Holy shit! That's impressive.

I also wouldn't buy a Samsung though, been burned by them too many times. I've never gone more than 8 months without wanting to go full-Office Space on my Samsungs

My ex worked in information security and badgered me about that shit, and now my current company is super strict on it, so... yeah gotta take it seriously. You don't use a VPN at home?

I rarely use my computer at home. Only my phone to stream Youtube. So no VPN at home.

You are so hard to please...
I think all of my phones have been Samsung ... the only gen i skipped was the explosive one
But i think they are getting too expensive for a freaking phone that probably only last 1.5 years.

I'm just a bitter old man.

I hate Samsung for now, if I got another one and it ended up being a piece of crap in half a year I would hate myself

If I spending that much on something that will only last a year or so, it better be amazing. Or at least have some kind of longevity.

Once new Verizon account is set up, port out the new Verizon phone # they give you to H2O Wireless later that day or the next day. Once that's done, take out sim card from your current (AT&T?) phone and put it into Pixel 3, and done.

Actually, since Pixel 3 is unlocked it will work on all carriers -- Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint, and any one of the MVNOs.
Ohhh ok. I missed that last part of the H20 sim.

So I'm thinking to swap out my two year old Moto Z Play; not because it doesn't do anything I want it to do, and not because I hate having a three to four day battery life, but because the last Security Update was from August 2018. Annoying.

I've been torn between springing for a Pixel 3, or saving a bit of money and going with a OnePlus 6T, or saving a bit more money and joining the Android One world in the form of a Nokia 7.1. For the moment at least, I'm leaning toward the Nokia.

If we're serious about keeping Huawei out of the infrastructure, then 5G in North America is still a couple of years out.

T-Mobile had to promise no Huawei to get the merger with Sprint PCS, and their 5G is some kind of Band 71/600 implementations that I don't really understand yet.

Ok hopped on this deal. Sick of my Moto G6 freezing for like 2 seconds while simply typing letters. Phone is 3 years old man.

Few questions that I posed at SD. Appreciate the help @@AZuser

I plan to port out and will transfer my sim from my Moto G6 after the phone is unlocked. I'll get the phone tonight but can't get H2O sim card until tomorrow.

- Should I turn on the phone tonight and activate it?
- If I set it up while using my current Google account info will it screw up my G6 because I technically can't use the Pixel (with my current number) until I get the H20 sim tomorrow.

no. you'll just have two phones with the same google account.
meaning; if you have alarms set; the alarm will still activate on the old phone...and since google doesnt need "LTE" to be set up, you will receive emails and other apps that just need wifi.

my family always forgets to turn off the old phone and then just sticks it into a drawer...
The alarms set get annoying!!!
then i gotta go diggin for the phone and hopefully no password to shut off alarm

1) phone is being activated on new Verizon account, so phone will likely get turned on by sales rep during set up process to make sure it works. You really don't need to worry about question #1

2) Technically, you could swap in your AT&T sim into the Pixel 3 the moment you get it and use it right away. Phone # is tied to sim card, not device. The reason you want to port out the new Verizon phone # (within 3 days) to H20 (you can actually port out to any non-Verizon carrier) is so the Verizon account gets closed and you don't have to pay for the full month of Verizon service plan or the $30 activation fee.

Follow the Community Wiki in the SD thread. It has all the important details like registering for a My Verizon online account so you can manage everything.

It's not listed in the Wiki, but in the past, I always suspended Verizon service 1st (with reduced billing) before porting number out as an extra precaution to not get charged full month of service plan. https://www.verizonwireless.com/arti...eless-service/

So if you want to use the Pixel 3 right away, suspend Verizon service, then swap sims, and you should be good. Then port out when you get a chance. But remember it must be done within 3 days to avoid $30 activation fee.

I also read that most Best Buys are out of stock on the $1 H2O sim, so you'll probably have to get it at Target for $1.99

.

i have not done a lot of research on this.. actually i didnt even know how far ahead Huawei is in the 5G implementation until their COO was arrested in Canada
It just seems to me all of this is a bargaining chip for Trump to use with China, which is fine. But at the end, the US consumers are still going to be left behind in 5G.

I would not be surprised if 1 day we woke up and a trade deal has been signed and Huawei is all of a sudden a good company in the US (See North Korea for example)

Still don't even have Gigabit ethernet in the Silicon Valley, FFS. Comcast claims "Gigabit" speeds on one of their newer routers but my buddy only gets 350 Mbps, tops

I don't know too much about it, but 5G seems like it will take a lot more infrastructure.

If China beats us to 5G, then we'll have to beat them to 6G

Yah i will laugh at whoever buy this first gen Samsung 5G phone because they will have the phone without any use for it and when the 5G becomes available, S10 5G is outdated already... probably S13 should be out by then.

I got approved for a Debit Redcard last week but haven't received the card. Can I pay with it if I give him the number? I'd love to get the 5% cash back.

