Definite cap hell, look at the struggles Chicago has had with Toews, Kane and Hossa's contracts

So, if Sharelly is giving McDave this much, what is Drysightoe worth...? $9M per year?
Senior Moderator
Still, while I agree McDavie is the best player on the planet now, I don't see how this equates to the richest sports contract in the NHL under the current terms on just ONE playoff year of success. I dunno, I guess Edmonton is that scared McDave will bolt if he ever reached RFA...?

Price of 3 Cups. Success means people want to get paid. No way around it.

I feel the need...
Sooooo, Detroit's draft is being widely panned by many. A bit early to call a draft a bust, we'll see how it pans out in a few years, there weren't any can't miss guys this year.
I just hope Holland doesn't sign a veteran blue liner to an overpriced long term deal in a lame attempt to make the playoffs in the new arena. Time to let the kids play.

Word is that he's going to sign Daley to a long term overpaid deal

Anyways, it's not an indictment on Crosby. It's like trying to compare a Pagani with a Ferrari. Up to you.

I've seen McDavid play in person too, and Sid for his entire career, so there's that

I'm just sick of all the comparisons, the kid played 1 full season and had 100 pts when Sid was hurt and didn't play the whole season. Sid's entire body of work far surpasses what I think McJesus will do in his career. I think McJesus is the next great player from Sid, but I don't think you can take away what Sid has done. Also makes you wonder if Sid would have stayed healthy and not had the concussion issues where we'd be

Whatever. Like I said, there's no wrong answer here but I'm not the only person saying McDavid is the best player on the planet.
And no, Deano didn't tell me that.

It went through Pittsburgh alright, straight down Grant Street

Lots of signings but of the "bigger" ones...
Alzner goes to Montreal...and Shattenkirk is a Ranger.

Deano, I mean, Blako signs the biggest FA signing of the decade: Mike Calamari goes back to LA.

whoa, what?! this is news to me! I didn't know we got rid of Desharnais!!
for 1M, I think he's totally worth it. He didn't put up crazy numbers for us (I think we only had him for a few months), but he did come through on the occasion for some very clutch moments. He might be getting old and skills are going down, but he does bring a level of veteranship to a team. I actually would have liked Edmonton to keep him for another year.

I'm not entirely certain if I should feel bad for Yak, or for the Avalanche
I'm surprised someone took a chance on him again... he scored 3 goals in 40 games last season

We are going to try and win the lottery this year since finishing dead last this year didn't get it for us.

Is Joe Sakick going to trade Mat Dooshane...?

McJesus officially signed for 8 years, at 12.5M per year.
Team Owner
I didn't think McJesus would have been overpaid at 8 years @ 13.25M, but, I was worried about the team moving forward. That 750k isn't much, but it gives the team as a whole just that much more wiggle room.
Shiiiiiiet, so that's 100M over 8 years he will get.... now throw in all his endorsements on top...

Ack seems to be getting really butthurt about the Crosby/McJesus comparisons... not sure why.
Senior Moderator
I guess you could argue I'm like that about MJ comparisons regarding LeBron or even Beef. In this instance, I think it's debatable. But, honestly, having seen what McDavid can do in games (and highlights), I have to say he's the most breath-taking player in the game right now. With that talent that is in the same elite tier as a Crosby. But, because he is younger and FASTER, he's probably better now.
And many would agree he already is the #1 player. Edmonton is hellishly lucky to have him. Good grief. After all those #1 overall picks they abused and ruined too.

Not butt hurt at all, I think that McJesus is the next Sid, I just don't think that he's in the same conversation this early in his career. Sid is proven and his accomplishments are what they are, I think McJesus will do some great things, but I think the comparisons are way too early

Who knows at this point. I figured with the limited amount of good free agents this summer we might have been able to get a pretty good return for him but no one seems to want to pay up at all. His mediocre season compared to some of his others though probably didn't help.
Senior Moderator
The term and average salary for McDavid does not surprise me. It's what they'll pay Drysightoe that will be interesting.
He's pretty good but, is he $9M per season good? Ehhhh...I dunno. We'll see what Sharelli does. Edmonton's window to win is predicated on what they pay McDave and Leeon. Cuz, once the entry-level contracts dry up and/or Loocheech is no longer able to play at his level, the Oil will have the same cap problems as Chicago, Washington, et al...
Only team that is never in cap hell is Deano's.

Draisaitl kind of came out of nowhere. He's easily the oilers 2nd best player now. Even when he wasn't playing with McOiler (moved down to the 2nd line), he would perform admirably.
I think oilers should have have signed him first, and let that be the precedent for signing McLightning after.... I bet they could have saved a million in there, between the two, as opposed to signing McHumble first and now Draisaitl wanting more, because hey, McYoungGun got mad cash, now he should also.
I dunno. I think Draisaitl is worth 8.5-9M per year. It's whether or not the Oilers can make two salaries like that work for them.
Yes, it's a ton of money... but... I dunno. I don't think McBananas is worth double what Draisaitl is worth. No way.
While teams have been busy trying to slow down or stop McSkeetSkeetSkeet, they completely turned a blind eye to draisaitl, allowing him to become a very very clutch player. They would focus so much on stopping one guy, they totally forgot about the other... and goals would be made.
