good points. would you cause yourself bodily harm for a few million? don't know till you've been in that position. on the other hand, if u already have a few million, is it worth it for a few more?
If everyone's taking them though, then the effect gets washed out (since everyone has the boost). If half are/half aren't (which just might've been the case a couple years ago), you'd think the half that aren't would be very pissed that their losing money to cheaters. although not many ballplayers came out for drug testing (i know if i was clean, i'd want drug testing every week to make sure others aren't cheating).

as far as it not being against the rules until this year, i think the fact that its a federally banned substance supercedes baseball rules and made it not alloweable (just my guess though). i'm sure there's plenty of other rules that baseball is lacking but which baseball could punish players as breaking the law (for example, is there a baseball rule specifically disallowing ppl from stabbing each other off the field? i'm guessing not. but if it happenned i doubt the player would be allowed to play).

Very true. Steroids wouldn't get me to the Bigs, but it's probably the difference between toiling in Triple-A and getting to the Bigs for many, many players.

I want to believe that it wasn't anabolic steriods. I want to believe it was some kind of performance enhancement drug like ephedra that was banned last year because of the death of a pitcher. He really cannot be that nieve to take any suspicious substance knowing he made that emphatic statement over the summer.

I heard a story that an NFL player is sueing the maker of some protein bar because he got suspended and says the protein bar had a banned substance (a pro-hormone I think) in it and it was not written on the label.

I'll look into this more & see if i can get a name and confirm this.

The reason this whole steroids thing is a big deal is there's an estimated 500,000 high school and college kids taking steroids because they see all the older guys do it and it's becoming a major health concern. And for a dad to have to explain to his 10 yr old kid what a steroid is, that's horrible.

They quoted some source on the radio this morning as saying that it was "the bad kind" of steroids.

Synthetic steroid technology tends to be ahead of the testing technology. It usually takes a while for the tests to catch up with the types, but when it does you get stories like this.

Looks like he got caught with the really bad stuff.

Rafael Palmeiro tested positive for the potent anabolic steroid stanozolol, the same substance Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson of Canada took in 1988, The New York Times reported on its Web site Tuesday night.

Johnson was stripped of a gold medal in 1988 after testing positive for that steroid.

According to a source with direct knowledge of baseball's drug-testing program, Stanozolol, known by its brand name, Winstrol, was detected in the Baltimore Orioles first baseman.

"It's a mildly strong to strong steroid," Dr. Gary Wadler, a professor at New York University and an expert in sports doping, told The New York Times. "Potent is the word I would use."

Ack. Well, maybe he thought it was peanut butter?

But, here's some food for thought: Palmeiro's first 100 at-bats this year, he had exactly one home run. In his next 243 at-bats, he hit 18 homers.

Hey, maybe that's a lousy statsoid. But, we can keep going...In Palmeiro's first 4 years with the Rangers, he hit a collective 70 dingers. In 93, Canseco's first season with Texas, Mr. I-never-took-stuff-period's home-run total just miraculously went to 37.

There was kids on my h.s. baseball team that took them from freshman year on. I never took 'em though (maybe that's why I only got one division 1 scholarship offer )
But I always heard all the bad stuff about them from my brother-in-law so I stayed away. There is A LOT of kids taking them still

Report: Palmeiro tested positive for stanozolol
August 3, 2005

NEW YORK (AP) -- Rafael Palmeiro's positive steroid test was for stanozolol, a powerful anabolic steroid that is not available in dietary supplements, according to a newspaper report.

The New York Times, citing a person in baseball with direct knowledge of the sport's drug-testing program, reported on its Web site Tuesday that Palmeiro tested positive for the drug known by the brand name Winstrol, most notably linked to the Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson of Canada.

The person who said that Palmeiro tested positive for stanozolol did not want to be identified because the testing policy prohibits anyone in baseball from disclosing information about test results without authorization, the Times said.

The Baltimore Orioles first baseman was suspended by Major League Baseball for 10 days on Monday after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. The highest profiled player to be punished so far, Palmeiro testified before Congress in March that he ``never used steroids.''

The test was taken some weeks after Palmeiro testified before Congress in March, meaning he is probably not at risk for perjury, the Times reported, citing a committee staff member who spoke to the newspaper on condition of anonymity because official statements are supposed to come from members of Congress.

Palmeiro didn't deny turning in a positive test, but was adamant it was an accident.

Johnson was stripped of his 100-meter gold medal in 1988 after testing positive for stanozolol.

Palmeiro was the seventh player to fall under baseball's new, tougher steroids policy; Seattle Mariners right-hander Ryan Franklin became the eighth when he was also suspended 10 days for a violation Tuesday. Baseball does not release what type of drug a player has tested positive for, and so far none of the eight have spoken openly about details of their violations.
Rafi again.

i dont see how winstrol would have any positive effects for him, being a babseball player. its a very mild a-s (little strength gain taken solely) and it pretty much takes the lubrication out from your joints, which is needed when you play 180+ games a season. not to mention if hes taking 50-100mg daily (which would be needed to see any sign of a gain whatsoever) his liver must be hurting pretty bad, literally. i dont know, he obviously didnt know what he was doing... i could have better results taking some protein, carb's, and vitamin's and minerals.

Love the Google ads for the Baltimore Orioles tickets! So far, he's the biggest name to get caught, but I'm sure that there are other big name athletes who are still doping but are much smarter about it. Also, with the weak ass penalties imposed by MLB it's no wonder these dudes are still doping.

... I've been here, on this site since 2001, and I've never admitted to this... but here it goes... (and I know I'm going to get a lot of "hate'n" for this.... but oh well...)

y'know in the movie "Interview With A Vampire?" when they claim that...as a vampire, when you walk into a room and see another vampire... you'll just know he/she is a vampire... well, coming from someone that's done it... and been "there" ...there are a lot more 'roids than you guys all know it...

I don't really follow baseball, in fact before this week, I had never even heard of Rafael, but from lookin' at him on TV, I can tell... he's "juiced"

....just wait til all this testing 'stuff hit the NFL...

Why would someone flame you because you are on the roids? Its your personal decision and the only way i'd care would be if you were a professional athlete with an unfair advantage over other players.

You ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Point

My point was that your anger/frustration this season is but a percentage of a fraction of what we had to put up with. But oh did it make last year sweet!

to tell if someones on whether theyre big or small , more times then not, all you need to look at is the area around the nose and eyes, the puffiness-water retention no normal person would have there. in his case, with the winstrol, there not much water but yea you can tell, you always have that look..