OMG Thanks for the tip on suspending the service. That's a great idea. I'll just do that and not worry about rushing to get the sim tomorrow. I literally got the last one in Miami from Best Buy. But if Target has it, I'll just buy theirs for $1 more.

EDIT - I was able to order the H2O sim at the same Target so saved me a trip. Also I paid with my Redcard #.

Got to my "reservation", mobile tech guy not around. Electronics employee told me guy was gone as they have different hours. Caught a guy walking in at 7:45 with a tech shirt and he was the mobile guy. New guy so he couldn't ring up my phone Have to go back today. Luckily got my Redcard when I got home so at least 5% of $350 is like $17 I save.

I went to pick up the phone from my reservation but the rep had no idea how to process it and told me to go back next day. Now they're saying they have to repull my credit which I've confirmed was pulled the first time on Equifax. Is this BS? I can't get anyone from Target to answer since mobile tech is separate.

Either they're incompetent, or they're aware of people taking advantage of the deal and don't want to do it/make it a PITA for the customer because if you cancel service within the 3 day period and don't pay for activation or full month of service, the rep gets no credit (commission?) for the sale. My guess is it's the latter.

Very impressed with reports of S10 benchmarks so far.

Doesn't surpass A12 performance, but surprisingly close!!

Def incompetence. Rep there wants the kid from yesterday fired. Took him 2 hours but he was nice enough to swap out the first phone because it had pixel damage at the corner by the battery indicator that I could barely see. Most reps wouldn't check that closely. Pixel damage, ironic indeed.

Wow phone to phone copy is really freaking cool. SD cards. At least we have auto backup to Google but not the same quality. Camera is amazing. Took some dark pics. What lack of light?

Mobile World Congress Barcelona underway. Huawei just introduced their Mate X (foldable 5G smartphone).

Price? €2,299, or (currently) $2,607.42 USD

Jump to 5:10 mark if you just want to see Mate X intro in 1st video

I was literally just a couple of hours away from pulling the trigger on a new OnePlus 6T when I heard Google announced a limited time $200 discount on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL; I just ordered the 64GB version for $699 directly from the Google Store; it will ship tomorrow!

Plus if you're a hacker the Verizon version has a locked bootloader. Not everyone likes spending 2 hours at Target either

Speaking of Pixel 3, so far I am not impressed. Now the camera is amazing but meh as a phone so far. This battery, I can't deal with. My old Sammy's and even the shitty, bigger screened Moto G6 I had lasted all day....at least initially. Yesterday barely lasted 13 hours. Supposedly the battery needs a few cycles to "figure it out". The customization features are nothing of Samsung either which I figured would be competitive as a flagship phone. Sure I can get Nova or something but then I'd kill the battery faster. Worst case I flip this for a profit but no idea what to get next.

One of the big reasons why I needed to get a new phone, even though my 2017 vintage Moto Z Play still works great, is with my new gig I need to have a phone which gets regular security updates. My Moto Z Play got it's last security update in August of last year, so scratch that phone, and while I'm on the subject, scratch pretty much any phone which isn't an iPhone (yuk, no thanks), a Pixel, or any phone which is part of the Android One program (the U.S. market for One lags the rest of the world; the best we can buy here is the Nokia 7.1). So, while I have zero need for lots of the bells and whistles of the Pixel 3 XL I bought yesterday (much less the immense bloat of any Samsung offering), I have a heavy reliance on monthly security updates.

Side comment #1: the one thing I'm going to miss about my Moto Z Play is the three to four day battery life.

Side comment #2: I'm surprised the Android One program hasn't gotten more mention in this thread; given how this support model is designed, I'm thinking a huge percentage of the Android market here in the U.S. will be Android One within the next few years.

What's a good message board for the Pixel 3? Seemed Reddit and XDA weren't as active as I'd hoped.

Anyone have suggestions for a good screen protector for the Pixel2? The one I have seems to have the "oil slick" effect more prominently than I want...

Ok there was a system update that I wasn't notified on. I'm used to other phones screaming at me to update ASAP. Installed it and as of now from a 6:30 disconnection the battery is at 75% for fairly typical usage. Hoping this helps.

Loving the squeeze for Assistant feature. Didn't think I'd use it but haven't squeezed something so much for answers since.....NVM. The phone is zippy too which I love. Just work damn it which the Moto couldn't hack. Call screener is a nifty feature also. Sure you shouldn't answer numbers you don't know, but I had one call me several times in a row so I knew it wasn't just a robocall. You can have it deliver a message to take you off their calling list. And I don't mean a text, a verbal one.

Got the new Pixel 3 XL today and was surprised the built-in Android copy routine does NOT copy SMS messages; anybody have any experience with the various tools out there which purport to perform the copy?

What phone are you coming from? I connected my old Pixel XL directly to my 3 XL, and everything copied over. However, I gave my girlfriend the old XL, and her Samsung S8 would not copy texts properly.

But, you can try SMS Backup & Restore. Root is not required.

Moving from a Moto Z Play to the Pixel 3 XL.
