Good trade for the both. Dickey is just too unpredictable and old to lock up long term for a team that's not ready to win now, although he is a knuckleballer so he might pitch 'til he's 50. Getting one of the best prospects in baseball that is also a catcher is huge not to mention the other pieces of the trade.
Obviously risky for the Jays but sometimes you have to be aggressive. I hope they become relevant again, one of my favorite franchises. The '92 and '93 WS teams are two of my favorite all-time teams as well.

As a long suffering Mets fan, RA was one of only two bright spots in the Mets season last year. However, the move makes a ton of sense for the Mets.

Same here.
It was the right thing to do. I'm concerned about a catcher recovering from a knee injury though.
IMO, Dickey was a great person to have on a team. Especially with the young pitching talent that the METS have. He would have been like a second pitching coach. That was the upside to keeping him. The return that the METS got on this deal was just too good to pass up. They got a quality young catcher, a good veteran power hitting catcher, a young pitcher and they got rid of 2 poor catchers in the process.
The bright spots for me last season was the few times that the METS started 9 players in a game that all came up through the farm system.

Good sell high move for the Mets IMO. They got some great prospects in return for R.A.
That being said, Toronto could have one of the best rotations in baseball next season, and a pretty good offense too. I agree it'll be fun to watch them be relevant in the AL East. I used to like watching those Joe Carter WS teams.

On the other hand they have Buehrle that went 39-35 in the last 3 years. Josh Johnson that went 22-21 the last 3 years with one injured year and was 8-14 last year. Ricky Romero that is 38-34 in the last 3. JA Happ that is JA Happ. Dickey that I HOPE/think will continue to do well.
Their offense is also much improved. The big questions I have is how is Reyes going to respond to being dumped and will his legs hold up to playing on artificial grass. They gave up a lot at catching with the Mets trade. Melke has to prove that the last 2 years was not enhanced.
Point is they still have a lot of questions. Lets not give them the World Series rings just yet.

It will be interesting to see if the Jays can finally better the Rays, BoSox, and Yanks.

Couple minor things I've read lately:
- Milton Bradley arrested again for assaulting his wife, hopefully goes to jail for 13 years if convicted. Seems like a really good guy
- Kosuke Fukudome goes back to Japan after 5 MLB seasons. Fuck U Do Me jokes will never get old!
- Was reading about Larry Walker and saw this:
Walker retired after the '05 season...what a disaster that trade would've been.
- Last but not least, I randomly found this video. What a bizarre play:

- Was reading about Larry Walker and saw this:
In July 2004, the Texas Rangers agreed to send the Rockies then-minor-leaguer Ian Kinsler and prospect right-hander Erik Thompson in exchange for Walker, but Walker vetoed the trade.

Report: A-Rod is Really A-Cheat
From TSN...
Major League Baseball said it is "extremely disappointed" about new allegations of performance-enhancing drug use against Alex Rodriguez, Melky Cabrera and other players contained in a newspaper report.
The Miami New Times, a popular alternative weekly, said in a story Tuesday that it had obtained files through an employee at a recently closed clinic in south Florida that show Rodriguez purchased HGH and other substances.
"We are always extremely disappointed to learn of potential links between players and the use of performance-enhancing substances. ... Through our Department of Investigations, we have been actively involved in the issues in South Florida," MLB's statement said.
Rodriguez, the New York Yankees slugger currently recovering from hip surgery, has admitted using steroids from 2001-03 but insisted he stopped after that.
"We fully support the Commissioner's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. This matter is now in the hands of the Commissioner's Office," the Yankees said in a statement. "We will have no further comment until that investigation has concluded."
Other players named by the New Times as appearing in the records at Biogenesis include Gio Gonzalez, Bartolo Colon and Nelson Cruz.
Cabrera, the all-star game MVP for the San Francisco Giants last season, was suspended 50 games in August for failing a drug test. The outfielder has signed with the Toronto Blue Jays as a free agent.
Colon, a pitcher for the Oakland A's, was also suspended 50 games in August.
Gonzalez, who went 21-8 for the Washington Nationals last season, and Cruz, who hit 24 home runs for the Texas Rangers, had not previously been linked to performance-enhancing drugs.
The Rangers said in a statement that after being contacted by the New Times late last week, they notified Major League Baseball. The club said it had no further comment.
Gonzalez posted on his Twitter feed: "I've never used performance enhancing drugs of any kind and I never will, I've never met or spoken with tony Bosch or used any substance."
The report said that the notes of clinic chief Anthony Bosch list the players' names and the substances they received, including human growth hormone and steroids. Several unidentified employees and clients confirmed to the publication that the clinic distributed the substances, the paper said. The employees said that Bosch bragged of supplying drugs to professional athletes but they never saw the sports stars in the office.
Any player found by MLB to use banned, performance-enhancing substances, is subject to suspension.

Colon is not a surprise.

This stuff will never end. Maybe if failing the first offense would result in a lifetime ban, but we all know that will never happen and that wouldn't stop some from trying anyways. Another way might be to write a clause in every contract saying if you test positive, your contract is terminated and all money is reclaimed, but again, how likely is that to happen?
These guys have nothing to lose...the risk/reward is worth it and the game will never be clean. I've come to accept that long ago.

Report: Yankees looking for ways to void Alex Rodriguez’s contract
The Yankees are exploring legal remedies to void their contract with Alex Rodriguez after new allegations of illegal performance-enhancing drug use, according to ESPNNewYork.com.
According to several baseball sources who spoke to ESPNNewYork.com on the condition of anonymity, the Yankees may be hard-pressed to void Rodriguez’s contract — with five years, $114 million remaining — even if the charges made in a story by the Miami New Times are true. No Major League Baseball contract has ever been voided by PEDs use.
The three-time American League Most Valuable Player is one of six MLB players reportedly linked to a Miami-area “wellness clinic” that allegedly distributed performance-enhancing drugs and set players up with detailed doping regimens.
According to an industry source in ESPN.com’s report, the Yankees “are looking at about 20 different things,” including whether Rodriguez breached the contract by taking medical treatment from an outside doctor without the team’s authorization, and the possibility that he may have broken the law by purchasing controlled substances from the clinic run by nutritionist Anthony Bosch.
“(The Yankees) can’t do anything until the MLB investigation is concluded and they take action, if any,” the source said.
On Tuesday, Rodriguez denied the report that alleges he purchased performance-enhancing drugs and human growth hormone from the clinic.

On a completely unrelated note, rest in peace Earl Weaver and Stan Musial. Times like this it's not hard to miss the old days of baseball, which is why I like reading about it so much.

This is why I appreciate players like Frank Thomas, Greg Maddux, et al so much.
But, hey...they could be cheats too. I doubt it...but, you never know.

I'm happy to see it, and I'm actually interested in watching the team play for the first time in years, but I'm just wondering what's changed.
