I think the NBA in its current state is totally pathetic. Everyone is fucking 15 years old, doesn't know how to play defense...the teams are watered down, and every player looks like they came directly from a gang shooting. :shakehead

Bring back Magic, Bird, and Jordan...THAT was Basketball. What the NBA is now is a fucking ESPN Highlight reel for dunking. :ghey:

That very well may be, but you know damn well every one of those bean-poles turned beefcake shot up like nobody's business. Canseco is a media whore, but every person he names is totally jacked on roids.

I'm fucking terrible...I say "remember when...." constantly, especially when surrounded by pubescents up in here who weren't even rolling down the fallopian tube when Bird/Johnson/Jordan played.

Look at pitchers for example, many of these fat fucks couldn't compete in any other sport but baseball. Put these guys on a weekend beer flag football or basketball leauge and they couldn't do shit. Hell I'm more athletic than 1/2 of the major league players in the league, I certainty couldn't make that same statement about football or basketball players. Baseball players are not athletes period.

I think the sport is just evolving. Do you think a team from 1980 could hang with a team today? I don't think so. Players are bigger, stronger, faster... those shooters from back in the day that everyone talks about as being pure basketball... would get their asses kicked today.

Its true that there are less pure shooters, but that is because that skill alone is not enough to be competitive anymore. You've gotta be 6'8" with a 7 foot vertical leap also. I love the NBA and I think its better than ever.

You watched any suns games recently? Incredible.

I think the 92 Dream Team would kick ass all over these young punks. Did you ever watch Magic Johnson or Larry Bird?

You only watch the Suns because they're good this year.

But its also completely ignoring the rules of the game. Do you think Iverson would be good for 60 points if they didn't let him carry the ball every time he dribbled? Do you think Wilt wouldn't have been more effective getting an extra step or two everytime he drove the lane?

My point is that these guys aren't athletes and shouldn't be put in the same class as football or basketball players. Too me they are one step above PGA golfers in regard to overall athletic ability. I remember a few years ago ESPN did a study about which sport is the most athletic and boxing won, baseball finished way down the list below football and basketball. Hell hockey ever beat it out.

And basketball sucks ass, unless you like watching fouls called on every other possession for the stupidest contact. When the Celtics can be in first place in their division playing .500 ball there's something seriously wrong with the league.

Thats true. But a dream team from 1980... probably not.

And I've been a Suns fan since I moved to AZ... always hated the DBacks and the Cardinals with a passion, but the Suns are great.

but you think a 6'5" 380 pound center is the epitome of athleticism? Or any quarterback? I don't think I'd put Peyton Manning as mr perfect athlete either...

each sport calls for different athletic abilities. to play MLB, you've gotta be in whatever shape it takes to get the job done. if you judge the quality of a sport by only the raw physical conditioning of the players, I think you are missing out on a lot.

The eastern conference sux but its not because the NBA doesn't have a salary cap. You can blame the eastern conference downfall on poor drafts, old stars retiring and bad trades.

Any quaterback??? You must haven't heard of a guy named Vick .You might be right but something isn't right when you have pitchers like David Wells, who look like they should be plumbers.

Look...

Baseball has athletes, but it's not an athletic sport.

Basketball sets up the rules against defense, so stop complaining about players not playing it.

And 380lb centers have a 40 time that would leave you all in the dust.

Baseball is an athletic sport when it is played well.

Not complaining about the players playing the way they play, I'm just saying that the rules make it suck to watch.

And there isn't a single 380lb center that would run a faster 40 than me. No chance.

yeah, Vick is a great athlete. But can he run like michael johnson, jump like dwayne wade, throw a check like [insert NHL player here]...

I agree that overall baseball requires less conditioning than many sports... but they are definitely still athletes. Its not shuffleboard...

Sure he would. And don't you think he'd be much less effective going up against Shaq, Duncan, Garnett, McGrady, Amare? I'd love to see what Wilts numbers would be if he was playing now.

Baseball in and of itself is not athletic. outside of pitching, 95% percent of the time is spent standing or sitting.

And they may not be faster (I was exaggerating for effect), but they are by no means unathletic with 5 second 40's http://archive.profootballweekly.com...02.asp#Centers

They are faster - I was just pretending that I didn't weigh 523lbs for a minute.

Well, a true baseball player supposedly has a cannon of an arm and can run fast to cover bases and catch linedrive-types of hits...

Certainly, you could argue to do both, the conditioning does not require one to be as fit as say a basketball player or football player...But, athletes nonetheless...
