Officiating in general was awful across the league yesterday. It took like 15 mins in the SF ARZ game to figure out what down it was and still got it wrong
That call in Seattle on Russ was outrageous. The broadcast guys were saying its because he gave himself up as a runner and was going out of bounds
Flag football is going to be so much fun in 5yrs

Officiating has been going downhill last handful of years. It will soon go to a NHL and MLB system, calls reviewed in a corporate booth.

I blame the NFL more than the refs. Rodger The Dictator constantly tweaks the rule book to the point where it looks like the damn tax code. The refs just have to find a way to be consistent with it all

So sad reading the Boldin quote saying "felt like we were playing two teams" and watching Alex Boone getting interviewed afterwards.

Yeah, fuck Goodell. I completely understand player safety, but refs league-wide are awful. Some of the rules are way too sensitive. They need to sit these guys down before the season starts, train them well, and hold them accountable when they make bad calls. Allegedly even Mike Pereira was laughing at how bad one of the calls was.
I'm no longer salty about it, but I vividly remember the BS roughing the passer call on Ahmad Brooks against Drew Brees in 2013. That call cost the 49ers the game and home field advantage, probably another SB trip, and IMO led to the greatest coach they've had during my time being let go.

Listen I cant say shit because Tommy get a lot of roughing the passers calls, probably more than anyone else, but I feel bad for these defenders. One of my favorite players ever Sean Taylor would have been thrown in jail if he still played in todays league

I'm so happy the Broncos handed the Patriots their first loss. Yeah, yeah, the Pats fans are probably sending me anthrax in the mail now. Sorry guys. Osweiler has been doing a good job taking over Manning's position.

Didn't see this posted...but, this now would further explain why the Browns what they did to Manziel...The guy lied to the coaches and the team.
Source: Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel demoted after lying to team about timeline of video
Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel lost his starting job because he lied to the team's coaching staff about when a video of him partying in Austin, Texas, was recorded, a league source confirmed Thursday.
Manziel's account to the Browns was earlier reported by Fox Sports.
One week after being named the team's starter, Manziel was demoted to third string for Monday night's game against the Baltimore Ravens after social media posts surfaced showing Manziel allegedly partying during the team's bye week.
According to a league source, Manziel lied directly to coach Mike Pettine about when the video was filmed. He also encouraged his friends to lie about when the video was recorded, according to the Fox Sports report.
Manziel might have kept the job had he told the truth, the source said.
Pettine was asked Wednesday if Manziel admitted the video was from last weekend.
"I won't get into the details of what we talked about," Pettine said.
The video showed Manziel singing in a nightclub and holding what appeared to be champagne bottle. One day after the video surfaced and after meeting with Manziel, Pettine announced Tuesday that backup Josh McCown would replace Manziel as the team's starter.
"When you have a great opportunity in front of you, it is important that you demonstrate that you can handle the responsibility that comes with it," Pettine said Wednesday. "I can't emphasize enough the importance of the trust and the accountability piece. This is where we had an obvious shortcoming."
Manziel had been named the Browns' starter after he threw for 372 yards in a 30-9 loss to the Steelers on Nov. 15. When he was named the starter, Pettine talked to Manziel about appropriately representing the organization. Manziel told reporters before the bye week that he was "not going to do anything that's going to be a distraction to this team or be an embarrassment to the organization."
Last month, Manziel made headlines after witnesses reported him driving dangerously on an interstate highway, and his girlfriend said he had gotten physical with her in the car. Manziel was questioned by police, who smelled alcohol on Manziel's breath but did not give him a field sobriety test because he showed no signs of inebriation. Just last week, the NFL announced Manziel would not face discipline for the incident.
Manziel spent 10 weeks in a treatment facility during the offseason for undisclosed reasons.

Well, more just stupid. And getting bad advice.
Him and Patrick Kane of the Hawks are cut from the same cloth...only difference is that Kane has ducked a few bullets because of his insane talent but you would have to imagine the latter is on his last chance with Chicago.

I don't understand why Pettine would open himself up to criticism by not mentioning the dishonesty up front. There was a lot of unnecessary confusion and questioning generated by his reasoning that would have been quashed if he mentioned the real reason. A lot fewer people will defend lying than partying.

Agree. Manziel can't seem to figure out the game has to come before his lifestyle. And he's too stupid or immature to realize that the game is the one thing that actually enables his lifestyle.
Unless he pulls his head out he's going to be just another broke, 30-year old drunk. He's going to learn the hard way one want's to party with that.

Manziel is an idiot for lying about the video, but the organization needs to see what he can do on the field, not stick to the discipline crusade of a head coach who has at best one more year as an NFL head coach.

Oil money. Louder must have missed my post about why he is the way he is. He acted like a spoiled rich kid before he ever made a pay check. He's also created a celebrity status for himself that will outlive his NFL career unfortunately.
His family also has the financial success and accounting resources to invest his money wisely. The majority of athletic wealth squandering happens in rags to riches stories.

Great, because I was just saying that what this country really needs is another celebrity who is famous for nothing more than being rich.

Him becoming a top pro qb in the NFL will have very little impact on his family's quality of life.

So how about the new SI blatantly showing a hold on Dominique Easley.
Obviously 19-0 would have been pretty cool but I'll take a healthy Gronk over a W every time. If the pats lose him its over

IMHO the only people the Pats absolutely need is Brady and Belichick. The cheerleaders could suit up and he'd throw them TDs. I picked up their head cheerleader off waivers just this week.

Now that brings new meaning to TEs, WRs, encroachment and personal fouls
All kidding aside, it has been impressive to watch the injury riddled Pats string together wins week after week.

It really has (as much as I hate to admit it ). When you look at Gronk's receptions each game, they haven't really gone up in spite of losing one WR after another. So it's not Gronk taking up the slack - it's the next man up taking on the slack. I think if Gronk went out Chandler would pick up the 5-7 receptions and they move on. Making a run at the Superbowl becomes harder I think, because it's a house of cards that the right defense can bring down. But I think they still have a fighting chance - as much as Carolina, Arizona, Bengals or Broncos have.

I wasnt including Brady because thats just a no-brainer
But #2 on that list offense or defense is easily Gronk imo. I'm sure NPB and most pats fan agree

It's probably why he has no drive to be a successful pro. I would imagine if he came from a lower income bracket he would have more drive to be successful and make life better for his family.
Him becoming a top pro qb in the NFL will have very little impact on his family's quality of life.
