fuck fuck fuck...
6 Years and my desktop just shit the bed. Pretty sure the processor took a dump. All fans spin, all drive spin, no power or drive light, all cards seated ok, motherboard light comes on...
Nothing. No beeps, no warnings, no display at all.
NOT what I needed right now...

OK, putting parts list together...

Was just looking at that ASRock mobo and these:
Intel Core i5-2400 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52400

then I'll need a new case, new HDD, optical drive and PSU

Would LOVE some thoughts on these components as I need to order ASAP...
If there are better options (stability, reliability) I am all ears...
Will initially be running a Sata6.0 OS drive.

I have been running the last gen i5 with a 460 for ... since they both came out. No problems, but i have been running with a intel board (since I'm not overclocking or running dual video cards). Ram can be a crapshoot.
Stogie, I've had great luck with ASUS boards over the years. Currently running a previous generation i5 760 with the same Corsair Vengeance ram and a GTX260. Very stable. I rarely ever shut it down, just let it go to sleep and click the mouse to wake it up. I notice you didn't spec a PSU. Are you planning on getting a new one? If your old one is in fact 6 years old, I'd recommend replacing it as well. I'd recommend the Corsair TX series.
Thanks guys.
Stapler, I will check out the intel boards, too. I have had good luck with my current ASUS MB.
Lite, good point on the PSU, but my old one may fit the bill, will have to check...
Cochese, NO plans to overclock. Again, stability not a little more speed is important to me.

Try out a Corsair H50 cooler for better cooling and quieter operation. I put one on my son's i5 and it keeps the core temps way down. I've got one to put on my i7 rig, just need to make the time to transplant it to a new case with clearance for it.
stogie, pull the ram out of the board and try to start it. if you get beeps your mobo is ok, depending on how many beeps you get it means diff things, you can look up the manual for your specific board on the manufacturers website and get what that error code (beeps) means. It might save you from completely rebuilding...that is unless you just want an excuse for a newer pc. Which if thats the case just build a new one.
http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/ there are a couple of sites that use a similar calculator.
You can see that the thing that really eats up power is if you select overclocking.
I think I'm running a 650 right now, but that probably means it was part of a combo deal.

Thanks Stapler!
Ran it and it said 420 would be fine, plus I added a few extra USB and HDD just to be sure. Should be OK on the PWR SPLY...

I personally wouldn't bother. Sure, it might be a little cheaper, but if you built one yourself it will be with quality components that should last a long time. Prebuilt PCs also tend to come with underpowered (IMO) PSUs.

Yeah, I tried the new vid card... No luck.
Could try a new mobo, but I really don't want to mess with this for a month trying stuff and then find out the processor took a dump.
Looks like I will be ordering from newegg shortly....
