Clearly Pyeongchang paid more in bribe money and favors than Munich and Annecy.

ahhh...the squeaky clean Olympic Committee and their selection process.

Unlike FIFA, me thinks the Winter Olympic selection process was relatively clean.:2cents:

Oh and :woot:

Moog-Type-S 07-06-2011 06:48 PM

^^ Sure...because when it comes to clean....the Olympics are the poster child!

Just around the corner.

Russia got :banned: for being cheats...Should be good fun. I am still holding out for the hope they bring in men's pairs in figure skating and dancing.

And we need women's tandem luge. :O

Mizouse 02-10-2018 12:16 PM

Tandem luge??? :naughty:

Mizouse 02-10-2018 12:17 PM

I still can't get over that it's already been 4 years since Sochi and 8 years since Vancouver :what: :rip:

Yumcha 02-10-2018 04:27 PM

Time flies, M. It seems just recently I met up with you nimrods in SD.

I would love to see Women's Pairs figure-skating too. :naughty:

imj0257 02-10-2018 09:42 PM

So some 17 yr old kid won men's snowboard slopestyle. Cool.

imj0257 02-10-2018 09:44 PM

Also, North and South Korea did something really nice. Combined the North and South Korean women's hockey teams.

They lost 0-8 to Switzerland in their first game.

I enjoy the speed-skating events...they are pretty fun. Ski jumping is neat too.

Bobsled is neato too.

Mizouse 02-11-2018 01:00 PM

I dunno but I have a strange fascination with curling.

its probably the only sport I'd have a chance on going to the Olympic's for :chuckle:

Men's figure skating should involve body-checking. And tackling.

F-C 02-12-2018 10:10 PM

Watching some Olympics on TV right now. Barely any spectators. Men's combined downhill had just a smattering of people in the stands. Half pipe is even worse, with workers outnumbering spectators. What a disaster.

I was watching the men's downhill as well yesterday. I could have sworn they said it was one of the furthest away/most isolated ski mountains in S. Korea... if so, I'm sure that has something to do with it

Mizouse 02-13-2018 02:21 PM

Hasn't it also been really windy causing competitions to be delayed and pushed later?

There's been some articles written prior to the Games that attendance will be a challenge. But it's still shocking when it actually occurs.

Reasons:
  • Extremely remote location with very little accommodations forces long commutes
  • Lack of English instructions including on websites forces foreigners to give on on trying to attend
  • Olympics falls on the Lunar New Year, causing lack on interest for locals to attend, and causes supply problems for trains to take spectators to the Games.
