BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) - An Argentine soccer player was shot with a rubber bullet while he and several teammates tried to stop a riot involving opposing fans.
VIOLENCE AND CHAOS
San Martin player Carlos Ezcurra was in serious condition Monday after surgery on a damaged lung.
Ezcurra was shot by police during halftime of his team's second-division match against Mendoza rival Godoy Cruz on Sunday, according to authorities. Angry fans threw rocks onto the field and later started the riot.
The match was subsequently suspended with Godoy Cruz leading 3-0.
Authorities told independent news agency Diarios y Noticias that Ezcurra's life was not in danger but he would remain hospitalized
