Ah okay. Thanks for the clarification...cuz, the pics you posted (Belbin) does NOT look like the horseface that won Silver yesterday.
STILL, it does not excuse you for watching the ice dancing event.
I'll confer with the others to think up an appropriate punishment for you.

On a side note, Korea is also projected to take gold for women's figure skating.

with the Koreans... if they do good, yeah... they're a national pride. I mean, when the Steelers won the SB... they welcomed Hines Ward with open arms, and he's only half Korean... and yet... it's a country where there's still a lot of racism

i agree that people in korea have somewhat reckless korean pride and what not... but regarding athletes doing well and being welcome, how is that a racism?

even when the koreans lose, there's a lot of national price (which is also true with lots of asian countries).
the koreans do have a long memory, however.
re: ohno winning gold in 2002 when the korean was dq'd. then ahn jung-hwan and teammates celebrating a goal against the u.s. in the world cup by speedskating.
and paul hamm beating the korean in men's gymnastics in 2004, i believe.
now, in terms of hines ward, it was hypocritical from a nation that never looked kindly on half-koreans. but that's a topic for another thread.

IS300eater was just making a reference that Koreans in general are very close minded - I wouldn't say outright racist, but many of them can be extremely ignorant.
But on a side note, Hines was always well received in South Korea well before the Super Bowl win. From the very minute that they found out he was half-korean, the Koreans praised him.

I'm not Korean, but I have friends here in California that are... In an area that's predominatly Korean. From what I've been told, Koreans don't like it when their kids date anyone that's not Korean... even if they were Chinese...
I have a co-worker who's half Korean, half white... she looks more Asian, and has a heavy accent. AND SHE tells me how she's looked down upon. In fact... when she was a child, her mom couldn't take it anymore... couldn't deal with the shit, so they immigrated to the US.
Hines Ward, who's half black... half Korean... He gets a SB ring... and all of a sudden... they greet him with open arms... he becomes a national pride.

some guy at the gym, last month... (who's white...) is married to a Korean... therefore his kids are half... and yes, in 2010... his kids are getting teased and picked on at school (by other Korean kids) They come home crying every other day.

Heck, same goes for almost any nation. I would not say it's just the Koreans.

it's hard to word what I'm trying to say...

now, i don't want to stereotype and generalize all koreans into one pot. but many are ignorant and look down on halves. there are many reasons for this, which i don't want to get into because it's really just hijacking the thread. but let's not get carried away here because it's not just koreans.
i have many friends and know families that had to move here for the same reason as your friend. so i know where you're getting at.
however:
1) let's not confuse and put all koreans into one pot
2) hines ward was welcomed with open arms, especially after winning mvp and a SB. yet, his mom did criticize koreans because she was faced with the same discrimination your friend's mom did.
koreans like to see their own succeed. i've always thought the nation has a chip on their shoulder: small country, always fighting to protect its land/people, next to big timers in china and japan, etc. so they like to see their own succeed and do well in american and in the "world's spotlight". are there hypocrites? of course. but it's not everyone.
3) i know many chinese, japanese, taiwanese, african, caucasian, etc. friends whose parents want their children to date/marry within the same race/nationality. it's not just koreans.
for the sake of this thread, we can have the discussion in a new one or in the jjang thread.
anyways....i'll be watching figure skating tonight.

so because your co-worker was looked down on, you come to think that all of half's would be treated so in korea, and more so as it being racial issue?
it's kinda shameful fact, but koreans have this problem with putting others down to become popular and well known.. if you look look different, there is possibility that you could be left alone and finger pointed at..
it's not a racial issue but cultural issue...
oh.. and i've seen plenty of korean male marrying caucasian female (since it's not that rare to see korean female marrying other race)

racism?
it's not just Koreans. Pretty much every single country has some sort of people who are like that.
But, I can admit that a lot of older generation Koreans are not that open to interracial(?) marriage, not because they are racist, but more like caused by korea's history.

No Is300eater is correct to some extent. I used to get crap from my other family members and church members (went to a korean church growing up) for being half japanese.
Not so much of an issue anymore.

i agree to is300's regarding many koreans being close minded though
and they have this biggest talent of making the smallest dust into a huge pile of shit and now it became a social and national issue

Yes people, Korean Girls from Korea look different from Korean girls in the states... I know they look all the same to most people.
I'd rate her a 7.5/10.

IMO, she's cute for a Korean Girl from Korea - and yeah, I agree about here eyes. In some photos she comes off ok, in others she comes off kinda chinky.

^ No. From what I understand, in women's figure skating, the strongest competitors are from Korea, Japan and Europe.
I don't know what happened to US women's figure skating? I remember when I was a kid, all I ever heard of was US women's figure skaters (Yamaguchi, Tonya Harding, Nancy Kerrigan, and Kwan)
