Absolutely atrocious play call during that drive. Falcons had a decent running game going (unlike the Pats) and they elect to keep throwing and then Ryan gets sacked big time....so they use up little time AND they're out of FG range.....Falcons really beat themselves with that

What a great game.... but shame on the Falcons for not putting it away. It is funny though... we were at a SB party and left at halftime. Everyone thought it was over. I told them there was no way you can count Belichick out. He's the master of adjustments. But even with the 28-20 lead ATL just needed the FG at the end to close it out. Instead they take a sack and get a holding call. As soon as that sequence occurred, it was over. The Falcons scored after halftime, but then they took their foot off of the Patriots' throat. Bad idea against that team and coach.
Then when Edleman made that catch, I knew it was over. The tide had already shifted, but that sealed it. Too much like Tyree's catch and just like that catch did to the Pats back then... completely took whatever wind Atlanta had under their sails away.
I will say this though... I am not a Pats fan. Being born and raised in NY I dislike anything Boston when it comes to sports. But Brady is the GOAT. Say what you want about the team, their morals, etc... but when presented with situations, he just takes it over. To have 5 Super Bowl rings in this era is just insane. Time and time again he's shown why he is the best and as dirty as it makes me feel to admit, he really is. Hats off to the Pats for keeping their foot on the throttle and completing the best comeback in SB history...

We cut the cord over 6 years ago and it was the best thing ever. I heard no hype or build-up going into this game outside of what I chose to read. No talking heads, no million different scenarios, nothing. I didn't even know about any of the SB commercials or have to hear any speculation around the halftime show in advance. It was glorious.
And now that it's over, I don't have to listen to the incessant fawning that undoubtedly is about to occur for the next 7-10 days...

That's like michgan. They might be down a score, but there's still 10 seconds on the clock. You never count them out until time runs out.

It is still head-shaking how Atlanta just in many ways gave this game away...NO discredit to the Pats for capitalizing. But, would we be talking about this if the Falcons did not shoot themselves in the foot and get themselves out of field-goal range? I was thinking, run the ball...and instead, they tried to throw. Just made no sense. Not hating, but if the refs did not call that holding penalty and also off-set it with the facemask, and Falcons kicked 3 points...I think time would run out for Brady to tie.
The Pats' success is enviable for any sports fan that is NOT rooting for them. To build around a very good QB with such an amazing front-line to protect him and then just slot in parts throughout this run...it's a formula I wish was that easy. Gotta give Palpatine credit for his ability to coach and out-scheme other teams. Being in the Pats' division also helps...other than the Jets kinda getting good a couple of times, NE almost always had a spot spoken for in the playoffs because the Bills and Fish just are not good enough to compete in the division.

That was the best SB I've ever seen, I too thought it was over at halftime, but I kept watching. brian2 said it best, time of possession. Playing man coverage all game and OT completely wore out the Falcons' defense. It worked until after halftime, then White tore them up... new SB record of 14 receptions in a game.

I hate watching games and people are like, see you should throw it, fuck running the ball. This allows the D to tee off on your team for sacks. Incompletions stop the clock. D can't rest since you're more likely to get 3 and outs. I don't even think NE was stacking the line baiting for a pass.

I thought the 1st q was a pretty decent stalemate . 2nd q ATL dominated. 3rd q was TD for TD then the rest of the game is history haha
On another note I fully expect to see Tennessee in the playoffs next season

Kyle Shanahan is now the coach of the 49ers!
6-year contract is kind of sketch, especially for a first-time GM and HC. But I have hope that these guys are surround themselves with the right people, both on and off the field.
Not much else to be said, but hopefully he learns from this experience.

I didn't see it myself but I keep reading that after Julio's insane sideline 4th qtr catch, the Patriots were showing cover-1 run blitz, ready to stop the run. And the Falcons were still successful in the passing game. Still, a shorter dropback to get the ball out quicker would have helped. Shanahan was just outcoached after Belichick/Patricia's adjustments. In hindsight...
