^Lol.

For those who are interested in the ASUS Ice Cube Live Wallpaper, there's a thread on XDA with modified images. They changed it to different kinds like beer with lime, black and white ice cubes, rubber ducky, stout beer, root beer float and a bunch of other ones in the thread:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=14547520

Just install it just like any other APK. Root not required. Should also work on other Honeycomb tablets. Here's an example of the rubber ducky Live Wallpaper:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6ySU-KuiAY

The water level depletes when your battery goes down so it serves as a background plus a battery indicator. Like all Live Wallpapers, it shouldn't really have that much of an effect on your battery unless you stare at it all day. lol.

For people who have phones that have the 800x480 resolution (Most phones 4" and above that aren't qHD screens), there's a thread that ported these same live wallpapers for phones:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1144396

Check out the whole thread as there are different modified versions of the Live Wallpaper in different posts besides the first post.

My best friend is legally blind. iPhone has really great built in settings for him but he's in Sprint. His wife has an EVO but a Epic 4G or something with a keyboard might make more sense. I couldn't find anything at the XDA forum for the EVO regarding visually impaired. Have you guys heard of anything?

I think what your friend needs is access to the Android Accessibility settings. Its been there since Donut (Android 1.6) as far as I remember and built into Android so every Android phone has it. You just need to turn it on in the settings menu. Here is one app called TalkBack which would be very useful:

https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result

Another is Kickback:

https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result

There's a few others but I haven't really used it. Also, Android's implementation of Voice control is one of the best so that should help a lot. Here's one app that specifically caters for the blind but costs $98:

Check this site out for more info regarding Accessibility and which phone is preferred:

http://eyes-free.googlecode.com/svn/...ess/index.html

Here is their YouTube vids demoing Accesibiliy settings:

http://www.youtube.com/user/EyesFreeAndroid

Also take a look at the Evo Shift 4G if you're interested in a keyboard for Sprint. Its basically an Evo with a keyboard.

It should be business as usual since Motorola will be kept as a separate company. Andy Rubin already went on record saying that Motorola won't be getting any special treatment when it comes to Android. They'll still have to follow the same protocols when being selected as the Nexus device, etc.

We have this lead device strategy, that strategy has worked quite well to help focus the team. What we do is select, around Christmas time each year, a manufacturer that we work very closely with to release a device in that timeframe, and that includes also some essential companies and all the components that go into the device. And essentially all the teams huddle together in one building, they jointly work and these development efforts go on for 9-12 months, and ultimately at the holiday season or right before it the devices pop out that are based on this effort.
Source: http://www.slashgear.com/andy-rubin-...k-in-15171702/

The buy out was to protect Android and its partners from the patent suits popping up everywhere and that was their ultimate reason for getting Motorola considering they did invent the cell phone.

btw, i officially hate my verizon fascinate now.

it reboots itself pretty randomly everyday. my car hates this phone for some reason as the bluetooth doesn't work every once in awhile. my call doesn't go through a lot of times. sometimes i answer the phone and i can't hear anything. I call up the customer service, and they say they can't do shit about it.

can't wait for next september to come, so i can break this phone with some sledgehammer or something. i'm not going to sell this thing as it's POS.

God, I hate this phone so much.

Try CyanogenMod 7 or even MIUI. They're starting to get a good backing from the CyanogenMod team.

Lots of Android news going on today. Bad day for FusionGarage to be releasing details about their JooJoo 2 since no one's talking about it. Samsung hired Steve Kondik a.k.a. the creator of CyanogenMod.

HTC’s bootloader unlocking tool isn’t the only big news in the Android hacking scene today. The founder and lead developer of CyanogenMod, Steve Kondik, added “Samsung mobile” to his Facebook profile, effectively announcing that the company has hired the man we fondly know as “Cyanogen.” Kondik implies in the comments on his post that he’ll continue working with CyanogenMod as a “side project” — a project which is “not affiliated in any way” with Samsung. That’s not to say that Samsung isn’t unfriendly to the community — in addition to hiring Kondik the company has previously sent free phones to the CyanogenMod team.

CyanogenMod is amongst the most popular ROM packages for Android devices because of its stability, support for multiple platforms, speed, and support from both the CyanogenMod team and the community-at-large. That’s on top of the capacious list of enhancements to stock Android that the team has put together in the latest build. We certainly wouldn’t mind seeing that kind of expertise applied to Samsung devices — we’re looking at you, TouchWiz.
Source: http://thisismynext.com/2011/08/15/s...-steve-kondik/

I'm really surprised Google didn't hire him first. Good move for Samsung.

