Trade: Lakers get Pau Gasol
![Woot](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/woot.gif)
Kobe, Bynum, Odom and Gasol. The Lakers will be tough when Bynum comes back. Phil has to teach Pau how to play D though.

The Lakers have acquired forward-center Pau Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies for center Kwame Brown, guard Javaris Crittenton and a series of draft picks between the two teams, The Times has learned.
Gasol, 27, is averaging 18.9 points and 8.8 rebounds this season for the Grizzlies. He has expressed discontent in the past year with the Grizzlies (13-33) who have not been in playoffs since 2006 and have never won a playoff game since he was drafted in 2001.

Lakers acquire Gasol from Grizzlies
Posted: Friday February 1, 2008 2:52PM; Updated: Friday February 1, 2008 3:39PM
By Chris Mannix, SI.com
The Lakers have acquired Pau Gasol in a three-player trade with the Grizzlies, SI.com has confirmed.
The deal, which was first reported by the Memphis Commercial Appeal, sends Gasol to the Lakers for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton and first-round picks in 2008 and 2010.
The acquisition of Gasol gives the Lakers their first established low-post threat since they traded Shaquille O'Neal to Miami in 2004. Gasol averaged 18.9 points and 8.8 rebounds in 39 games with Memphis this season.
Gasol, a 7-footer, could fill in at center in place of Andrew Bynum, who is expected to miss at least another month with a knee injury. The Lakers are only 3-5 since losing Bynum, who is averaging 13.1 points and 10.2 rebounds and leads the NBA in field goal percentage.
When Bynum returns, the Lakers would be able to feature a frontcourt of Bynum at center, Gasol at power fowrard and 6-10 Lamar Odom at small forward.
Brown, the first pick in the 2001 draft, is making $9.1 million in the last year of his contract. Crittenton, the Lakers' first-round pick last June, has averaged 7.8 minutes in 22 games.

YA BABY!
Kobe, Bynum, Odom, GASOL, Fisher. Wow. And one of the most productive benches in the League. Great move Mitch.

Two first round picks and Javaris Crittenton, what a trade.

I've always been a Laker hater, but there is no doubt this is a great trade.
Pao > Kwame![Captain Obvious](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/captainobvious.gif)
Eventhough I've always loved Kobe (and Shaq), its hard for me to admit that I really don't actually hate the Lakers as much I used to. I am actually kind of looking forward to see how Pau fits in especially when Bynum gets back. *can't believe I'm even saying this*

I would trade dfish and someone else for kidd, I think farmar can handle 2nd string duty behind kidd:........
hopefully gasol can avoid injury like in the past...at least the rest of this season.

I'd more likely do it for Lamar, but I still think a 34 y/o point is a tough sell. For the $$ Kidd wants, I'm thinking Mitch and Buss wouldn't do it.

I don't think they'd trade for Kidd, but I wouldn't be surprised.

No way theyd retrade him... We got a gift from Jerry West , just like Kevin Mchale gave Boston a humongous Gift..
With Gasol, (and bynum healthy) it allows Lamar to be a big bitch and play the Small Forward spot.. Lamar is such a piece of shit sometimes..

Paul Pierce likes the trade for LA, he thinks you guys are a definite contender in the West...
hoping for a Boston-LA Finals... how sick would that be...

1st all, Paul Pierce wishes he was a laker.. Lol .. low blow..
But yea if he holds up his end of the deal and wins the East.. we'll have a Boston-LA short shorts rematch

Team Owner
A very good pick up for the Lake show but this doesn't guarantee them anything. It takes time to learn the triangle offense. The Lakers can certainly out-talent many of their opponents but when it comes to the playoffs they will be facing the creme-de-la-creme of the Western Conference, and not just one game at a time but for a multi game series. Defensively the other team will have studied, game planned, and made adjustments. In these situations is where the Lakers will need the triangle offense to be instinctive. Just knowing the basics won't get it done against the San Antonios and Dallases. The questions I need to ask are: 1. How well will Gasol learn the offense, 2) How well will the Lakers re-integrate Bynum and Ariza coming off of injuries heading into the playoffs, and how well will Pau integrate defensively.
