Ethernet connectivity issue
Just got a new replacement router from AT&T. My computer has always been directly connected using ethernet, now it wont get online at all. Tried resetting the router, restarting my comp, using different ethernet cables.... nothing.
Every other computer hooked up through wifi or ethernet works fine. Ive seen suggestions from googling that I may need a new network interface card, but how do I know for sure?
I also tried disabling and stopping bonjour DNS responder service and it gets rid of the yellow triangle but still no connection.

I wonder if this computer is "looking" for you old router connections. You said others are working fine, and I assume ATT has the new MAC address.
Try changing your encryption settings and make sure the name of the network and password match. Also is this a dual band router?

try flushing dns... and like above mentioned, make sure your internet connection setting is set to *auto*...and that no proxy is turned on.
to flush..
click start, in the search box:
type cmd
type ipconfig /flushdns
type ipconfig /release
type ipconfig /renew
finally type ipconfig, if your IP starts with 169...you are not getting connectivity from the router itself...
See if this help...and is the light on the router for online is solid green?
P.S. to check regarding proxy, you need to go Adapter Settings, right click on properties on the Adapter, Properties, highlight IPv4 TCP, Properties, make sure it says obtain automatically for ip and the dns

Did you assign a static IP on your PC and need to change it back to DHCP? Open a command prompt and type "ipconfig" what does that say your IP is?

I personally didnt change any settings.... I used to run a super long ethernet cable from the old router to my computer until we had a guy come over and run the cable through the walls of the house. I didnt change any settings then, but ill check on the static IP and what not later.
thanks for the suggestions so far guys. Gonna have to try them out when I get home...

typed up a relatively long post last night on my phone before AZ went down and deleted it here we go again.
Tried all the ipconfig settings. Didnt fix it. It says my autoconfig IPv4 address is 169.254.149.236.
I have no clue what duplex, static, DHCP or PPPOE settings are. Ive seen them but never touched them before.
Should also note, the ethernet light on the router blinks like crazy. Its never solid.

169... meaning your router is not getting the internet connection...or it's not assigned an ip by the router.
Did you mention that your other computers and devices are connected to the same router and work fine???

Yeah, other computers and devices are hooked up through wifi or ethernet and work fine. My computer is the only one having this issue. Ive gotta head out but im gonna try moving my tower over and hooking it up directly to the router when i get home.

The model is 3801HGV. POS just got here a few days ago. The broadband and service light are solid, while ethernet, wireless and homepna all blink intermittently.
Also when i tried ipconfig /renew the command screen indents then shows:
Windows IP Configuration
And thats it. Nothing else happens?

So let's rewind a bit and see if you're using a static IP or being assigned one (DHCP).
Right click on your ethernet connection in the taskbar > Open Network and Sharing Center. Click on the connection you're trying to diagnose, usually just Local Area Connection. Once the status windows is up, go to properties. Click Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click properties again.
Which of the following applies:
1. There are no numbers filled in because the option "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected
or
2. There are numbers filled in because "Use the following IP address" is selected
If it's number 1, follow the steps mentioned above using the command line for releasing and renewing the IP as well as flushing DNS. If it's number 2, post what is in all the boxes (including DNS settings). Hope this helps.

guess im on DHCP. I followed the steps and "obtain an ip address automatically" as well as "obtain dns server address automatically" were both selected by default.
The ipconfig /flush /reset /renew options didnt fix the problem...

Anyways..
ok, so the issue maybe in your computer...
a) something with the network driver? try booting in to safe mode with networking just out of curiosity to see it if will work, this way we can rule our software issues.
b) if your network card is good and the driver is good, you can manually assign a static ip...go to any other computer... ipconfig /all and record the two DNS and Default Gateways IPs...
use that in properties I've told you before, so instead of 'obtain' you'll have your own... for IP address, end the number with something random like 150.... 192.168.1.150... and then insert the rest.. the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
But first, what do you mean by connected your pc directly to ATT POS modem/router?

^Im leaning towards reformatting my computer actually even though its only a few.months old
My ethernet connection goes into a wall jack, then out into the same room the router is in. Dunno if something in between is messed up but im gonna try and move my tower into the same room and hook it up couldnt hurt.
Totally forgot id downloaded the network driver on another comp... doh. Been all over the place.
