The Mitchell Report - Clemens' named leaked

Roger Clemens is the first name reported to be the list.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3153129

Source says Clemens will be named in Mitchell report

A former New York Yankee strength trainer says information he supplied to the George Mitchell investigation regarding supplying Roger Clemens with steroids is included in the Mitchell report scheduled to be released later today, a source close to the trainer told ESPN The Magazine's Shaun Assael.

Brian McNamee, who worked for the Yankees and as a personal trainer for Clemens and Yankee teammates Andy Pettitte, also told investigators that on at least one occasion, Clemens was in possession of steroids from another supplier, the source said.

The source said McNamee told investigators he supplied Clemens with steroids while Clemens was witih the Yankees, and prior to Clemens joining the team.

Also, The Bergen (N.J.) Record, citing a baseball industry official, says "several" prominent Yankees will be named in the Mitchell report. The paper said the source spoke to a third party who had seen the final report.

"It's going to be a rough day in the Bronx," the paper quoted the source as saying.

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig told the Chicago Tribune that he hadn't seen the report, but he was proud it is coming out.

"People can say Bud was just trying to cover his butt or take care of his legacy or whatever," Selig said, according to the Tribune. "I say [bleep] it. This needed to be done, and now we've done it. I'm just happy it will be out there and we can move on. I'm proud of it."

some possible excuses:

"I must taken a supplement that was tainted"

"I didn't knowingly buy/use steroids, I thought it was just a supplement"

"They are out to get me"

I've heard they'll only name guys who are either already retired, recently retired or on the verge. Which is why Clemens makes sense. Should be very interesting.

I'm still amazed people are suprised by names on the list. I'm still trying to figure out how A-rod and a bunch of others avoided it.

Not really surprised by Clemens. When I heard it on Mike and Mike this morning, my initial reaction was WHOA. But after that I really wasn't surprised.

About 50% of A Rod's new contract is now in Mitchell's off shore bank account.

Disagree. I'd eat catbarf straight up if you told me Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Walter Payton were on drugs.

I'd be willing to bet they all took something at some point in time whether it was to recover from an injury or not. BUt then again, I think it'd be more applicable to say any MODERN athlete (say since 2000)

^ Still disagree...and although I do share your cynical view, that does not apply to certain athletes. I cannot imagine a Frank Thomas, Jim Thome, or a Curt Schilling on flaxseed crap or drugs. I don't see how Kobe Bryant is on it. I don't see how Peyton Manning is on anything.

Frank Thomas is my favorite athlete of all time, and I will bet he has taken something at one point in time. Jim Thome? Everyone came to blame people for taking steroids based on how they looked when they came in and when they came out.

Schilling? The injury proned pitcher who always seems to heal so fast? Comical, Pitchers are the worse users

Now keep in mind, some guys took worse things then others. YOu walk into GNC and about 20% of stuff you buy over the counter is illegal for these athletes to use.

Think about this...clemens probably made $100 million the last few years thanks to steroids. How can you tell people not to use this stuff?

You can't, until recently when teams stopped turning a blind eye, handing it out in the locker room, encouraging it.

DECEMBER 13--Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Miguel Tejada, Gary Sheffield, Andy Pettitte, and Paul Lo Duca top the list of baseball stars fingered today as users of performance-enhancing drugs in the bombshell investigative report issued by George Mitchell, who has spent the past 20 months probing the widespread use of steroids and other banned substances in the sport.

Included among the dozens of other current and former ballplayers identified in the Mitchell Report as users of either steroids, human growth hormone, or other banned substances are John Rocker, Lenny Dykstra, Chuck Knoblauch, Eric Gagne, Mo Vaughn, Benito Santiago, Jason Giambi, Matt Williams, Rondell White, and Kevin Brown.
