You should be scared. I know that Mueller and Cabrera have such accurate arms that Oritz will never have to dig any out of the dirt.

This is also with the assumption that Mueller can actually get a ball in his glove.

As a sox fan I completely understand. Next three games are going to be tough. Hopefully we'll take one of them and be able to close it out at home. Hopefully.

In case any of you nuts or your friends are looking to hit up a world series game, I heard about this on WAAF this morning.

http://www.targetsport.com/redsox/index.html
$1699/person for roundtrip airfare to St. Louis. 1 ticket to game 4. 1 night's lodging. WAAF-hosted pre-party.

More than I would ever pay, even considering what is included, but I know how crazy some of the Red Sox fans are. Didn't know if any of you guys or your friends were looking to find a way to a game.

That's actually the cheapest I've seen tickets anywhere, EdgarFanCLS. Unfortunately, anything over $200 is out of my price range.

my price range tops out at about $200 too. Even tickets here aren't going for less than $500.

I could actually talk the gf into it if the game was in Hawaii or something, but St. Louis isn't going to fly. No offense of course. I wouldn't pay that to go to Boston if I lived out there either.

you guys shouldnt worry too much. Ortiz IS a 1st baseman after all, people are talking as though he's playing the position for the first time. we still have Mienkavewitzchkezen (sp?) for the late innnings, and Ortiz can MORE than make up for an error or two with one swing of the stick

Big to that. I'm so tired of hearing it on ALL the sports shows too...as if Ortiz is in a cram class right now learning what a "glove" is. He's actually not bad either...no worse than Millar.

A little... He wasn't that bad last year and at the beginning of this year. He can play the position, just don't look for any Mientkiewicz type plays...

But...again, is he REALLY any worse than Millar? I don't think so.

Probably about equal... I have as much confindance in Ortiz as Millar...

The problem with Ortiz is that with his walk off hits and homeruns, Francona isn't gonna pull Ortiz for Mientkiewicz for defense in the late innings (like he would with Millar). Ortiz is gonna play the whole game at 1st just in case his bat is needed in extra innings...

I'm more worried about the Cards having home field advantage. The Cards are like 6-0 at home during the playoffs. Maybe they just like homecooked meals

I wonder if Pedro gets pitched inside tonight... (high and tight, and say goodnight)...

I don't think he has pissed off too many people in the NL, at least not in years. Umps would (hopefully) be all over it. He doesn't even take it seriously when he bats, just kind of laughs it off. Hope he's been working on his bunts.

Supposedly there's an 80% chance of rain tonight. Any of you MOs have any info?

But all bets are off with t-storms. A delay would benefit the Cards too - get Williams another day of rest.

yeah yeah yeah

Some of the guys will pull something out of their ass once in awhile, like Suppan. Morris better be gone next year. Woody just needs to retire. Carpenter needs to get his ass on the mound asap.

He pitched well in Toronto for a year or two, then fell apart. Of course, many people expected him to be dominant for years.

ST. LOUIS -- And now the World Series shifts to St. Louis and Busch Stadium. The Red Sox will find it an odd site for baseball in that no one will be yelling "You Suck!'' at them.

It's a different atmosphere in St. Louis. Boston and St. Louis both are two of the best baseball cities and their fans are well known for their passion. Cardinals fans, however, are different from Red Sox fans, famous for being the most polite and supportive in the game. You'll hear Cardinals fans booing anyone at Busch Stadium about as often as you'll hear Red Sox fans praising Derek Jeter at Fenway Park.

That's not the only way the two fans are different. Here's how they stack up:

St. Louis fans wouldn't think of attending a game without wearing a bright red t-shirt emblazoned with the familiar Cardinals logo across the chest. Red Sox fans wouldn't think of attending a game without wearing a beer-stained white t-shirt cheaply silk-screened with the familiar words, "Jeter Sucks!'' across the chest.

Cardinals fans ease their tensions before big games by toppling the pins at the Bowling Hall of Fame across the street from Busch Stadium, Red Sox fans ease their tensions after big games by turning over cars and setting them ablaze in nearby Kenmore Square.

During World Series games, Cardinals fans eagerly look forward to seeing the majestic Budweiser Clydesdales parade around the outfield. During World Series games, Red Sox fans dread seeing Manny Ramirez stumble across the outfield.

Red Sox fans join together between innings late in the game to sing and sway along to that well-known, long-established baseball anthem, Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline.'' Cardinals fans join together during the seventh inning to enjoy that inspiring American anthem, the Budweiser jungle.

Red Sox fans can look at their beautiful 92-year-old ballpark, a registered national historic landmark, and reflect on how it is where Babe Ruth pitched, where Ted Williams hit .406 and where Yaz patrolled the wall. Cardinals fans can look at their stadium that is scheduled for demolition and reflect on how it is where the tarp machine attacked Vince Coleman.

When a St. Louis batter homers, Cardinals fans demand that he come out for a curtain call. When a Red Sox pitcher allows a homer in a crucial situation, Boston fans demand that he move out of the state.

Cardinals fans hear the name Jack Buck and sigh with cherished memories of the man who broadcast so many of the greatest moments in team history. Red Sox fans hear the name Bucky Dent and break into hives.

Cardinals fans can sit in a tram and see the field from the top of one of America's most famous landmarks -- the Gateway Arch. Red Sox fans can sit in seats and see the field from the top of America's most beloved landmark -- the Green Monster.

St. Louis fans fondly recall the days when their shortstop took the field by performing a back flip. Boston fans fondly recall flipping New York shortstops the bird.

Red Sox fans get to listen to Steven Tyler and James Taylor play the national anthem before World Series games. Cardinals fans get to listen to Stan Musial playing the harmonica.

And the biggest difference between Red Sox and Cardinals fans ...

When Red Sox fans don't like an opposing player, they chant, "You suck!'' On the few occasions when an opponent irritates St. Louis fans, they chant, "You're not very nice!''

This doesn't have anything to do with the WS, other than it's about Mirabelli (and Nomar - a bit dated), but I got it in an email the other day and found it highly amusing for some reason. No idea where it came from.

A Day in the Life of Doug Mirabelli

9:00 Shakes off the cobwebs and gets out of bed
9:01 lets out blistering fart and takes 90 second
piss on his hands- farts 5 more times
9:03 drinks 3 raw eggs Rocky Balboa style and opens the fridge
9:05 take out leftovers from the Kowloon pupu platter for 3 he picked up last night
9:15 grunts at his wife and gives his kids 20 bucks each to leave him alone
9:17 takes a dump
9:22 sings Van Halen in the shower
9:25 shaves and leaves his goatee
9:30 takes 35 vicious cuts with his bat naked in front of the
mirror-screams out loud "Dougie is going deep tonight"
9:45 puts on his cowboy boots and tight jeans and tanktop and gets
ready to leave

9:50 grunts at his wife and kids and tells them he'll see them tomorrow
