NBA: 2012 Off-Season News and Discussion Thread
Okay, the LeHeat won!
So, now it's time for the most memorable and epic of all epic of all epic of all epic seasons to roll off to the sunset...
I will NEVER forget such a great season when my fave team won the Title.
Watching LeBron win that Playoff MVP and holding the Title trophy was seriously one of the best moments of my life. I was ready to trade my entire robot collection, my wife, my savings, my everything! to see it...But, by winning, it shows how great of human beings the LeHeat are...
I love them.
Anyhow, off-season news (free agency and drafting) and chatter here. I can't wait for the new season to arrive to watch the LeHeat win yet another Title!

So no more mentions of last year's championship in this season's thread, right Yum?
You were distastefully celebratory....

^^you guys suck.
Seriously though, do you actually want some of the big names being thrown out there that want to sign? Ray Allen, Steve Nash, etc? To me those guys would be make the Heat too old, IMO. Gotta stay young and athletic in today's NBA.

I guess having a Bert-style unibrow doesn't matter when you're gonna get paid millions.

So, Odom is going to the Clippers, Mo Williams is going to the Jazz, & Dallas receives a trade exception.

The Heat traded out of their first rounder so not to have to guarantee a 2 year contract and thus luxury tax savings. "Their" guys were gone anyways although I heard they might have liked who OKC took. I think Perry Jones was his name.
And Wade to get knee surgery and miss the Olympics. I'm glad he gets a break but he wanted to take his sons out to London. I'm sure they'll go one day.

There was talk that it was the Lakers that were going to use send their trade exception. However, the Clips don't want to help their in conference competition in any way.
I think (hope) that the hang up is that Mo won't sign the extension unless he goes to the Lakers. Its essentially the same deal, except the Lakers end up getting better as opposed to the Jazz.

I'm Down Right Fierce!
With Billups out, they don't have a good reliable two guard. I've also been hearing that Foye may be lured elsewhere.
And Odom pretty much wasted this past season, and needs to work his a** off to get back into shape.... but then again Mo is streaky as heck too. Meh, guess its a wash.

I actually don't like this trade for the clips.

But, seriously, what does Howard expect Brooklyn to trade for him? A group of sub-par players that Brooklyn is going to need to groom & help Williams?

Guess nobody is getting Howard this year but Brooklyn. What an idiot.

Of course it's the fucking Nets. Why does he think we're all stupid?
Besides that, what's to stop Orlando from saying, "LOL, we'll trade you to whoever we want?"

As the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and other teams prepare possible trade offers for him, Howard told Yahoo! by phone that, "There’s only one team on my list and if I don’t get traded there, I'll play the season out and explore my free agency after that."
Howard wouldn’t specify the team, but multiple league sources believe that it is the Brooklyn Nets.

I wouldn't offer Bynum a max contract.

Billups is slated to return this season - but given his age and injury, I doubt he'll be the same, even if he is surrounded by professional trainers and such.... but that's just based on my own personal experience.
I suffered the same injury - ruptured right achilles tendon - at 25 years of age, and I was never the same again. I used to dunk a volleyball easy, but after/now I have a hard time even grabbing rim (easily lost 6 inches of vert). It threw everything off for atleast 1.5-2 years for me - and I had to adjust to not being explosive off the right foot, and readjust to not jumping as high for jumpshots. Not to mention that my body compensates for my weaker right leg, so I have tendonitis in my left foot, as well as arthritis/stiffness in my left knee/ankle. But since I'm and old man now, I'm allowed to play dirty (grab shorts, hand check, etc., ).
I certainly wouldn't offer Chauncey anymore than the vet minimum for sure - he's in the same boat as Baron - both had career ending type of injuries at a late age.
But I'm glad to hear that Blake is signing a 5 year extension with the Clips... BUT the owner was an idiot for letting the GM walk.

^ Bynum, on some nights, is one of the best bigs in the league. Unfortunately, he seems to be a douche every night.
Other interesting trade news:
1. Steve Nash offered $36 million for 3 years in Toronto... Please tell me I'm not the only one that thinks thats a terrible idea (Nash is 40?)
2. And looks like the C's are gonna try resign the entire team again... personally I kind of want to see Jesus Shuttlesworth (Ray Allen) play in a Heat uniform.

If Nash is truly set on a ring, Toronto is not the place to be. The only thing the Raptors can offer him is the ability to help mature the team, play for Canada, & then possibly become a member of team's staff. Because in the time he has left in the NBA, the Raptors aren't going to be ready for the Finals any time soon.
And this is wrong, but made me laugh regarding the Hornets reaction to Anthony's injury.

^^Heard they are playing the Gretzky card. He's either on some promo video that Nash will see or will be there in person to make the appeal.

Well well well...
The Nets will acquire Joe Johnson - if DWill signs for the max $109 million with the Nets, that will officially close the door on D12 playing in Brooklyn.
Tsk tsk... D12 you were an idiot for signing that waiver of your early termination.

I'm reading that Atlanta unloaded Johnson and Williams to create a Paul/D12 scenario next year.
Asik's signing increases the price for big men. Now guys like Camby and Kaman can get more than the exception which means Bynum could go max whether deserved or not.
I'm reading that the Heat like Rashard Lewis and probably since they've been outbid for Allen.

There is still a chance that Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard could become a member of the Brooklyn Nets, according to league sources.
The Nets and the Magic are discussing a trade that would send Howard to the Nets for Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks and the Nets' first-round picks in 2013, 2015 and 2017, sources said. Lopez and Humphries, who are both free agents, would go to Orlando in sign-and-trade deals.
The move would be the Nets' second blockbuster trade this week and could give them a big three of Howard, Deron Williams and Joe Johnson that could rival the NBA champion Miami Heat's heralded trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
In fact, the Nets would actually have a Big Four as they move into their first season in Brooklyn. Sources said that forward Gerald Wallace has agreed to a four-year, $40 million deal.
On Monday, the Nets agreed to terms with the Atlanta Hawks on a trade that sends Johnson to Brooklyn for the expiring contracts of Jordan Farmar, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow and Jordan Williams, plus DeShawn Stevenson and the 2013 first-round pick they acquired from Houston.
The Nets are still waiting on Williams to tell them whether he will re-sign with them as a free agent, but sources say Williams was pleased with the trade for Johnson, so he is expected to stay. An additional trade for Howard would undoubtedly seal the deal.
If consummated, the trade would give Howard what he has wanted for the past seven months. In December, Howard asked the Magic to trade him to the Nets.
After waiving his opt-out clause for next season in March, he again asked Orlando several times to trade him to the Nets, most recently Friday in his first face-to-face meeting with new Magic general manager Rob Hennigan.
On Monday, Howard told Yahoo! Sports that he would sign a long-term contract only with the Nets, but after the Nets' trade with Atlanta for Johnson, the chances of Howard going to Brooklyn appeared dead.
In fact, several executives involved in the talks privately said there was no chance of Howard being traded to the Nets.
But the two clubs eventually rekindled talks about a potential Howard trade.
With the Nets thought to be out of the picture Monday night, the Los Angeles Lakers, who can offer Andrew Bynum, the Hawks, who can offer Al Horford and Jeff Teague, and the Dallas Mavericks, who could sign Howard as a free agent next summer, had emerged as the likeliest destinations for Howard.
Of course, any of those scenarios could still play out as the Magic are considering all their options.
