PNC Park

Hey guys, I'm heading to Pittsburgh this week. Gonna catch a Pirates game. Any from the area have any advice on where I should sit or things I should do while there?

Thanks

For the price of tickets and the availability, you can sit pretty low for around $25. There really isn't a bad seat in the place. All of them give you great views of the city skyline, since the product on the field is absolutely horrible. How many days you staying? What are you looking to do?

I'm only going to be there Thurs - Sat.

What about Pirates Cove? Is it for little kiddies?

Also, I'm there for business, but will be with the girl, so any decent dinner places or bars to drink at would be appreciated.

Thank you

There is a restaurant downtown across the river from PNC Park called Eleven which is excellent. Could walk to the Park from it, although it is a little "Fancy". Another good restaurant in town is the Six Penn Kitchen. For more bar/casual restaurants you can go to the South Side "East Carson St". There are a ton of bars and restaurants over there. Pretty hard to find a bad place, range of food from sushi (Sushi Too) to steak (South Side Steaks) to burgers/wings (Fatheads). South side bars are kind of the "college" bars also so if you go there either Thursday or Friday night they will most likely be packed. Station Square also has alot of restuarants too, but these are mostly chains which I wouldn't bother with. Although if you choose to go to the South Side, you can park at Station Square and take the Gateway Clipper (Paddle Boat) over to PNC Park.

Shadyside also has some very good restaurants and bars but this is not in the downtown area. Pirates Cove is for the kiddies I believe. I know they have a play ground but am not sure if that is what they call it or not. Let me know if you want some more info as I don't know what part of town you are staying in.

Gorgeous stadium. You shouldn't have any trouble getting tickets, haha.

If you want to eat at the game, I heard there are "all you can eat" seats for pretty cheap.

http://travel.nytimes.com/2008/07/06...l/06hours.html here is a nice article.

I recommend lunch at the Primantis Bros. on the Strip (if you like sandwiches).

Also check out the incline up to Mt. Washington, great views of the city.

When I went back in 03 I parked across the bridge in the garage there for like $3. It was a short, scenic walk over one of the rivers. Unfortunately in my 9 mos there I never ate in Downtown. When I stayed at the Residence Inn across the main bridge, I frequented Quaker Steak for their wings.

Short scenic walk, unless you do it twice a day

I'll be the first to say it..

Please don't support the Pirates and pay for a ticket.

But if you've never been to PNC then it's worth a cheap ass ticket. Then get up and walk around. Walk back toward the river/city side. Up high. Go all over. The games aren't worth watching. Since PNC opened I've never sat in my seat more then 2 innings. And there's plenty of empty seats.

Not sure how long you're in town but try and catch a Pens preseason game. Visit Mellon Arena before it's torn down.

Yeah, it is cheaper to park downtown. But for Gibson visiting with his girl and going to the game, I am with Blackack and think the Clipper is the way to go. For $10 round trip per person, you will get a good view of the city from the river on your way over to the game and back. I'm not sure what parking at Station Square will run you, but I think it is around 5-10 dollars.
