I've never been to Congressional, no.
The President's Cup is in my town this year, Dublin OH, at Muirfield Village. Which I have played many times.![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
If you're coming to town let me know, I'll buy ya a beer!

So I am going to go golfing again soon and if I really like it I am considering getting a set for myself (I have been using a friend's).
I know you can buy sets as-is but also know places like golfsmith can customize clubs for you based on your body and swing etc. I'm not looking for super awesome clubs, but also figure I shouldn't get bottom of the line clubs either so something good that I can just go out and have fun with every now and then. Any idea how much a set like that would cost?

If you're not really going to get into it I wouldn't really suggest getting fitted. You could go the iron set route then just buy driver, wood, and putter separate.
Good entry level set of irons.

For what you're describing (few times a year for fun) I think this is all you need.

I play Adams hybrids and irons. Love them. Burner driver and 3 wood. Adams 56 degree and a Ping putter.

I actually went back to my original set I grew up with, 1963 Burke blades. The infamous Titleist blades were modeled after this set. Very small, very unforgiving. But I can work them like a pro. I put some stiff true tempers on and some GP cords. Love em!
And I still use my old first generation Taylor Made burner 5 wood, 3 wood, and driver (8*). I can't stand all the new designs out now. Here, swing this 900cc boat of a driver. Never made sense to me.
Cleveland wedges though. Fairly new.
Still have Tigers original putter, the Scotty Cameron "anser2" remake.

Oh yea there was a point to that post.
Find something that works for you. Screw all the technical stuff, the brands, the fitting. Just find what feels right.
You certainly don't have to drop a lot of money on equipment to do well in golf.

Every set of clubs for me has been hand me down sets from my dad. This last set is great, because he had grip extensions on these clubs and they work way better for me. My old set the grips were too short and I had issues swinging

INSANE!
An 8 shot lead won't be overcome unless he does it to himself.

Unless I need to really launch it, or I find myself over-rotating my hips that day, I pretty much always hit my 3 off the tee. I'm just much more consistent with it.
I play with older pro oriented clubs though. My driver is like 180cc. If I dropped the coin on one of those new ridiculously huge 500cc drivers I'm sure I would play it off the tee every time.
I just can't bring myself to do it though. It feels so...unnatural.
Hah, scrolled up, I made the same post a year ago. Lol. #consistent

Got a private golf lesson last week. Best $100 I spent on the game. He changed my swing path and I am hitting consistently straighter with a slight fade (natural ball flight). Shot +1 at a local par-3 course last weekend, so it paid dividends.

Officially the strangest round ever... hit a wedge from 136 with in 2 feet. Next hole was a 138 yard par 3 where I hit behind the hole, it spun back and clanked off the pin. Next par 3 I hit one within 4 feet.
I have just come to terms with I will never have a hole in one. There is way to much random luck involved.
