No, overtime.

Eichel had the puck and charged the oilers net, with a good opportunity, but went wide of the net. McDavid got the rebound and charged back the other way and scored. Yay!

Holtby calls penalty on Rangers G Lundqvist 'absurd'

Holtby calls penalty on Rangers G Lundqvist 'absurd' | CSN Mid-Atlantic

Apparently, Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby and Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury don’t see Henrik Lundqvist’s net toppling with the same lens.

Following the Penguins’ 4-1 win over the Rangers Thursday night Fleury said Lundqvist’s delay of game penalty for intentionally pushing his net over was “baby stuff.”

On Friday, Holtby said he would have done the same thing if he was injured and no whistle was blown.

“I think he did the right thing,” Holtby said. “I thought it was absurd he got penalized for it. You get hit in the head as a goalie, you can’t skate to the bench for a line change. You’re seeing stars, you can’t see the puck, you have no other option. It was the wrong call and I felt bad for him.”

Prior to taking the penalty, Lundqvist injured his neck in a collision with teammate Ryan McDonagh. He will not be in the Rangers’ lineup tonight against the Capitals at Verizon Center. Backup Antti Raanta is expected get the call in his place.

Holtby said Lundqvist was trying to get the officials’ attention before knocking the net over. He returned to the Rangers net to complete the second period and did not return for the third because of neck spasms.

“I don’t think he should be (criticized) one bit,” Holtby said. “You’ve got to look at our position for what it is. We get hit in the head a lot and we don’t have the protective helmets for getting hit like that. It jars your head around.

“Most people know that when you get hit like that you don’t really feel it until a few seconds after. His first instinct was to get back in the play so he couldn’t really stay down. You can’t go for a line change so you’ve got to get help in different areas.”

Such a whiney little bitch, wears more cheater pads than any goalie in the league, dives and flops more than any other goalie when players get near him in the blue paint, gets run into by his OWN player and wants a penalty. Throws a hissy fit because he doesn't get his way, cries to the refs for the rest of the period, but doesn't come out of the game...

Pathetic. Fun game to be at though

When a goalie is injured they alert the ref and play stops, the ref missed/ignored it. He found a way to stop play.

Funny coming from a fan of the whiningest team in the league.

His real mistake was not having his helmet fall off. That would have blown the play dead.

I've got a general league complaint, curious if you guys have noticed it.

I've seen a few embellishment calls on near high sticks, no actual contact, just a stick coming within 6" of someone's face. The reactions aren't the whole hand to the face like you've been hit, they are IMO normal human reaction when an object quickly comes in close range of your face.

They literally are calling "two for flinching" and that's ridiculous. I hate diving but jerking your head away when you're about to take a stick to face should never be called embellishment.

Seems to me to be natural to react to a dangerous object near the face. I get it if the guy flinches and lands on his a$$ sure, but if he just moves to avoid contact? bs.

Correct, what he did was a penalty, all he had to do was remove his mask to stop play, and he's savvy enough to know that. He just threw a temper tantrum instead

Well whether it's a penalty or not is in the refs discretion, it's not an automatic 2 minutes like a puck over the glass in the defensive zone. The refs probably should have recognized the goalie was injured and blown it dead.

That's another pet peeve of mine with the rule book. I hate when a 2 minute penalty is called for deflecting a puck over the boards, that rule should be, "if a player shoots the puck from the ice over the glass, a 2 minute delay of game penalty should be assessed."

Agree completely. If it is clearly accidental I don't like it being a penalty.

Zac Rinaldo is currently serving a 5 game NHL suspension. Now he is also serving an indefinite suspension in the AHL.

Is there another league we can move him to so he can complete the Zac Rinaldo hat trick and be suspended from 3 leagues at the same time?

Agreed, but there's no need to be a primadonna and flip the fucking net

Agreed, our broadcasters were talking about this last week, since when did a deflection become a penalty? The rule is if the player shoots the puck over the glass, I never thought that deflecting it was even included until this year.

The deflections were always a penalty since the delay of game rule was put in. obviously there are some guys talented enough to pick a puck out of the air and tip it into the stands but mostly it's accidental and the real delay of game is caused by the refs trying to decide if it's a penalty.

In terms of defining a shot, if a player deflects the puck into the goal, it's credited as a shot on goal in the stats
