Latest Rumor is that Google May sell this phone directly to consumers and let consumers choose their carrier. Will the phone work on any carrier? CDMA or GSM?
We'll see!

FTA:
Google intends to stamp its own brand on the Nexus One and sell it directly to consumers over the Web, leaving it up to the buyers to pick their own carriers, according to reports published in technology blogs and major newspapers. That could open new possibilities while igniting new tensions in the mobile phone market.
Just how much Nexus One shakes things up will likely hinge on the phone's price.
Most smart phones designed for Web access sell for $50 to $200, thanks to subsidies provided by wireless carriers in return for commitments to service plans that cost $800 to $1,000 a year. Without the financial aid, the phones would sell for $400 to $600 — a range that most consumers have been unwilling to pay, especially in a shaky economy.
T-Mobile has agreed to provide a subsidy for a Nexus One that works on its wireless network, according to published reports. Such an agreement wouldn't represent a substantial change from the status quo.
Yet Google appears to be betting that the Nexus One will make a big enough splash to persuade other major U.S. wireless carriers — AT&T Inc., Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp. — to subsidize the device, too, said technology analyst Rob Enderle.
"If enough customers want this phone, the carriers will have no choice but to follow," he predicted.
That would also break the traditional practice of giving carriers the right to sell specific models exclusively for a certain period.

From what I am reading as of late, T-Mobile was the first Carrier to announce a Nexus Plan, but they are saying that Google can still drop a bomb today saying it will work with any carrier.
let me see if I can find the article again.

yes the iphone hasn't been announced yet but their schedule is has been in the summer. The smartphone market is getting so hot right now due to android that iPhone would be insane not to release one this year. Shit I think they should be doing bi-yearly updates. If this next iPhone isn't the shit then they're going to lose me and I'm going over to android. Android is looking really good right about now.

The rumor is that T-Mobile will have its own iPhone in Q3. I've had the first 3 T-Mobile Android phones. Hardware kills it for me each time so I have finally went back to an unlocked 2G iPhone. Miss the 3G a little bit. I work at Corporate so the employee discount on price plans for me is seriously the only reason I'm not on another carrier. If we do actually get the iPhone this year, I'll finally have a reason to be sprung.
The NexusOne is a great phone but I just believe HTC makes their equipment cheap. The Motorola Cliq has great hardware (phone body) but that processor kills the battery and Android Performance.

We will know in March about the 4G iPhone. Only thing I've read is availability on Verizon. I'm sure we will see the usual processor/screen updates. Maybe some improvements to notifications.

Reading various sites and the live cast, it seems like as far as verizon goes the Motorola Droid will either get the N1 Software update 2.1 or Motorola will be coming out with a new CDMA/GSM phone that will work with verizon.
It will not be the N1 on Verizon.

This is straight from the google.com/phone website "The Nexus One Phone with Verizon Wireless service. Coming soon in the United States."

It may be a new Motorola Phone (An Update to the Droid) made by motorola called the Nexus One? who Knows. Maybe they will call all of their phones "Nexus"?
One thing that makes me believe this is that if you go to google.com/phone and under verizon they link you right to the Droid. "If you can't wait click here" Maybe its a hint?

If tmobile is solid in your area, it's a no brainer. Get the Nexus. Unless you NEED a physical keyboard.
