NFL: 2019 Season News and Discussion Thread

Soldier Field has not been necessarily kind to the Vikes but they have a pretty darn impressive D and that run-game is pretty good too. Mitch goes back to taking on a tough defense tomorrow afternoon and so, let's see what he's made of...though, if Bears go 0-2 against the division, yikes.

They were able to get in his face very often. Shaq Barrett is looking like a monster this season. TB’s run defense is really good as well.
Bucs were brushed off as bottom dwellers this season for losing to the previously 4-12 49ers and to rookie QB Danny Dimes, but they’re better than they initially look.

The NFL as a whole made no damn sense this week.
Bucs set a franchise scoring record against LAR
Bunch of QBs without a single throwing TD (Prescott, Bridgewater, Cousins, Ryan....)
Browns hang 40 pts on the Ravens
Gallman walks in and scores more points than Barkley ever did
Cowboys and Saints combine for a mighty 5 FGs and 1 TD.
Bears > Vikings without their starting QB
Loving the Minshew magic though. He was fun to watch, especially on that last drive. And, you know, go Hawks!

Can you imagine if an opposing defensive back did the same thing to TB12? The outrage from New England region would tear a hole in the space-time continuum

I wonder if certain actions are egregious enough to warrant criminal assault charges. Because what he does on the field is not football, it's straight up legal thuggery. He's hiding behind a NFL uniform to make it a career out of it.

Dudes like him are not NFL players. He seems like a criminal thug who happens to be athletic enough to make it onto an NFL team (hence why he's on defense side of the ball too where you just try to blow people up and don't have other specific skills/talents).

Also, now you basically can't even accidentally touch the quarterback -- even accidentally hitting their head with your hand is a personal foul, you can't hit them low, if you fall on them you have to hold your body weight off them -- and there are more QB injuries than ever, seemingly. You're also essentially not allowed to try to separate a receiver from the ball except by slapping their hands, when in the past even if they missed the catch you could demolish them.
That's true of almost all sports these days. The NBA used to be much more physical and the NHL definitely used to be more physical. Fans of all of the current games are trained to enjoy video game type of play, where it's all flash and finesse instead of getting pummeled and blindsided.

Kind of on the fence about Burfict. His reputation precedes him, and I think he definitely deserves a suspension. IMO he is a dirty player, and I hate the Raiders but a 12 game suspension seems extreme.
Seems like they took it up a notch this season. I was surprised to see Kwon Alexander get ejected so quickly in the Bucs game.
My qualms are with how the NFL seems to hand out arbitrary punishments. Assault and domestic violence are way worse than marijuana possession and even intentionally leading with your helmet, but that’s just me.

Anyone just look at Brady, it's an auto-15 yard penalty and likely game toss.

Also, assault and domestic violence should be criminally prosecuted and have no bearing on in-game action. As far as it pertains to the game, I don't care about it. I also don't care -- as it pertains specifically to the game -- whether someone drives drunk, for example. Prosecute them and do whatever you want legally. Then that's it. If you want to not re-sign them, that's fine, too. Firing someone for a domestic assault is ridiculous.

The issue with Brady is that 95% of the time he's never in that position because all he ever throws are short slant passes. He generally doesn't "stretch the field." I'm talking about generally. Obviously there have been times when he's thrown long, like the entire season with Moss or random long bombs to Gronkowski. The problem is in 5% of games, where he's getting his ass beat, like everyone wants to see, that's when the refs all throw flags for breathing on him. So it's like no team can ever get to him, but the ones that do get penalized for it. Then it's a lot of masturbation about how he's the best to ever play. That's what pisses people off about the Patriots.

That hit was absolutely ridiculous, we all know that if someone hit TB12 like that the Pats fans would lose their frickin minds, so would the league I'm sure. Yet because he wears a Pats jersey he gets nothing not even a fine or ejection, what a joke

I think making an example out of Burfict will bring the issue to the top. Although the refs need to call it on EVERYONE and the league needs to take action on EVERYONE that does it. The hit that took out Williams, the hit that took out Allen, I think there was one in the Cowboys/Saints game... It is getting pretty sad. These helmet to helmet calls need to be reviewed for severity and ejections/suspensions need to be handed out. Also the flailing hand to the side of the helmet is not a personal foul, roughing the passer call. The league has gotten so soft on that call.
