My macbook pro is my central computer.
My iPad...well I never use it since moving to a Plus size iPhone, so its for my kids to occasionally plays games.
My iPhone...my lifeline for work, my reader, my music player in the car, nav system, etc.
My Apple TV... The main piece of my home theater for watching movies, etc
My Apple Watch...my fitness tracker for my workouts, also nice when at work and I don't want to be obvious and pull my phone out on set to read a message/email.
The Alexa...some speaker you talk to because you can't be bothered to read the news, flip a light switch or change your own thermostat...oh and it can play music but honestly, how good is the speaker? Bet its no where near as good as the Sonos...which links to my iPhone.
People might like it, it might "work" but its over all purpose right now is widely underused. I just renovated and redid my condo...yeah, I wanted to go home kit...but fuck if I'm paying $50+ per light switch, among other expensive crap. Plus I'm already invested in the Nest and not paying another few hundred to get a thermostat I can control with another device other than my phone.
And I have the feeling a lot of people feel that way. Its a device for the privileged or a gimmick for those who enjoy tech.

Tear down of the newest iMac reveals removable RAM and....removable processor.
That is certainly interesting.

glad to see Apple doing something serious again with the iMac Pro.
It is curious if they are also going to do a Mac Pro next year, what's that going to cost, $10k?

If the iMac pro does everything it says. Topped out will be well over 10k.
At at this time there is no need for a Mac Pro.

also the low end 27" iMac does support 64GB of ram even thou Apple doesn't offer a 64GB option for it. Only the mid and high end have the option.

Gotta agree that it is gimmicky but I do love the ability to control our home via SmartThings and Alexa with voice. My wife thought it was silly but she now asks Alexa to turn on lights in the kitchen when her hands are dirty or to turn on outdoor lighting while in the hot tub or pool. The only wish I have for her is the ability to google things.
Something we could def live without but I personally can justify Alexa way more so then an Apple Watch.

That's the rumor. Apple clearly missed the mark with the trash can mac and then let it sit there for way too long.

It's not a rumor, Apple themselves announced they're working on a new Mac Pro.

$700. Worth it? For my gf. She used to do video on her work Pro but changed positions so they took it back. Can the Air handle video processing stuff out of curiousity?

I'm tempted by the $399 9.7" iPad Pro

$700 is a fair price for this early 2015 model. Refurbished through Apple is $809.
I have yet to see it less than $700 new. Best Buy and Microcenter routinely sell it for this price (both did last month), so Best Buy calling this a "Black Friday in July" sale is a bit misleading. Black Friday prices should be lower than any prior sale price, IMO.

I can 100% confirm this story.
I have a mid-2012 retina and my battery life is toast. 1016 cycles with 50% capacity left. After reading this story I decided what the hell and went to the Apple store and got on the stand by list...only took 15 minutes of an estimated 1.5 hours ....they tested the battery, it was junk...started setting up the replacement protocol and boom...he got a message saying there was no supply and offer the customer a newer and equivalent machine for the same cost as the battery replacement ($199)
So, someone from corporate is supposed to call me in the next 24-48 hours to go over how it will happen and tell me what I will get. Some people have reported they are getting refurb 2015 models, and others and saying they are getting new 2017 models.
For $199...I don't care what they decide to give me. A virtually new machine for $199 is fantastic. Apple Rocks!

I got a whole new display/logic board for said laptop about to be replaced, out of warranty because apple had a known issue with them and extended coverage. I'm guessing these first gen retinas have become just a bit of a problem child for apple. but nothing was catastrophic.

Yeah fingers crossed, but if they back out...oh well. I'm no worse for wear.
Whats is amazing is the people on macrumors lashing out at the site itself. What entitled twats. This has apparently been going on since March...and was going to end any day now anyway. And nothing is ruined for anyone. Bitches.

Yea I saw that too. For all we know it could've been a coincidence that it happened to end today.
