac? Unless you wanted to load Windows 7 on it via boot camp which you could do. That way you get the look of a Mac but all the wonders and joys of Windows 7. Otherwise I think you'd just regret dropping $1800 on a computer that you don't like to use. I like the look of the Sony L but I haven't seen any reviews of it yet. I think you should get your PC fixed.

Are computer literate at all? Can you take screenshots? Vista has a snipping tool you can use to take screenshots just search the search bar for it. Then take a screenshot of the "reliability and performance monitor". I want to know if you're having hardware, application or Windows problems and that program will tell us.

Friend of mine got a 27" iMac a week ago. I've been helping him get things figured out and installed since it's his first mac. He was a die-hard pc user but I converted him

He loves the computer so far and said he would do it all over if he had to. He also said his next laptop will be a Mac.

Ps. He's trying to figure out if he wants to run bootcamp on the 27". With an Intel-Mac, you can have both OS's if you miss/need Windows for anything.

1) Those were only the core i7 models and I think they fixed it.

2) Buy one from the Apple Store and have them open and plug it in before you leave.

I'll sell him my 24" iMac so I can justify an upgrade to a 27".

I've been personally veering more towards mac after being a windows user since 1995 with windows 3.1. I own a MBP 2.4 model and an iPhone 3G and I just picked up a 3GS for my wife a couple weeks back. I've been having problems with my desktop at home so I ended up purchasing a 27" iMac i7.

Sure I'm buying an Apple piece of hardware, but I don't look at it that way because it's capable of running windows or os x. Every computer has it's benefits and detriments. It really all boils down to which problems are deal breakers for you and which aren't. I have lots of gripes about Apple's stuff as much as I do about Microsoft's stuff (as well as the pc hardware their OS runs on). The switch over to os x went rather smooth for me, I still use XP Pro at work on my desktop and OS X on the new macbook pro they issued to me, but if I had to do it again, I would have made the switch over faster than I did.

The thing that really scares me about the iMacs, is the all-in-one setup. I hate that setup with a passion, but I figure with the protection warranty it'll be fine. I'll just have to be good about ensuring that I back up all my data in case I ever need to send it in for service.

3 or almost 3 years now with my 24" imac...no problems. One weird disc drive issue that seemed to resolve its self.

I'll buy another one when its time to upgrade.

It's really no different than buying a laptop.

forget laptops and Macs.

you want hassle free?? let me introduce you to the ThermonMermon system:

invest in a high quality screen and a $50 external harddrive. then recycle a mediocre ($500) PC tower every 2 or 3 years. no headaches, no antivirus, no spyware, no maintenance. im done with living in fear of upkeeping a $2,000+ laptop / mac. this way, youll always have an up-to-date, sharp, fresh computer.

^^^# 1STUNNA lol, should make the angry smiley his signature...well, I guess it is, never mind

anyway, why is I'm the only one in my family that has a a machine that works consistently? Most people appear to be like the OP. My old ass machine is on 24/7, usually dl'ing something and never has a problem, but some people can't seem to even get them to turn on, without breaking it.

btw, random useless news, I'm getting yet another "broken" Dell for free. It's not broken, it's just running ME. I don't plan on ever actually buying another computer, haven't bought one since 99' just running on freebies.

I apologize for my useless story, but this seems to be the place for it.

True, and if anything, probably better than buying a laptop since it'll be less prone to physical damage.
