True. He likely lied. But what he did is no different than what athletes in every major sport do in every game to gain an edge and push the rules. Whether its a pitcher scuffing a ball or using resin, a hockey player using an illegal curve, a goalie who's pads are a 1/4 inch too big, a boxer with gloves that are a fraction off and other QB's who do the exact thing to balls. Not to mention....Steroids. Any of these athletes would have also likely and have lied if asked. Brady IMO is no better or worse. But because of his high profile and team success and because he was caught....he's being put through the ringer.
Lets just try and keep some consistency and look at the bigger picture. He's not alone.
And because the outcome of the game was not affected, a fine is more than enough IMO.

Don't disagree with any of the above - players push the boundaries of the rules and many don't get caught. But Brady did. So now he has a choice - face it like a man or lie about it, and he chose the latter. Was watching ESPN this morning and I think one of the commentators nailed it - had he just fessed up it would have been dealt with and over. But because he lied about it, and is still actively trying to cover it up, hide behind lawyers, he's made it worse. Much worse. I think the punishment will be more proportional to the fact that he lied about it, which will be worse than the punishment for the actual act itself.

Brady suspended four games; Pats fined, lose two draft picks
Tom Brady has been suspended four games for his role in the "Deflategate" scandal.
The league announced the suspension Monday, with the official reasoning being conduct detrimental to the integrity of the NFL.
The New England Patriots were also fined $1 million and will lose a first round draft pick in 2016 and a fourth-round draft pick in 2017.
The Wells Report was released last week and concluded that Brady was "more probable than not was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities," with the inappropriate activities being the deflation of 11 of the 12 game balls Brady used in New England's AFC Championship win over the Indianapolis Colts.

**** Edit - Yummy beat me to the keyboard ****
So what I am hearing as punishment is as follows:
$1,000,000 fine
Brady suspended for first four games of the season
Loss of 2016 1st round draft pick
Loss of 2017 4th round draft pick
League is trying to protect the integrity of the game.
We will see what happens when this plays out after appeals etc......

I suspect like the suspension doled out prior and punishment, Goodell's ruling is the law and final. I would be surprised if it got overruled or lessened.
Meanwhile, while I suspect Brady is talented enough to rebound from this black-eye to his rep, he's going to now forever be known as a cheat to haters like me.

No - 4 games means regular season games as follows:
Thurs., September 10 Pittsburgh 8:30 p.m. NBC
Sun., September 20 at Buffalo 1:00 p.m. CBS
Sun., September 27 Jacksonville 1:00 p.m. CBS
Oct. 4 BYE
Sun., October 11 at Dallas 4:25 p.m. CBS
Sun., October 18 at Indianapolis 8:30 p.m. NBC
Ironically Brady would come back and the first team he would face would be Indianapolis as a nationally televised Sunday Night game.

Sorry, but I'm going to gleefully wait to hear what Brady is going to try to plead here (i.e. his innocence). This outta be good.

I also wonder if this would be as big a deal as it still is if the Pats had in fact lost to Seattle.

I think the appeal will be almost automatic with the Players Union involved. How it plays out will certainly be interesting. It will also be interesting to see how or if the relationship between the Bob Kraft, Bill Belichick and Brady changes.

I mean, sure...the opponents to this "witch hunt" can say all the want about other players cheating and etc., but the Patriots are a high-profile organization, with a high-profile coach, and high-profile QB...so, yeah...more scrutiny? Still, I can't help but wonder at their "arrogance" to think that they can yet again, outwit the system especially at how Spygate played out.

Oh, you're talking about AP? Sure. Like I said, we'll see...I can't wait for Brady's excuse here. If anything, it'll be amusing.

While what Brady more probably than not did was poor sportsmanship, I don't for a second believe it affected the outcomes of the games. It is more along the lines of wearing your favorite shoes that are not the sponsors brand.
Armstrong especially gained a clear and dominant advantage from his and his teams' doping.
I think the suspension is harsh for the crime, but sanctions are certainly appropriate.

Part of me is since he won't be able to play the vs the Cowboys.. which gives us a huge advantage. But the other part of me is just because it won't be the same type of game. I want to see the Cowboys beat him.

However, per what Vincent wrote in his note to Brady today, the guy did not fully cooperate with the investigation and well, that did NOT sit well for the NFL. The draft picks? I think it was just pile-on with the organization's history (i.e. Spygate).

I mean, what I don't get why didn't Brady just fess up and say something like he thought it was not a big deal to lower the psi a bit and didn't think it was so serious? Let the NFL dole out a fine or even a 1-game suspension...be over it.
Something like that...?
Instead, play difficult and almost arrogant about it like he's above the NFL's rules and now...this. This is going to get ugly and drawn out. So yeah, I think he's an idiot. And deserves all the ridicule and mud-slinging his haters will throw his way.
