Amazon Fire Stick / USB Power

Hi All,

Happy Cyber Monday!

I just took advantage of some of the online deals and got the Amazon Fire stick (2016 model) for $20 shipped. It seemed like a great deal, so why not.

I noticed you can simply plug into HDMI and then plug into USB on TV to power. This is certainly ideal as the TV is flat mounted and this would make it look perfect with no wires showing.

Does anyone have theirs setup in this fashion?

I saw a few mentions online of errors of not enough power and/or performance issues. Anyone experience this?

Any wear and tear on TV power supply?

Thanks!

I have a Chromecast that is plugged in the same fashion. I've never heard of it being a drain on a TV

I have mine set up like that in my kids playroom..... No issues, I've been running it like that for years, even my Chromecast was like that.

i used to have my CHromecast like that but sometimes the port doesn't power on when the TV isn't on or doesn't provide enough amperage so the stick has performance issues, that I can comment on. Since i use the Chromecast to turn on my TV via the HDMI-CEC protocol, I plug the Chromecast straight into the wall for best performance

I have a relatively new Samsung LED that does not provide enough power to the stick so I have to plug it in to the wall. In theory, you should have an outlet behind your mounted TV and not have the power cord running down the wall so I just plugged mine in there.
