Blackberry Bold vs. HTC Touch Pro

My sister's looking for a new phone, and she does a lot of e-mailing. Not sure what would be best for her, and I only know some of the on-paper details about these 2 phones. Help?

Apples to oranges. If she is not due for an upgrade, she's going to shell out lots of dough for the Bold. HTC has windows mobile and the Bold has Blackberry OS. One has a qwerty, one has a touch screen. That being said, if her main concern is email, I would say Bold.

+1. iPhone's are not as email friendly as BB's are.

+1 to the past 2 post.

If the device is for email, BB is more superior > *

Now if your looking for a cool media phone, the pro might be the way to go.

She wants to do e-mail and surfing the web, but she doesn't like the Blackberry browser, and she likes to surf using Safari on the iPhone (when she doesn't have nails). BUT she needs a QWERTY keyboard, not a touchscreen one like the iPhone.... since she usually has nails. The HTC Touch Pro does have a QWERTY keyboard, btw.... not to be confused with the HTC Touch HD which doesn't.

Oh and the carrier is probably going to be AT&T but she cares more about the phone than anything else. Also I personally own an iPhone, and would not recommend it, even if she didn't have nails. WAY too many issues.

did she check out the bold yet? The browser on the new BBs are light years ahead of the last gen BBs (unless you upgrade the OS on the older BBs).

if mainly for email and only some web browsing (reading RSS feeds, quick searches for info, just to pass the time at the airport), I would get the BB. I have an iPhone and regret giving up my BB for it. The email function of the iPhone is tedious relative to a BB...you can't beat pulling it out of a sleeper case and have the phone jumping to the new email as soon as you look at the screen, unlike the iPhone where you have to unlock, select email app, select the mailbox, then select the message.

I think she does have a Blackberry Bold at work (she just said "we have the Blackberry at work" but didn't elaborate) and she prefers touchscreen navigation for some reason and she views Windows Mobile as a plus. I'm starting to think that's the touchscreen is the main reason she likes the Touch Pro though, along with maybe having something different. She's had older Blackberrys before. I pointed out to her that the Bold has a 3.5mm audio jack but she thought, meh.

Looks like its unanimous for the Blackberry Bold so far then, will let her know and keep you guys updated and hopefully try the two myself. I really appreciate all the advice, thanks everybody.

If she's into touchscreens...I heard they are working on a BB Storm for GSM networks.

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/...ckberry-storm/

It may not be out 'til 2025 though considering how everything from BB keeps getting delayed for some reason (uh, maybe to release a phone with less problems than the iPhone 3G when it was released?!?).

If there's a feature or program or something that I really wanted that necessitated jailbreaking, then yes, I'm open to it.

Why?

Look into intelliscreen. It will change your iphone e-mail world. This is coming from someone who was a hardcore BB e-mail user (corporate e-mail)

I tried the Blackberry Bold and it was nice. Had a leather backing which was kinda weird at first but I grew to like it.... added a touch of class to the phone. I guess I've been spoiled by the touch navigation of the iPhone, cause despite how clear the screen of the BB Bold is, its too small and scrolling isn't as friendly as I'd like... pretty much the same things my sister thought of the phone. All else aside I liked the phone but haven't tried the Touch Pro yet but she said it was kinda thick.

thanks mrdeeno for all your help. I let her know about the Storm (she'd actually heard of it already) and sorry if I confused you guys.... my sister needs a physical QWERTY keypad, but she likes having a touchscreen in addition to QWERTY for web surfing purposes. That's why she likes the Touch Pro (touchscreen + QWERTY) vs. the Touch HD (touchscreen, but no QWERTY)

Wow...i never really investigated all the stuff available for a jailbroken iphone.

I'm going to see what else is out there and then consider jailbreaking. Any sites recommended for seeing what else is out there in the jailbroken world?

Not really, but places like Howard Forums is a good source to see what's popular and how good things are.

There are website like this

http://www.appsafari.com/category/software/?sort=top

Which ranks apps in general, but they are to be taken with a grain of salt.

But you want to jailbreak man, there is really no reason not to.

Which BB? Are you talking about the Bold or older generations?

Just got the HTC Touch Pro, now both the Touch Pro and Blackberry Bold are in my hands, so I'll check them out when I have time. My sister can't decide so she's putting it on me, just like when she couldn't decide on a car.

Well after a few minutes of playing around with both phones (both were test units if it matters) I decided I liked the BB Bold more. The browser seems more intuitive, even though I have an iPhone and I'm used to the touchscreen-style navigation. I don't give the iPhone enough credit - I've been spoiled by its Safari browser. Despite telling her all about the multimedia features on the Touch Pro, she seemed indifferent to them though she was interested in the fact that the BB had a 3.5mm plug on its side. The only gripe about the browser on the BB is that the scrolling is super slow, you have to drag the cursor all the way to the bottom of the screen, then it only moves it so much. Plus I like the ergonomics of the Bold more, the keypad seems more natural and tactile to use compared to the HTC. I like both but the Bold just seems friendlier to use.

Once again, thanks a lot guys. So many people voting for the BB definitely made the decision easier. I might jailbreak my iPhone if they don't give me a new one....

Leave it to the iPhone users, to come in and throw the iPhone in a HTC v BB comparison.

Which goes further on my belief that iPhone users are some of the most annoying mobile users ever.
