Talks of the Timberwolves trying to acquire Jimmy Butler through a trade seemed to be gone. That could have been a scary, young team; I don't know what the Wolves would give up though, or how Butler would react to playing under Thibs again.

I guess it now depends on what Chicago does in UFA. I'm guessing yet again, that no one of significance (i.e. Top 5) will want to play for the Bulls and so, they'll be going after the 2nd-tier type talents?
Expect another year of mediocrity.

Aside from the politics, i think Obama is the coolest President in recent history.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue got a unique championship ring - from the White House.
President Obama called Lue to congratulate Lue on winning the NBA title and invited him and the Cavs to visit him in Washington before he leaves office. Lue spent nearly four minutes talking hoops with Obama, who said he had already emailed superstar LeBron James to offer his wishes.
"You did a really great job. It didn't hurt having this guy named LeBron James," Obama told Lue. "You should be proud of yourself. You did a great job on this and I really do think you brought cohesion and steadiness and a focus to the team. It really showed itself. You should feel good about what you did."
Lue took over midseason after the Cavs fired David Blatt despite having a 30-11 record.
Lue modestly accepted Obama's praise and credited Cavs ownership and general manager David Griffin for assembling Cleveland's roster.
"It was just unbelievable and I thank those guys all the time for having the belief and confidence in me," Lue said.
A journeyman point guard for 14 seasons in the NBA, Lue was at ease while sitting at a desk at the team's training facility and chatting with Obama, who is a huge basketball fan and said he gave up playing two years ago after seeing so many friends pop an Achilles tendon.
Before hanging up, Obama joked about Cleveland's players going shirtless during numerous celebrations after they made history by overcoming a 3-1 deficit to beat Golden State in seven games.
"Tell J.R. (Smith) and everybody to put on a shirt," Obama said, drawing a chuckle from Lue. "You can't just be walking around without a shirt for like a whole week. Now (Iman) Shumpert is taking off his shirt, Kyrie is taking off his shirt. Come on, man."

Agreed on that front. But, that may be a part of why a lot of people detest him; he really came across as more of a celebrity than a presidential figure these last couple of years. Would still be a chill dude to shoot the shit with.

i see both sides... he needs to be the f'in president and run the country... not a kardashian... but on the other side, he is personable to the American people and looks more 'real' vs being 'the president'

Beyond Butler, only Lopez, Mirotic & Moore are in their peak years and I don't know if these are the names expected to carry the team. Everyone else is still a year or more away from entering their peaks, or 31+ and beginning their decline.

It's easy for us to say no, but FOs can have completely different mindsets. They may feel they want to try and compete with Butler.

If you even go back a few years BEFORE D-Rose, the years of Deng, Thomas, Duhon, Gordon, et al...THAT squad had a shot IF the management would not be so in-love with their own team. I recall reading they had a legit shot to get KG. And instead, he goes to Boston and the rest is history. That team stood in Chicago's way like how the Cavs/Miami stood in the Bulls way. There is never that "ELITE" player to get Chicago over the top post-Jordan. Never. Butler is NOT that type of player...he's good. But, he's not elite-great. This is why the Bulls should blow it up...and tank. Seriously.

Can't argue that, except for maybe that Rose could have been your Elite player post-Jordan before the injury; the guy did grab a MVP in one season. The only Bull to do so besides Michael I think.
But again, no argument here. They were a top 4 seeded team from 2011-2015 if I remember correctly, a very good team that made a couple good runs into the Playoffs. I think the problem was excluding 2012 & 2014 (not sure if that was an injury related loss), you guys always ended up against LeBron and just not enough talent to surpass his 2 teams. Although, Rose showed a lot of promise at 22 in that 2011 series; multiple 20+ point, 6+ assist games. It's a shame the injury shattered what could have been his peak years as one of the greatest guards in the game.

Whiteside re-signs for the max. Clarkson stays in LA. DeRozan gets huge contract.

Inflated TV deal means inflated contracts. I heard the cap it getting another nice boost next year too. That indicates KD could re-sign with OKC for 1 year and then him and RW get paid (cap permitting).
