The sizzle in the Steak
So the majority Kings and Lakers fans are complete idiots and ignore historical ties, a legacy of joint success, the partnerships that have kept them in the same building, etc, etc. Well, I can't help that.
Its not really news to me. But I won't change the way I think about it. The Kings and Lakers are associated on many, many levels and to be honest, I think everyone else is an idiot for not thinking that way.
I think the truth however is more like this:
The Lakers fan doesn't know there's a hockey team until they do something special (its LA, we put ice in our drinks not skate around on it) and the Kings/Clippers fan hate the Lakers for their obnoxious fans (I do too PLENTY of times, as everyone knows).

Joint success... What joint success?!?!? The Kings have had ZERO success for their entire existance...until this year....the Lakers have all the success.
AEG owns the Kings outright.
AEG owns a load of teams, and I could care less...as do most fans.
Most people don't even know that AEG owns a portion of the Lakers.
I don't care if the Galaxy win or lose....Should Lakers fans be Galaxy fans too?
Should Kings fans route for Hammarby Fotboll too?
What about the Hamburg Freezers? Do you route for them too?
Come on now, be serious.
You are one of the very, very, very, few who think like this.

oh boy....
Before I go any further, respectfully, why are you pressing the point? I disagree that there aren't alot people like me, but like I said I'm not concerned there are people that don't believe the same thing. Most people I grew up with are Lakers/Kings/Dodgers fans. I grew up in 10 miles from Dodgers stadium, so yes, I'm really happy when any LA team wins (still a childhood dream to see the Lakers/Dodgers/Kings win in the same year...best hope was 1988 if I remember correctly).
Why do you think that its important that I need to be like a lot of people?
As for the Kings and Lakers, joint success in the context I was explaining was the ability to put out a good product. They've stayed together, they always been tied together. Well, I'm not here to make you believe that means anything, but I guess I do.
But I don't know what point you are trying to make when you tell me all this. I just trying to share why I believe the way I do. If it doesn't quite jibe with whatever you believe, there's no point in carrying on the discussion.
I do enjoy the whole LA sports scene, with the Lakers at the forefront of that. I was a fan before the success of the 80s. Consequently, my wife and her Dad were bigger kings fans, so I got enjoy the nuances through them. I'm still really happy for them.
Anyways, far be it for me to inject some perspective...I was hoping it was something that would be appreciated by a diehard LA fan, but you've drawn a distinction, which is fine.
Honestly, I think you just need hockey back already.

Anyways Moog, you're point is well taken and I don't want to hijack the thread any more than I have. This is the basketball thread. I do appreciate the perspective...ya, I'm a little irked by Laker haterism, but I'm sure you'd feel the same with whatever happens to the Kings.
Trust me, you're not the only Kings (or clippers) fan I've heard this from. The whole we're-not-the-lakers seems to be pretty intense for some in those fanbases....

IMHO with the current roster Phil should have been the coach because the Lakers mostly old and are not equipped execute a run&gun offense also D'Antoni has no defensive coaching skills. Hard feelings run strong between Jim Buss and PJ I think he left PJ hanging on purpose.

Anyone else witnessing this 3ot game in Toronto vs. Utah?
Geez...I'm getting winded just watching it. It takes me 2-3 days to recover from playing pickup games now.

Hope he can get back soon...but, no rush. If he can make it like how Adrian Peterson came back for the Dikings...wow, I'll take it.

Hope he changes his little things in his game to keep him from getting injured though.
Speaking of injuries, Bynum is out until December. I bet he's making tons of fans in Philly...

He not enough of an athletic freak.....now that he doesn't have Kobe and Pau or even Lamar to help him out, he's gonna fade further from relevance.
Lin was WIDE open on that 3. Airball? Step into that...at least you miss strong, better than an airball. At least strong has a chance.

LA fans don't care about all the LA sports teams.
It's just the truth. Matter of fact most fans in LA are fair weather fans.
...just go to a Dodger game: Everyone shows up in the 3rd inning, and leaves at the 7th inning stretch.
Only bandwagoners are the ones that care about all the teams...when they are winning.
....as for all the 3 teams you mentioned winning in one year.....the Kings were never close to winning in that time frame.....only in '93, and this past year when they actually won something for the first time.
Just saying.

No...not sure if that is good advice since everyone heals differently. But, if D-Rose's doctors give him the green light...then, heck yeah.

I'm just saying you are a diamond in the rough. An exception to the general rule.

I think you and I are part of a diehard core for the Kings and Lakers, respectively. Unfortunately for me, fairweather fans are the biggest part of the Lakers 'nation'. I don't participate in Laker forums because of it.
As for Dodgers fans (as I am) being in that parking lot is a harrowing experience, even when you wear the right colors.
Thanks for the correction on what happened in 88. its a blur to me now, all I remember now is that we had some great players (McSorely, Robatille, Gretzky were pretty easy to remember). not claiming to know anything, just that 88 was pretty fun, regardless.

Well the silver lining of this coach hiring for the Lakers is at least the fans won't loot and burn the city down in June......because clearly they are not going to win it this year...or any time soon.

we'll have to see. I do think its a good fit though...Nash hasn't had a high screen since he's gotten here, so just that'll free him up.
Antoni's only mistake is that Phil was an option.

I get your point, but we haven't seen how they are going to tweak it though. Won't really know anything until Nash is back either.
#225
But that's a high standard that I'm not ready to bestow upon them, personally. I'll take what comes of all this. I think the Spurs and OKC still look better, as I've said in the past. I realize the media and the public at-large is going to hang them by expectations, which happens when you add 2 big names to the Pau and Bryant.
They certainly have the pieces, but still have flaws that we all know about. Every 'contending' team except for the Heat has their flaws. But I think an honest assessment can be had probably around February or March, after they take their extended road trip.

still cracks me up. Ya, its probably true.
Honestly, 7 games into the season, I've already got fatigue with all the crap going on. New players, new players injured, fire coach, believe a HOF coach is gonna come back, get another coach....
On top of that I work at home and watch the Laker channel all day. I think I need a Laker vacation....

Was there last year, at Clips/Heat with my friend who's the Clipper exec....that was a good game, just insane athleticism for both squads...
#232
No idea what that means....

ahhh, I see. Ya, I hear alot of that about Jim Buss nowadays.

Buss isn't that stupid compared to Loria. The city built him a new stadium and after 1 season at the new ballpark he has a fire sale of the team. I seriously hope the bode Loria sits on has a pressure regulator problem.

I'm Down Right Fierce!
I thought it was weird, but suddenly my Fox Sports channel (1065 I think? on Cox Cable here in socal) turned into a Time Warner Sports HD Channel... and the channel literally whores out the Lakers.
It basically plays all Laker games, past laker games, reality laker tv, etc.
But W/E... guess Time Warner is the pimp and the Lakers are its ho's this season.

Well, that's to be expected with all the money changing hands between the Lakers and TW. But what else am I gonna have on, the View?
I get my news from other sources as well, no worries. But I'm as willing to form my own opinion as anyone.
On a side note, I'm reading 7SOL, the book on the Phoenix Suns and D'antoni. Might as well since we have Nash and D'antoni now, and their most hated rival was the Lakers. I'm sure it'll be an interesting read.
...excited for Heat/Clips tonight....
