so after the Oilers had a magnificent win last night.. no wait, that's not right.

so after the Oilers got destroyed 4-1 last night (surprised it wasn't 43-1, to be honest), the coach had enough. And called the team out. Some players in particular, without naming names. Said they're all a bunch of giver-uppers and they should be embarrassed of their performance last night

Ended up saying "maybe we get rid of some players. maybe." and made reference to "maybe" something happening in the next ten days

The hammer's gonna drop. Minor moves for now. Justin Schultz is a bum. He's gone for sure. The big moves will happen when the draft comes. Some of the "core" guys (aka previous 1st round picks) will be sent on their way. Yay!! Change!!

I read online that "Jultz"-ing is an actual term when someone on the blueline does something boneheaded.

So, Todd is at his wits end...ouch. It's probably clear that what he has to work with is not NHL-material...? Or is the culture so bad and deep-rooted, it's beyond fixing...?

Let's see what Edmonton does...maybe Shirelli will help his Coach. Or not...since Edmonton wants another #1 overall.

I think it's both. I mean, we never hear what happens in the locker room, but there have always been rumors of it being a toxic place, due to a few players. No idea who. No idea how bad. One could only speculate.

Getting another #1 is completely useless. It literally won't change anything. If anything, it might make things even worse. Bringing another child in won't fix anything, and if the last five years have been any indication, they need to try something new. Chiarelli was even talking about trades happening, but he said nothing major until draft season. Makes sense. Big moves rarely happen now.

Yeah, I doubt a huge trade of one of the Oilers' "core" will happen...the lovely cap prevents that from happening.

While there are a litany of issues from my observations of the team, I think the true number 1 issue is still the blueline. Edmonton does NOT have a bonafide #1 defenseman. Edmonton should kick themselves for letting Seth Jones go. While Jones is not a #1 yet, he has the talent and clear makings of a future #1 pairing D-man...I dunno. I know elite blueliners do not grow on trees but Edmonton needs to ask themselves...if Carolina is playing a bunch of kids too, how is it that they aren't in the bidding for a #1 pick this summer? What about the Yotes? What are they doing differently? Well, again...you can see that in Arizona, there's OEL...and in Carolina...Faulk and Hanafin...

Defense defense defense.

This bruins/pens game has a real playoff feel to it.

Not because of the intensity though, it's because a damp sheet of newspaper taped over the goal mouth would have a better gaa then Fluery.

Hawks are going all-in again...get Ladd from the Jets.

Blackhawks acquire Andrew Ladd in trade with Jets - Chicago Tribune

I typically don't hype deadline deals...but, I loved Ladd as a Hawk and of all the departures, missed him the most...love to see him back in a Chicago jersey. He brings size, heart, toughness, leadership, and some goal-scoring back. Probably will line up with Hossa and Serious.

So, the earth-shaking moves that need to fix Edmonton starts with um...Larsen going to the Nucks for a 5th...?

Good job, Oilers!

Hawks add more depth by getting Weise and Fleischmann from the Habs for Danault and a pick.

Ehrhoff also was picked up for Scuderi.

Yow...Cup or bust, I guess.

Just goes to show that edmonton players are fucking worthless. What, were you expecting something better?

At least Chiarelli is dumping the shit players. We wouldn't get anything for him, or a bunch of others anyway. Fuck, that 5th will likely just spend his career in the minors, so no biggie.

I'd imagine the only person who'll be hurting by the start of next season is the owner, with a few million less in his wallet. But hey, he now has shit, or, he can pony up, dump the shit and start building something sensible.

Fuck, MacTavish said that Justin Schultz would be Norris winner in his first year we had to pay to get rid of him today. That bum made 3.9M this year and he's fucking useless. Good riddance!

I dunno if the Pens can fix Jultz but, man...that's one messed-up player. Pretty much a pariah in Edmonton, right? I think Edmonton is fortunate to get a 3rd for him.

Purcell and Nilsson also got shipped out.

Yeah...well, the window for this team is only so big, right? May as well go for it everytime. I like their approach.

Getting Panarin (who could be considered a "prospect") essentially allowed the Hawks to give up some picks and other prospects I guess. You always wonder if too much of the future is mortgaged but if you don't go all-in, why bother?

We'll see...need health, luck, and a bit of everything to with the Cup. And there are 15 other teams in the playoffs who have something to say about it.

For me, I am interested to see if Gonchar can salvage Schultz in Pittsburgh after he's become an absolute basketcase in Edmonton...

Relatively quiet trade deadline...but, I guess many of the big trades like Dion and Ladd were done before today. So...

Boedker goes to Avs as does Gelinas. Stars get a shot-blocking monster in Russell...Versteeg takes his rapping ways to LA. Otherwise, a generally "quiet" deadline day.

St. Louis didn't do too much. And neither did the Kings. But, Deano is smarter than everyone in the universe...so, getting Versteeg is the one move that'll get them that dynasty.

I am sad the Avs got rid of Tanguay for Boedker only from the stand point of I wanted to see he retire with the Avs. He has become pretty useless though for the most part this season. The decline from last season to this season has been huge.

Gotta say I'm a bit disappointed that Loui Erikson is still a bruin. I like him, he's been a great player this year and finally living up to what he was supposed to be when they got him.

But....

I don't think they can afford him long term so they either, handcuff the team with a 5 year 6 million contract or they lose him as a free agent this summer and get nothing. Unless Sweeney gets him on a 3-4 year cap friendly deal because Loui wants to stay here, Sweeney fucked this up.

Should'a traded him for a top prospect and a first round pick. McDavid and next years number 1 overall would have worked, apparently Sweeney lost Chiarelli's digits

Great time at the game last night, Fleury with his 5th shutout of the year, and Hornqvist with his first career hat trick.

I'm guessing you haven watched him play much. He makes the worst rookie mistakes, time and again, and he truly sucks balls. At least here, he did. If he becomes fantastic, so be it, but he didn't even have a stand out moment here in all the years we had him.

They beat buffalo two nights ago

2-1 was the score. It was actually a fast paced game with a lot of shooting. Fun to watch. The best was the ending though- it came down to Eichel vs McDavid, and happily McDavid won

They beat the islanders the game before.
