Interesting........ with the reports of cities that T-Mobile are launching their LTE service in coming out, there might finally be a real reason to root the Nexus 4 just to revert back to the 4.2.1 radios and take advantage of Band 4.

Well, and also switch to T-Mobile. Though I wonder if their $30 a month plan will actually let you use LTE unlimited.

I'm kinda confused about T-Mo's plans... I'm coming into town next week (Los Angeles) but only for a week this time, and I understand T-Mo has daily plans... for $3/day (or cheaper with more limitations)... So, it'll be about $21 but for there's something for $30?

Not sure if you already figured this out but yes it does work for everything in the Play Store. Would be nice if it worked on the website as well since we can install/uninstall from the website.

Nice! How much did you get the unit for? Wish the TSX had a double din without breaking climate control. Its been a while since I've looked for one but I don't think there is one available for it. Any pics?

Crutchfield has it for $399 with free android connection kit and pioneer has $120 mail in rebate, so $279 after everything.

ARLiberator is a must though. This radio would suck without it.

What are you guys using to back up your contacts? I don't have a laptop right now for personal use so I need an online option. I don't think the SIM saves all the data of a contact and I'm sure there's an app that's much friendlier.

Sync it to Google Contacts. It backs up everything so if you ever lost you phone all you need to do is log into your GMail account and it restores it. You can also manage every contact on their website: www.google.com/contacts

On your Note II, Open up the Contacts app on your phone, hit Menu --> Export Contacts to csv. Open up www.google.com/contacts On the bottom left, click on Import Contacts. Also, when you first add a New Contact in TouchWiz, it asks if you want to save it to your phone or your GMail account, choose your GMail account. From then on, it'll save all your phone numbers to your Google Contacts.

If you're coming from your iPhone, sync your contacts to GMail and it should automatically pull those contacts straight to your phone once you've logged in.

The new Google+ update is really nice. Looks very similar to the Google Now card appearance and it now plays gifs in profile pics. I think the iOS version got Snapseed integration. Not sure why they're requiring Android users to install the app separately. I'm guessing KLP will have Snapseed built into the Gallery app.

Okay. So, I'm trying to transfer my photos in my Note2 to my desktop computer (windows 7).

But the phone wouldn't connect to the computer for some reason.

What can I do? This is crap.

Its a Windows 7 issue with their MTP drivers...You will need to have to update the MTP drivers via Device Manager or if you have Windows Update set up to look for drivers automatically it should do it for you when you connect the phone. Look to see if you have any driver updates in Windows Update while the phone is plugged in.

Windows 7 and MTP is a mess. If all else fails, you could use a MicroSD reader and just hotswap that way. There is no need to turn off the phone to remove/reinstall the MicroSD.

I am so confused about the 'new' T-Mobile plans... there are 2 plans that are exactly the same price and choices, but are called different names, then there are the newly renamed prepaid plans, and then another set of plans for non corporate stores and another line for non phones.....

Brain hurts trying to figure them out. Think I'll just not move to T-Mobile and save the energy.

...so, earlier today, I went up to 2 enemy portals and noticed that both were rather weak and would be easy to destroy. One of them only had 2 resonators and the other had 4. I got close to the weakest resonators and started firing XMPs... meanwhile, noticed the other portal that had only 4 resonators before now had 7 and is almost full. I'm thinking to myself "WTF?? Could there be an Enlightened player here, right now in the vicinity??" I looked around and sure enough, I spotted him... and a few seconds later, he looked up and most likely figured me out. Yeah, it was awkward

Lol. I haven't really looked into all of the details from what I saw you save a good amount if you bring your own device which would be great for the Nexus lines and maybe the upcoming Moto X phone. If you're gonna buy their phones, its still cheaper with them but not as much since you have to pay off the phone back in the 24 months. I think the advantage all around is that there is no contract either way so you can get out any time you want and just pay off the rest of the phone if you haven't finished paying it off.

Yeah that's if you bring your own device. If you buy one of their phones, add $20 per month for 24 months + $99 down payment. Still not a bad deal considering its unlimited and unthrottled unlike the other carriers.

That's pretty funny. I haven't seen any one while I've been playing yet but I know they're around cause XM's around my area get taken up and the portals I used to charge are always charged now.

That's true, except that right now every other carrier's ETF fee is a lot cheaper than the full cost of a phone that T-Mobile will force you to pay when you want to get out.

Also, I find it fascinating that people are touting the whole installment plan as a great accomplishment, when it is the exact same thing as a subsidized price included in a 2 year contract.

