Best way to connect your Non-HDMI PC to your HDMI port TV

I don't have a HDMI port on my laptop (its 2 years old) and I want to connect it to my TV, what would be the best way? My TV has USB and HDMI ports. My laptop has the VGA (I think thats what you call it) and the USB ports.

Thanks.

The problem here is that the VGA port only carries video, not audio.

You can use this:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

You will need to find a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male cord to run from the headphone out on the laptop to the 3.5mm in on the converter. Radio shack should have this, although Monoprice may as well.

Depending on the size of the TV, it will probably look like crap.

Just use the VGA port, going from VGA to HDMI will only make the image worse. Also you should have a PC audio port that goes along with the VGA port. It's usually just a 3.5mm minijack port. You can pick one of those up for 60 cents at monoprice.

If your laptop is two years old, don't you have a DVI port?

If you do, you can get an adapter for DVI to HDMI allowing you to broadcast in high definition and then you'll only need to connect the audio.

I'm trying to decide whether or not I'm ok with having wires going through the middle of the room up to the TV or if I should go wireless.

That is a good recommendation, but will Apple TV let me use my TV as a big monitor if I want to? I see it has functionality for music, movies etc on my laptop.

I doubt it. It basically acts as a portal to your files rather than extending your operating system's desktop.

To be fair, VGA will do what you want, it just won't look as sharp as DVI or HDMI.
