Best laptop under $1K?
So I'm in the market for a new laptop and I'm looking to keep the price at or under $1K. I currently have a DELL Inspiron with a 17" screen and I've been happy with it; it's about 6 years old and it seems to be on its way out. The problem is I am not too familiar with which brands are "good" and what to look for/not look for so I have no idea where to start looking.
I more than likely will not be using it for more than the internet and Microsoft Office, and maybe Photoshop whenever I decide I want to learn it. I would prefer to stay away from Apple as I have had a Macbook and I am much more comfortable using Windows. So what are my options? Thanks in advance for the help. |
This is just to give you an idea, you can get a nice powerhouse for 1K.

Thanks for the link, Tekno.
Anybody else? |
seems like overkill if you're just web browsing
|
...So do you have a suggestion?

Asus Transformer prime.
Or ANY of the ASUS lappy tops that are sub $1k. the Asus line has some pretty good specs. |

He gave the amount, lol :D
Of course you can go cheaper =] I'd go to best buy, sometimes they have awesome deals...sometimes.. search hp / dell coupons.. you can save 30%.. |
^i just like to take advantage of their no interest credit card purchases over a certain amount.
|
I'm looking to build my own or buy a prebuilt computer because I'm lazy and was also told about cyberpowerpc.com. I looked into it and found out that a lot of people say their customer service is shit and sometimes the system comes already broken or loose in the shipping box.

Post in this forum and ask:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/what...-should-i-buy/ If you want to build/customize your own these two sites are pretty good at it: http://www.gentechpc.com/system_dept.asp?dept_id=SD-013 http://www.xoticpc.com/ Sager and Clevo are as barebones as you can get for laptops as they're the rebranded Dells and other manufacturers. Also, I believe GentechPC has a 10% discount if you have a student ID. |
Thanks for the responses. After doing some research I think I'm going to go with the Toshiba Satellite. Now I just have to decide between the L750 and P750.
|
Based on the uses I listed (Internet, MS Office, Email, iTunes), would it be worth the extra $100 or so to get an i5 processor over an i3?
I've decided on the P750 series so now it's just between the i3 and i5. |
:ugh: Toshiba comes with a shit ton of crapware
|
For your use I'd rather have the i3 and put in an SSD drive than an i5 without SSD. Standard laptop drives are the suck.

If it comes with a bunch of stuff I don't need then I assume I can just remove all of it, right? |

Can you elaborate on this?
If it comes with a bunch of stuff I don't need then I assume I can just remove all of it, right? Yes, you can remove them manually or with a program like PC Decrapifier. How much is the P series Toshiba going for? Best Buy's having a sale on an 15.6" Asus with Intel i5 tomorrow for $450. Asus Model: K53E-BBR15, SKU: 4854891 If you want to save $ and are set on a i3, there's a 14" Dell going on sale at Staples tomorrow for $350. SKU: 423370, Model: i14RN-1227B |
Toshiba adds so much of their own worthless software. If you don't want to deal with crap ware then get a Microsoft Signature PC, it comes crapware free and comes with Microsoft Security Essentials installed.
Pretty much any laptop on the microsoft store should be a "signature" PC http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/...tPicks_Laptops |
Well, from what I've read, bloatware really isn't a big issue. It can be fairly easily removed.
The biggest thing for me is speed and quality. I don't want to have to buy a new laptop a few years from now because it shit the bed. Toshiba seems to be a quality computer. |
I reccomend Asus, stay away from HP