I still don't think T-Mobile will even move into the #3 spot with their new carrier plans. Fact is, Americans love to upgrade their phone at least every 2 years, and staying in a 2 year contract is easier than having to figure out the monthly plans even if they set it up automatically. For most people, upgrading every 2 years is a normal thing and as such, the whole paying extra for subsidized phones is actually worthwhile and being used properly. Unless you keep a phone forever, the T-Mobile new plans aren't that attractive. Gotta do more than change your pricing to change the industry. Gotta start with people first... and if anyone can get people (not internet tech blogs educated) to listen to them explaining monthly no contract installment non subsidized difference with ETF full price of phone plans, then that person will be the next Ghandi.

we dont really tether a lot, well my dad does so thats why he wants it. He said we dont even get close to our 2gb so we'll be fine either way. I dunno, I dont care for that reason right now. Since I'm at school, apt or home when I used most of the data I'm on wifi either way.

I should clarify that its just throttled after the limit, not charged. And I think my ROM has something that stops the throttling. IF it does then score for me

Yes and no. This really depends on whether you got the phone when it was brand new or you got it on one of their sales. The ETF is reduced based on how long you've been on contract with the carrier because you've been practically paying for it those months you were with them. So in a sense its the same thing that's going on with the new T-Mobile plans but the T-Mobile plans are still cheaper considering the service plans start at a lower price and then you'll go back to just the service price once you've paid off the device in full.

T-Mobile's new plans are a little different from a contract because once you've paid off the phone in full, your monthly plan goes back down to the service plan price only. In a contract plan, once the 2 years are up, your service price stays the same as if you bought the phone with it. You could also pay off the phone as fast as you want and take advantage of a new phone once you've paid off the previous phone any time instead of waiting for the 2 years to end. Also, each phone will be priced differently so the price of paying off the phone will vary in the amount of months they require to pay it all back.

This is where they'll have problems. The plans are kinda hard to decipher but the majority of people would be saving tons of money switching to this plan. Most people are too caught up with the initial price instead of the long term price even though they're getting ripped off in the long term. Also, phone discounts will probably disappear with T-Mobile. They probably won't be doing any more buy one get one free phones in the future. Maybe a slight $100 off discount or something.

Just found out you can't use your Google Play Credit if its less than the item you want to purchase. I have $0.96 left over and I have to add credit (minimum of $5) to use it. Too bad you can't just subtract from whatever you're trying to buy and pay off the rest with a regular credit card. Hopefully they do another $0.10 or $0.25 soon.

OK, so PDANet+ is currently broken on Verizon (JellyBean) due to a Verizon update to block it. Anyone know of alternatives or a timeframe to a workaround from PDANet?

I really dont understand how a carrier can be allowed to prevent me from using the data, especially since they sold me the data throughput and charge me for overages...

It uses Bluetooth instead of WiFi though. Its better on the battery but throughput will be slightly lower than WiFi.

If that doesn't work then you would probably need to root to WiFi tether. I'm sure USB tethering will work just fine without root though.

I looked at OG and found two issues:

1. it does not discriminate. Anyone can connect. It creates a cloud of access that you can either contribute to or share from without discrimination.
2. it tries to always stay running on the broadcast device (phone) and appears on its own regularly. I uninstalled it for those reasons...

Except that general ETF fees on Vzw and Att start at about $350 regardless of phone's original price. With T-Mobile, you'll have to pay the original full price of the phone at anytime, which 99% of the time is more than $350.

I know, but you've got to think about it from the general public's perspective and not the theoretical side. Most people upgrade their phones every 2 years, and thus the whole pay a lesser monthly payment does not really do anything for the majority. Sure it works great for people who love changing their phone every year or once every comet attack, but like I said earlier, you gotta change the mindset of the entire country before changing the plans. Ask just about anyone in the US and they all say iphones cost $199 or cheaper. They don't know the truth and thus will not care for T-Mobile's change, even more telling will be that no general person wants to pay $649 for a phone even when they learn about it. They would rather stick with the normalized 2 year contract and upgrade.

If saving people money on monthly payments was the solution to changing the US carrier plans/people's mentality then it would have happened by now. Just look at all the pre-paid mvnos out there. T-Mobile's new plans still cannot compete with them and are trying to do the same thing except that they have pink all over while seeking profits. Get AT&T's coverage and speeds for $45 a month on Straight Talk still beats T-Mobile's lack of coverage and high prices.


Why not just get Plants vs. Zombies along with the rest of the Android Humble Bundle games and pay whatever price you want.....even a penny?

I dont think you get it still. For T-mobile you will have to pay the original full price of the phone, but that could be $200 or that could be $500. It really depends when you decide to leave. Then theres also the fact that you could sell the phone so its not a huge loss either. So in the end I'm sure you'll get most of your money back. And its a much much better deal.

Also you're acting like every phone is $650 and that every consumer has a $650 phone. Look at you for instance. You have a $350 phone that you bought off of the play store and yet in your plan with ATT? You're still paying for the subsidized cost of a phone! You would have saved so much more money on tmobile since you wouldn't have to pay for that cost.

Now the market where people buy a $650 phone and upgrade every two years, its basically the same whether you're on tmobile or ATT.

But then there's all the people that buy used phones, unlocked phones, non high end phones. So I think they did make a move in the right direction. And I also think they will be a bigger threat to carriers. Any publicity is good publicity right?
