Choosing a new Laptop

I came and brought back Lazarus... junk was cooked. a simple chkdsk showed bad sections or something.
So like any Southern mechanic, I took the back off and beat the hard drive like hell with a screw driver. Actually that method gave me a weird, but "peek at some text" screen for about 5 secs.
With that, I took an install disk from a 1996 desktop. It did something to Bios enough to do a advanced boot under a factory image. (Why not the install disk for this machine??? Because somebody broke into the house on only stole it.) So the hardrive is reformated... everything I had is gone. (Well I did recover some from my phone, SD's and other places. )
Already restored SP2, Kies, and working on the other.
But I'm still keeping my order for the Alien. I know the screwdriver method doesn't last long.

And to add to the above, MS Office may be in trouble. For the first time I did NOT spend the bucks to get this on my new computer. I have other CPUs, tablets and phones to get the same message across. (I also have old 2007 disks with codes if needed).
At first, I thought S. Jobs was crazy with doing away with optical support and the such. But why install a 10 megaton system when: 1) I could send it to his cloud or sun for $1.99 a pop or 2) transfer it it my phone and touch another one and the idea is transferred. All of this while paying maybe $2.99 a session to create on their software.

The purple Alien came in today and she's up and running (with 32 gb of ram... toss it abit) to kick some ass.
Out of all the crap, I had the most trouble with microsoft trying to get a gd password to give them money to download office 2013.
I'm going to need a crash course in Win 8. I can't even get to a home screen without hitting the win button.
