NBA: 2009 Season Discussion Thread **Playoffs (page 6)**

I hope it's Lakers/Celtics in the finals, now that KG is back and healthy, glad that Boston beat Cavs in the season opener...hopefully will continue to be that way for Cleveland, I mean come on all you Laker fans do we really want to hear Shaq brag about how LBJ couldn't win a championship without him like he did the past 7 seasons until last year, I always thought Shaq was and is an over rated player, was this the only way to have kept LBJ in Cleveland.....Damn!!!!!

Did Cleveland actually think Shaq will help them? If anything he's doing the opposite. Sure he may have a good game here and there but there's no way he'll consistently help that team.

I dont think they can go 21-0 but shit who knows or whatever as long as we have another title next year is all that matters.

What Would Don Draper Do?
1. for the postseason and to have a legitimate big man in the playoffs.
(however, even that is flawed because 1) there's no way shaq will/can keep up with a guy like dwight howard over a series, and 2) it was mismatches at the forward and guard positions that doomed cleveland...well that and not having a legit #2)
2. to somehow prove to lebron that they're trying to make moves to keep and convince him to stay.
but really, i don't see him helping the cavs until they get to the playoffs. problem is, i still don't think he'll even be that much of a gamebreaker against teams like boston and orlando.

3. shaq's contract expires at the end of this season so it's kind of low risk/high reward.
lebron's cavs teams reminds me of the 2000-2001 sixers. you had iverson surrounded by role players who basically play defense. even though the cavs have the best player in the league they're barely even contending for the ECF when your second best player is mo williams. i'm not trying to bash them, i'm just pointing out that all championship teams these days have at least 2 all stars (mo williams doesn't count) and that the elite teams right now are really legit and loaded.
i would take boston by a hair over the lakers. i think they're less prone to mental errors and rondo is really good. never count out the spurs until they're actually knocked out. i'm not convinced that this orlando team is a legit contender but they might prove me wrong.
i think lebron will resign with cleveland or at least leans that way...but what do i know lol.

Mike Brown isn't a good head coach. The cavs have a nice collection of talent, but they don't have a team. They don't have an offensive system.
Lebron is a great, great player, but he needs a post up game. He's too big and too imposing at his position to only have the dribble drive or 3 point shot as weapons. Get in his face and throw bodies at him when he drives. None of the Cavs are slashers anyways (except Lebron), so when Lebron passes it out, all they're gonna get are shots from distance.
I would have rather seen the Cavs get some athlete's than Shaq.

For all the attention the Cavs and Celts get, I think Orlandos got a good shot at the East too. VC not having to be the man, an offseason-focusing loss in the Finals for Dwight, and some decent depth all factor in.
But what do I know...

while i agree with you, i think the cavs made the deal for 2 purposes:
1. for the postseason and to have a legitimate big man in the playoffs.

Regardless of what Cleveland does, if Boston is healthy, they take the East. Way too much talent on that team.

I think it will either be Orlando or Boston taking the East...
I am hoping for a Boston vs LA final again...

^^agreed. Orlando has their game pretty well sorted and are deeper than people give them credit for.
Celtics are just stacked and it doesn;t look like they've missed a beat..
I hope for a LA/Boston finals too, but Boston at full-strength vs. Orlando will be pretty fun to watch before that.

I'm such a bad fan. I got called at like 7:20 as my cousin had tickets. But I'm like 40 mins away plus parking in the hood and then getting home at like 10:30 so I passed. Good because we lost to the now 4-0 Suns (I had a hunch). He had nosebleeds anyways.