MIUI is supposed to be releasing details about their upcoming phone in the next couple of hours which will go on sale soon. MIUI will become open sourced once that happens and it will be based on CyanogenMod as usual. Specs known so far is that it'll have a Qualcomm 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, and a 4" 480x854 resolution screen made by Sharp.

Oh man, very good move from Samsung. This is an excellent move because there are TONS of Cyanogen followers and this would definitely boost the chance of Cyanogen's followers to buy a Samsung phone.

I'm not sure if it'll get sold here in the states. Steve Jobs would have an aneurysm if that happened. lol. Apple would be firing a lawsuit and most likely win considering that MIUI is pretty similar to iOS. With that said, I believe MIUI Android and the many other MIUI affiliated sites are planning to sell them outside of China so they can bypass that issue. Specs wise, the phone is great and is only missing a Front Facing Cam which most people don't really use. For $350 though, the phone is a steal.

Better source from MIUI Android regarding availability and everything else:

http://miuiandroid.com/2011/08/mi-one-faqs/

1. The phone is called MI-ONE.

2. The MI-ONE will be sold primarily in China, there is currently no confirmed plans for distribution outside of China. We will obviously be looking to work in partnership with Xiaomi (if they wish to) to bring this device to other countries in a orgnanised way. The device needs to sell well in China first, one step at a time.

3. The devices seen at todays news release where NOT the final product, they are the engineering samples.

4. The phone does NOT appear to have a Front-Facing-Camera (FFC) as previously thought. Our apologies for the false post on that spec. The MI-ONE does however have a 8MP rear facing camera.

5. The price is currently 1999 Yuan, or 350 USD / 340 GBP / 330 EU (approx) not forgetting import taxes and other possible charges for shipment from China if a method becomes available.

Specs of the phone:

http://miuiandroid.com/2011/08/mi-one-specifications/

Hardware:

- Unlocked bootloader!
- Android 2.3.5 pre-loaded (MIUI ROM)
- Sharp capacitive 4 inch screen at 480 x 854 res 16:9
- Dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S3 (MSM8260)
- 4GB ROM
- 1GB RAM
- Up to 32GB Micro-SD card support
- 8MP Rear Camera
- Noise-cancelling microphone
- 1930mAH battery! +30% on standard 1500mAH
- GPS (U.S. GPS and Russian GLONASS
- Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth connectivity
- 266MHz Adreno220 GPU
- 125 * 63 * 11.9 (mm)
- GSM / WCDMA bands

Other specs:

- x3 Capacitive touch buttons (Menu, Desktop, Back key)
- Side USB (micro) port
- Volume button (side)
- Powerbutton (side)
- MI-Button (Customisable button for application of your choice)
- 149g weight

Accessories:

- Interchangable back covers in variety of different colours. (currently 7 with more to follow)
- Other “MI” Accessories to be launched such as phone stand.

Price set at ¥1999

you're right. I read october in the endgadget article and just assumed the US. Didn't even think about Steve Jobs or that it would need to be picked up by a US carrier and licensed. With Steve Kondik working for Samsung now, I'm sure we'll see some kind of CM phone in the future.

Well this MIUI phone is pretty much a CM phone which is whats so great about it. MIUI is basically CM with a skin, albeit, a functional one but if someone wanted to build just CM for it, they practically could. It'll also get updates immediately since CM/MIUI builds off AOSP so as soon as Google releases those source codes, it'll get the newest builds right then and there at the same time as Nexus phones, if not faster since they won't have to deal with carriers distributing the updates.

Yes CM7 and the multiple devs on XDA are a godesend. I was hoping Google would've hired Steve but Samsung made a good move and they usually have the best hardware outside of the plasticness of the phone bodies. Hopefully, Steve can fill in the software part for them. Exciting times ahead and looking forward to Ice Cream Sandwich.

Go crazy in this XDA thread and a few others scattered on XDA:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824656

Also, depending on which Launcher you're using (CM uses ADW by default, which he updated today to support Honeycomb), they have their own set of icons found in the market. Some free, some paid.

For the people with Honeycomb tablets, I came across this tip regarding the Power Control Toggles in your notification widget like the TouchWiz UX:

You can get it using Widgetsoid or Extended Controls:
