Exclamation Cingular Treo 650 owners - 1.17 update - or else...

has my prayers been answered? here's a partial list of changes:

http://www.palm.com/us/support/downl.../cingular.html

# Includes VersaMail 3.1c, the latest version for Cingular Wireless Treo 650, which includes an updated Mail Service (ISP) list.
# Adds support for Gmail attachment downloads via web browser
# Optimizes Bluetooth performance for some Motorola headsets and other car kits
# Adds voice quality enhancements.
# Optimizes memory handling
# Correctly saves Auto-off power setting. This addresses an issue experienced by some users after installing updater version 1.15
# Adds an audible beep to indicate call initiation failures

the biggest hope is the bluetooth update. i don't enjoy frequent restarts when using the T650 w/ HFL so hopefully it does "optimize bluetooth performance".

the versamail update hopefully covers the buggy imap feature

i won't know until later. i just updated it.

if my prayers aren't answered, then looks like i'll be switching to a Nokia again. i've been looking at the E61

http://www.europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,,81718,00.html

i don't care how much this phone cost (under $1,000 ), as long as it's unlocked and GSM. i really wished i didn't dump my 6260 for this POS T650

hope the update takes care of my problem and keep me happier until the E61 is released

T700 is out of the question, why?
- seems only verizon will be carrying it
- it's pocket pc
- no news on native OS X support
- T650 left a bad taste in my mouth

the "optimize bluetooth" they mentioned means that the signal strength now appears on the HFL gauge on my TL. it also has "RM" on it. guess that means roaming? coz the phone is originally cingular but has been unlocked and used with tmobile.

anyways, my problem that 1.15 solved is now back. where i use HFL to make calls but the treo just sits there and laughs at me while the [ B ] changes to a headset logo and doesn't make the call. then once you notice nothing is happening, you try and cancel HFL but your treo won't let go. you have to turn off the phone and turn it on again for it to disconnect.

so after the update, if i want to make a call, i'd have to dial on the phone/select from contact list. once it connects the call, i can use the "transfer" command (at least that command works better now). i thought HFL meant "hands-free" i guess it doesn't

so "F" palm for this crappy device and "F" them for switching to pocket pc. i'm sure i'm not the only OS X user upset at that

so update at your own risk i guess

i can't wait for a "real" phone with PDA features

you have to set your connections with T-Mobile. you have 2 options

1) go to Prefs -> Communication -> Network
- create a new service
- Service: tmobile
- Connection: GPRS
- blank username
- blank password
- APN: internet2.voicestream.com

or

2) call their internet support and have them send you the settings via SMS (text message)

if you only paid for the tzone service, you're only allowed to view WAP pages. if you wan to view regular pages, you must get the regular internet service at $19.99/month

no dice on option 1 or 2? just call 611 and get transferred to the internet support. once there ask if they can send you the internet settings. they'll ask for the phone number and they'll send it to you. once you receive it. just open it up and it will install automatically. then you go Prefs -> Communication -> Network and select it and that's it
